Jessalyn - Woods - Floyd Jess put some more kindling on the fire. In the few weeks since the raid both she and Floyd and managed to make a camp in the woods that was relatively safe and scavenged a few things from the nearby city. Now Jess had a pot on the fire that was boiling water. They needed to boil their water to make it safe to drink, that was what Floyd said and since he was the most experienced at camping and the outdoors she listened to him. Jess rubbed her stomach, a small smile on her lips. Floyd had really been wonderful. He was like a bear, gruff at times but really fluffy once you got close. He had stayed with her, keeping her safe and caring for her. Sometimes, when she thought about it, they were like a married couple. That thought made her cheeks take on a rosy hue and made her eyes bright. Now that she felt safe, she was able to take on what many called 'the glow' associated with pregnant women. There were still times when she was afraid, when she had nightmares about Bruce and about her short time in the catacombs with Tyler, about Lynn and what might have happened to her. But Floyd was always there when she woke, so she felt safe enough to go back to sleep. He still seemed uncomfortable when she touched him at times, but she was getting more and more comfortable with giving him hugs and holding his hand. Jess got up slowly, pressing a hand to her lower back to relive some of the pressure. Floyd had gone off searching for supplies. At least that's what she thought he'd done. He had just said he would be back soon and 'soon' with Floyd could mean 5 minutes or 2 hours. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Katie - Woods - Lauren, Bull Katie hadn't spoken much in the weeks since the raid. The little girl had become very quiet, only speaking when spoken to and only answering with short usually one word answers. Her eyes were red a lot and there were dark circles under her eyes. She acted scared of Bull but clung to Lauren when things scared her. The reason was obvious to all. She really missed her daddy. Subconsciously she still felt it was somehow her fault. She had been naughty, sneaking out of her room when daddy told her not to, spying on the men, being annoying to them because it was fun. She had prayed every night, telling God that if he would just bring her daddy back she would be good forever. Lauren tried to tell her that it wasn't her fault, but even though she nodded the child didn't believe her. Every time she woke up crying at night Lauren was there to hold her until she went back to sleep, but Katie had overheard Lauren and Bull talking while she was asleep. Bull was getting annoyed with having her around. She was too much trouble, too noisy, cried too much. Katie felt like a burden to everyone. She really wanted her daddy back... Tears pricked her eyes and fell silently down her cheeks.
