I've held a pretty wide array of jobs (financing travels on the spot leaves you with few options) and generally you only see people with visible tattoos in places people don't see you. Like factory-work (not the most appealing career-wise.) Then again... Finding work on plantations is something having a tattoo hinders with ('cause "them damn hippies ain't comin' on my farm!") and even call-centers ain't to keen on it either.

Socially, I don't think it moves fast enough in that regard. Unless you manage to score a job in a place where everyone has the same kinda mindsets or customers care less, like a youth hostel or tattoo parlour. It's pretty tricky. To compare, I've definetely found a rather big difference between applying when I had dreadlocks and after I cut them off. It's the first thing people look for, see. The moment you walk in, they've already judged you. Which I agree is pretty silly and close-minded, but as it turns out a lot of people are.
