Interesting, the Synch have their own highly religious secretive order as well, though they are more or less regarding as complete nutters. I don't exactly see why it /has/ to be a hostile meeting, but it is what it is. If you got ideas for a plot-line between the Synch and the Empire, then go ahead and run them by me. I'm all ears.
