The Great Palace of Eskanadra: The glorious palace of the royal family, a testament of the glory and power enjoyed by the Basileus. Over the many years the palace has grown in size, each Basileus who has reigned choosing to add more to the already great building, each putting their mark and stamping the architecture of their reign into the very walls of the greatest palace in Eskanadra, to forever be seen and admired by all who come after them through the ages. This building is at the very centre of the Eskanadran capital, and all who see it know where true authority lies while those within it know without doubt that theirs is the power and theirs the authority. Here, the heir is brought up and tutored in everything possible, here the advisors and wise men dwell to teach and advise, here the Basileus sits on his mighty Throne of Words and makes the great decisions for the nation, here anyone can come and bow down before the great one and request of him anything. It is the centre of glory and power not only in the capital, but in all of Eskanadra, and its beauty and magnificence reflects this high and great purpose. The Throne Room of Eskanadra and the Throne of Words The Throne Room of Eskanadra is a magnificent work of architecture mixed with the authority of being the literal seat of power of the Basileus. Constructed with the best materials and resources and renovated over the years as Eskanadran wealth grew, it is a monument of Eskanadran architecture and perhaps the most beautiful construction in the land. Legendary for its beauty, the Throne Room also holds within it the Throne of Words, said to be the gift of the almighty One to the faithful monarchs of old. An ancient relic, he who sits upon it has the divine right to rule and must be obeyed, for the mighty One himself has seated him upon it.
Detailed Description: Beautifully carved great mahogany doors with the most intricate designs and carvings are the entrance to the Throne Room of Eskanadra. The elegant red wood with the many designs ranging from spiralling tendrils, fluttering leaves, floating clouds, open books, armoured knights, bearded scholars, beautiful ladies and much more, is further beautified by the gold and silver which layers it, flowing with the intricate carvings and designs, enhancing them. Three large gems are also embedded deeply into each of the great doors, rich red diamonds, rarest of the rare. To each side of the great doors stand two mighty limestone sculptures of eagle-like gargoyles, terrific guardians of the great room. To be found standing by the stone guardians are usually two heavily armoured guards in full plate armour wielding powerful halberds. The other side of the double doors is very similar, with the beautiful carvings, gold and silver layers and red diamonds. When they open, the mighty doors reveal what lies beyond, though one may be slightly blinded by the light of the sun shining through the seven huge jade and quartz windows at the very back of the great Throne Room. Upon further inspection, the windows which stretch from floor to ceiling and end with a semi-circular domed top, also have intricate markings and carvings in them, and along with the clear quartz and green jade is glass of many colours, from red, blue, emerald and yellow, all with weaving, meandering shapes and patterns much like the great doors. Once the wonder of the windows is momentary put to the side, one can take in the floor, made of a mixture of marble, granite and basalt, all carved up and decorated with gold rivers and silver streams, at some points the floor breaks up into brilliant mosaics which slowly transforms into larger tiles and so on, weaving a huge, incomprehensible tale of beauty, intensity and glory. As a finishing touch, a thick layer of glass lies upon the stone to prevent it from being damaged or become weathered. Great pillars from the ground to the ceiling lie parallel to each other, seven on each side travelling all the way from one end of the great room, near the great doors, to the other end, where the Throne of Words and the breath-taking windows are. Each parallel pair of pillars have their own, unique carvings, sophisticated patterns which travel the length of the great things, lined with silver and gold as well as precious gems, faces of mythical beasts only heard about in tall tales from foreign lands, words of wisdom, thrilling patterns and so on. The ceiling itself is a wonder of architecture, with complicated arches, all beautifully carved and decorated with precious metals and stones, stretching across the huge ceiling, all coming together to form a huge dome at the very centre, home to stunning mosaics of glass and stone as well as magnificent paintings. The very centre of the dome is open in a small circle which is closed off from the skies by a window of quartz and jade and glass, allowing the refracted light of the sun to break through, giving the entire dome an almost divine appearance, as if the One Himself blesses it with His radiance. Chandeliers of different sizes and shapes hang down, all with the same exquisite designs and bewitching colours so hallmark of the place. Around the Throne Room are many grand statues made of jade or quartz or limestone or marble or granite or basalt, and some are even a mixture of some or all. Some of them of handsome young men, others of alluring women and more which were abstract or of legendary creatures like dragons and gargoyles and griffins, and a good few were of open books, some with humans and other creatures leaping out, some were held up to the skies by enthralled bearded men, light flooding out of them. Many of the sculptures were painted and had gold or silver linings, and others were left in their original colours. At the end of the great Room, in an elevated place atop some carved marble stairs, flanked by two grim statues; armoured men holding onto the hilts of their swords with their points to the ground and crowns on their heads, is the legendary Throne of Words. Now, the beauty of that cannot be described, for it has to be seen by the naked eye to be understood, and even once seen, its beauty is beyond human comprehension, indeed, that beauty is in itself proof that it was created by the mighty One Himself, for no human sculptor could ever hope to make even half an armrest of that holy Throne, and that is a challenge to all who call themselves a sculptor!
The Grand Institution of Higher Education and Learning of Crimsamara: Whereas there are many IHEL's in the capital and all over Eskanadra, none are more prestigious than the very first which was built. Where the Great Palace is the centre of all power and authority, the Grand IHEL of Crimsamara is centre of the greatest knowledge and academic excellence, drawing the greatest minds and thinkers, writers and debaters. None within Eskanadra - and perhaps even none without it - has not heard of this mighty institution of knowledge and enlightenment. Those who graduate and teach here are indeed privileged and are honoured and respected enormously. Crimsamarian Guardian Head Quarters : This is where the Guardians all over Eskanadra turn to when they need commands and orders, it is the centre of one of the vastest organisations in the nation, arguably encompassing the entire population. Of course, there are Guardian HQ's all over Eskanadra, but the one in the capital is the largest one which gathers and reads through quarterly reports and commissions investigations into the very heavy, A-class criminal cases. It is a beacon of justice, order and security to citizens and a promise of a ravaging wrathful fury to any who dare disobey the law. Barrack of the Great and Mighty of Eskanadra: One of the largest military barracks in the realm and one of the biggest and most well-fortified of the ten Barrack-Forts of Eskanadra, it is also one of three Barrack-Forts located in a city and the largest of the three, the other two being in Irenor and Tarsusin. It houses the First and Second Companies of the First Legion of Eskanadra while simultaneously training fresh recruits. This is where the royals themselves are trained and learn the art of war and combat. This great barrack is in itself a fortress, with walls, towers and even a good supply of food within, as well as the necessary equipment and weapons for training. There are two other barracks in the capital, though not quite as large, and all over Eskanadra barracks are to be found in most relatively large towns. This however, is where the elite are trained, where the great are made, where heroes are taught how to be heroes, and most importantly, where men with iron hearts learn to wield iron in their hands to smite all who dare trespass on their loved and fertile lands. The Magnificent Library of the Fertile Earth: The Magnificent Library was built during the reign of Aulus II for two main reasons. The first was the fact that all kinds of literature were being published all over Eskanadra but they were not all available to readers, thus having a library to which a copy of every published piece of literature written anywhere must be sent is a fantastic thing and enables the compilation of Eskanadran literary heritage as well as insuring that no great writings are lost. The second reason was the fact that the exporting of surplus agricultural produce and all things made from such produce had created such a great amount of revenue that a great enterprise was most certainly needed, both to empty the coffers so that there is enough space for the money coming in and to glorify and thank the One God for His gift of a fertile and rich land which feeds without holding and gives without restraint to those who love and use it. It is indeed a great library and all academics as well as students use it for research purposes. Oppius II has had to expand it due to the huge volume of books flowing in causing there to be a general lack of space. The School of Tactics and Strategy: The School of Tactics and Strategy is perhaps the first true institute for educating people which was ever built in Eskanadra, during the reign of Aulus I. This building, as the name suggests, was dedicated solely to teaching prospective leaders - i.e the royals - the art of war. However, what's strange is that while this was its initial purpose, the rich of Eskanadra quickly over-rode Aulus's desires, sending their children to the School. From it came tacticians and strategists of relatively high skill, though due to the limited resources of the time, they were not the best. Today this building is dedicated purely to the mental enhancement of Generals and military leaders rather than philosophers who entered only to debate and develop ideas but not put them to the test as was the case back when it was constructed. With the improvement in education, the School also improved, and it was in fact what inspired the construction of The Grand Institution of Higher Education and Learning of Crimsamara in the reign of Oppius I. The military men who graduate from this School are amongst the finest, their education in the practical and theoretical strategies and tactics are excellent, though the school does tend to second The Grand Institution of Higher Education and Learning of Crimsamara in theoretical part. Practically however, nowhere in Eskanadra has the quality which the School does. The Twin Civil Courts: This great Twin Court serves as the place where people from all over Eskanadra come to sort out civil problems such as issues regarding problems over pay or shares of profit or problems between spouses amongst other things. The Twin Civil Courts use the Second and Third books of the Law, The Book of Religion in Law and The Book of Civil Justice and the Predicaments of the People as these deal with the law from a religious perspective (the former) and the law from a civil perspective (the latter.) Judges are absolutely just, having been chosen directly by the Basileus for their piety, wisdom and justness. No type of corruption can infiltrate this nigh on sacred place. The Twin Criminal Courts: This great Twin Court serves as the place where criminals from all over Eskanadra are brought before the court, usually either by civilians or Guardians, and it is here where justice is dealt. Issues such as thievery, murder, prostitution and trafficking of prostitutes are brought to these courts amongst other things. The Twin Ccriminal Courts use the First and Second books of the Law, The Book of Criminals and Criminality and The Book of Religion in Law as these deal with the law from a religious perspective (the latter) and the law from a criminal perspective (the former.) Judges are absolutely just, having been chosen directly by the Basileus for their piety, wisdom and justness. No type of corruption can infiltrate this nigh on sacred place. City of Irenor: The City of Irenor is the trading centre of Eskanadra. Located in the West of Eskanadra, by the sea, it is where all trading ships come and go. It is also where the great military ships are constructed, from the smallest to the largest. First founded during Aulus I's rule, it immediately revealed its strategic significance as merchants flooded to it by sea, after the spices and other goods which Eskanadra offered. Over the years, the city has grown, becoming the second largest city in the beginning of Aulus II's rule. In fact, if merchants continue investing in it as they have been, it will soon become larger than even the capital. It has been argued that the August IHEL of Irenor gives a better education than that of Crimsamara, and the competition between these two great institutions has been going on for many years, with the Exalted IHEL of Tarsusin lagging just slightly behind at third place. However, with the Magnificent Library being in the capital, it is hardly a shock that the Grand IHEL located there is still in first place. Construction on a great library of their own has been underway in Irenor for a good few years now and is approaching completion. While never a great problem, the presence of pirates has always been a bit of a pain for Irenor, and though there have never been any successful raids on the city itself, there has been a rising number of trade ships with valuable goods coming to and leaving Irenor going missing. August IHEL of Irenor: A truly august Institution, the IHEL of Irenor is arguably the best IHEL in all of Eskanadra with a quality of scholars unlike any others, their mentality, attitude and ability is starkly different - in a good way - than those of the scholars in Tarsusin and Crimsamara. Perhaps it is due to the fact that Irenor is a coastal city and therefore attracts many more people from other nations. Whatever the reason, there are no doubts about the position of the August IHEL as one of the very best in Eskanadra, and perhaps even the world, any who graduate from here can expect a depth and breadth of education which is just stunning. However, the difficulty of passing a degree at the August IHEL is the stuff o legend, meaning that those who do end up graduating are the best of the best, the creme de la creme and their prestige is high and respect for them even more. August Barrack-Fort of Irenor: The August Barrack-Fort is an amazing complex of towers, walls and endless drilling courtyards. It looks more like a castle than a barrack, but behind those high walls and towers lie courtyards for archery, horsemanship, sword fighting, siege engineering and more. Like every one of the ten Barrack-Forts, it has its own granaries and can hold out for a very long time were Irenor to fall. It houses the Third and Fourth Companies of the First Legion of Eskanadra and simultaneously trains fresh recruits. City of Tarsusin: Local capital of the South, Tarsusin is the oldest city in Eskanadra and the old capital of what was once the fief from which Aulus I came. This is a sprawling metropolis which grew over the ages, completely unplanned and chaotic, its architecture varying hugely depending on where you go in it. Until the reign of Aulus II, this was in fact the second largest city in Eskanadra after Crimsamara. During Aulus II's reign, it became third when the great trading city of Irenor grew dramatically. Nevertheless, Tarsusin, as the oldest city in the realm, holds much authority and respect and all who dwell within it can expect some of the best services and goods in the nation, including access to the excellent Exalted IHEL of Tarsusin, one of the top Institutions in all of Eskanadra. Exalted IHEL of Tarsusin: The second oldest IHEL in all of Eskanadra and currently one of the top three, constantly competing with the August IHEL and the Grand IHEL. As an Institution, its education is of the highest quality and there is nothing which can be studied in Eskanadra that you cannot study here. Like the Grand IHEL, it has scholars in every field and is open to those who seek knowledge and wisdom. This IHEL is also home to one of the largest - if not the very largest - compilation of books at any single IHEL. Indeed, their library dwarfs both those of the Grand and August IHEL's combined, which is saying something. While it does not make up for not having something like the Magnificent Library, it does go quite a way to doing so. A glorious Institution which all citizens of Tarsusin are proud to call theirs, the Exalted IHEL is indeed a mighty Institution, an example to all other IHEL's, which gifts its students with the greatest gift of all, the strongest power - the power of knowledge. Exalted Barrack-Fort of Tarsusin: Tarsusin has long been famous for its archaic fort where the seat of power of the original fief was. Over the centuries, this fort has grown in size and status and is now ranked as one of the best Barrack-Forts. While not necessarily being the largest, the quality of equipment and training here is on par with that at the Barrack of the Great and Mighty. A soldier who receives his training here is proud to proclaim it and all those who get through the grueling training receive a special signet ring with the coat of arms of the old fief. Like the other Barrack-Forts, the Exalted Barrack-Fort has been installed with granaries and can hold out should Tarsusin ever fall a very long time. It houses the First and Second Companies of the Second Legion of Eskanadra while simultaneously training fresh troops. Small City of Aveiro: Aveiro was originally a hamlet which Aulus I invested some money into. The increase in agricultural output caused many to build up homes and live here. Oppius I decided that rather than having a disorganised city sprout up, he would build up the then small town before it became too large to rebuild. Over the years, he invested money into it bit by it, knocking down and rebuilding homes in different locations and usually at a higher quality. By the end of his reign, it was a sprawling city which Aulus II contributed to. Like Calleruga, this has become a capital in its local area in the North, serving as a centre of authority and a place from where order can be maintained. Large Town of Calleruga: Calleruga was once a relatively large capital city, back in the times of the old Kingdom. It had been one of the greatest capitals, a monument of its fiefs power and prosperity. During the War of Dissension however, it was subject to much of 'the horrors' of the war, exchanging hands at various points. In fact, the Massacre of Calleruga was amongst the bloodiest and most shocking events of the war, in which most of the population and defending army which had been defeated were completely massacred and most of the city was burned down, leaving a mere husk of what the city had once been. Since the times of Aulus I, monarchs have been slowly nurturing this place, playing on its historical significance to encourage people to migrate there as the land around it is of extreme fertility. However, the stories of the 'Ghosts of Calleruga' which still circle around to this day but more so after the war dampened any will to go there. Now it is a huge town in Eastern Eskanadra, full of life and vitality, a local capital in its own right. The fact that it is situated in the heart of one of Eskanadra's largest farming estates, and is the biggest settlement around - even in neighbouring estates - gives it a huge strategic advantage. It is in many ways a centre of authority and culture in the East of Eskanadra. The Iron Fort: Located at the Eskanadro-Caliphate border, below the western Montasaar Mountain Range which acts as a great wall between Eskanadra and the Caliphate, this mighty Barrack-Fort is in many ways a completion of that natural wall formed by the mountains. It has stood steadfast and unyielding before the seemingly endless waves of the Caliphates forces. Since the times of Aulus I this fort has been of great significance and he expended valuable resources into ensuring that it was very well fortified. As Eskanadra grew richer, this fort also grew and officially became a Barrack-Fort during the reign of Aulus II. It was not just any Barrack-Fort however, since then it has been by far the largest Barrack-Fort in the realm, with the highest walls and largest storehouses and granaries. It is not just a great barrack which trains some of the best soldiers of Eskanadra, it is also a castle-fortress like none other - and it has to be to withstand the assaults of the Caliphate. It houses the Third and Fourth Companies of the Second Legion of Eskanadra while simultaneously training fresh troops. It is a deeply held truism among the people of Eskanadra that, "While the Iron Fort still stands tall, Never shall Eskanadra fall." and perhaps they are right... Long Leaf Fort: Located at the South Western coast of Eskanadra, just off the small of island of Long Leaf from which it derives its name. After the Iron Fort and the Barrack of the Great and Mighty, this is the largest Barrack-Fort in Eskanadra. Together, they make the group of three Barrack-Forts known as the Stronghold, the three largest and most well-fortified of the Barrack-Forts. Like all other Barrack-Forts, Long Leaf Fort trains fresh recruits and houses two of Eskanadra's Companies, the First and Second Companies of the Third Legion of Eskanadra. The storehouses and granaries here are also extremely large and it can supply expeditions as well as itself for a long time should it come under siege. It is well known that Long Leaf Fort acts as the coastal defence against the Caliphate, crushing any landing parties before they have had time to cause chaos and sending their ships up to Irenor to be recycled into either smaller fishing vessels or scrapped and used for other purposes. The Montasaar Barrack-Fort: At the Eskanadra-Imryk border in Northern Eskanadra, between the Montasaar Mountain Range and the Great Forest lies this great Barrack-Fort. While a giant when compared with normal forts it only ranks as the sixth largest of the ten Barrack-Forts, lagging behind the Stronghold as well as the Barrack-Forts of Irenor and Tarsusin. This Barrack-Fort trains fresh recruits while simultaneously housing the Third and Fourth Companies of the Third Legion of Eskanadra. Its granaries are large and store ample foodstuff and its storehouses have much equipment. This is a fort built to stand against any assault, and it intends to do just that. One Rock Fort: This mighty fortress was constructed in the early days of Oppius I who had been infatuated with a particular idea he had read in an architecture book: the idea of carving entire buildings, if not cities, out of rock rather than by building rock on rock. When he found this great boulder which defiantly stood on a cliff on the South Eastern Coast of Eskanadra (where the small black dot is,) he could not help but see in it the possibility for a great fortress. Gathering all the expert artisans, architects, artist and anyone else of knowledge on the matter in the land, he had them set about planning and carving a castle out of the enormous boulder. Thus, it was done, and over the decades its size made it a possible candidate for being a Barrack-Fort until it was elevated to that in the reign of Aulus II. Since then it has housed the First and Second Companies of the Fourth Legion of Eskanadra and has trained hardened soldiers of great stamina, strength and endurance. Its granaries and storehouses are not as big as other Barrack-Forts, but the boulder it was carved from was exceptionally hard and the thickness of its walls as well as its general architecture makes it of extreme hardness. It is said that not even canon fire could penetrate its five metre thick, extraordinarily hard walls, though whether this is true remains to be seen... Deepwood Fort: Deepwood Fort is located in the Eastern Forest all the way in the North East of Eskanadra, within the northern part of the forest, near the Eskanadra-Confederate-Stormbreach tri-border. The exact location of this fort is not known to anyone other than those who work and train there and the most senior figure in the military - the Imperator. Not even the Basileus knows its location. Shrouded in mystery, it is well known that the Third and Fourth Companies of the Fourth Legion are housed here. Another unique thing about this fort is that those who train here are not sent to other forts once they finish but join the Third or Fourth Companies of the Fourth Legion and remain at the fort. Rarely deployed or even seen, these two Companies as well as the fort are the closed book of Eskanadran society, none know of them and none who do speak of it. Of course, with such great secrecy come even greater rumours, myths have risen over the years of how the fort was home to divine soldiers of the One, men blessed with powers beyond human comprehension, or even more daring, the idea that the fort is a top secret research facility for scholars who delve into things better not discussed by civil society, creating creatures like none which have ever graced the surface of the world. But these are all myths and rumours, nothing to worry ones mind about... Mount-Gate Fort: Mount-Gate Fort stands at the river on the Northern Eskanadro-Confederacy Border, a fort which stands defiant against the mountains and acts as both a border watch-tower and a fortress to keep any...unwanted visitors out. A relatively small Barrack-Fort, it is the smallest of the ten, and that is nothing to be ashamed of, being the smallest of a group of giant fortresses just means you are another giant fort. Mount-Gate Fort does not have many courtyards for drills within it and most training is actually done on the river or in the small woods at the banks of the river. Like other Barrack-Forts, it has large granaries and trains fresh recruits and would be able to hold out for a long time in case of a siege. Being in the middle of the relatively deep river also offers a natural defence, meaning that even if the walls were to be breached it would still be very difficult to cross the fast-flowing river and battle past the staunch defenders. Perhaps one of the most strategically placed Barrack-Forts. It house the First and Second Companies of the Fifth Legion of Eskanadra. River Fort: Located relatively deep within Eskanadran territory, this fort is more like a small town, what with its wooden walls and huts as living quarters for trainees and soldiers. It is, however, very spacious and various things can be done here. For example, this is the only Barrack-Fort which can construct its own artillery and the soldiers trained here are usually the best able to use siege equipment and other forms of artillery. The general community spirit does mean that discipline is quite lax, but it remains a respectable Barrack-Fort with granaries and storehouses. It is located just North East of the centre of Eskanadra where Crimsamara - where the big black dot on the river on the map is. The Third and Fourth Companies of the Fifth Legion of Eskanadra are housed here.
