Well, at first there won't be any actualy "nations" excepts for the eastern empire and the caliphate. People would start with a tribe and small plot of land around their tribes main camp. Of course you would expand your borders and then when your land is big enough, you become a proper nation. 
I'm just going to give this thread another day before I start the OCC/CS thread.
