It was perhaps his only saving grace with the poverty-level upbringing he had by a single mother. He was put into any and all sports that were available in the area, but even that wasn't enough for the youth. He was only sixteen years old when he first enlisted in the United States Army, having lied about his age rather convincingly. By the time the government caught onto what he had done, he had risen so far up in ranks and had proven himself a hundred times over, that they simply couldn't find it in themselves to send him back home - he was far too valuable a soldier. It was just a few years later that he met Captain Adeline Kane, who was tasked with training young soldiers in new fighting techniques, readying them for the upcoming war in Vietnam. Captain Kane was immediately impressed by Slade's abilities and how quickly he adapted to modern conventions of warfare. Anything she threw at him, he took head-on and conquered it. Any gun, any blade, any explosive weapon - Slade made it his bitch, proving that anyone could learn anything, no matter the circumstance. Captain Kane almost immediately fell in love with him, or more so the realization that he was, without a doubt, the most able-bodied combatant she had ever encountered - maybe even anyone in the entire Army had encountered. She offered to privately train Slade, taking on a subject that she knew he hadn't mastered yet - Guerrilla Warfare. IN less than a year, Slade had even this technique mastered, and was eagerly awaiting to be taught more, but with nothing left to teach him, he was instead promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Six months later, and he and Captain Kane were married and became pregnant with their first child - Grant. Slade continued on active duty while Adeline stayed home to raise their son. Needing the extra cash, Slade volunteered himself for an extremely vague position within the army that Slade later knew as the Australian Secret Intelligence Service/ASIS unit. He left the comfortable confines of his Army life and gave his all to ASIS, who immediately put him to work - Mercenary work - Australian Special Intelligence Service. At first, Slade found a lot wrong with hunting down and killing people like animals, but after much persuasion and manipulation, Slade learned to cope with it. After only just a few months, a new mission was given to Slade that put him on a plane to Japan, however the aircraft was shot down into the ocean. By some miracle, Slade wound up on an island, Lian Yu, that was crawling with the Japanese and a special military service that had their own contract to fulfill - one of Slade's comrades. Slade never did figure out what it was that they wanted his team for. Only he and three others survived the attack and the other two eventually died - one to the elements of the island, and the other to being captured, tortured for information, and then killed. Slade spent the next few years in hiding, plotting and planning his escape until finally, after three more years and after a really bad storm, a small group of poor bastards washed ashore, looking to him for help. Though they were far from heroes, Slade did what he could with the small group, though in the end, only he and one other were left alive to retell the tale of their escape - a rich boy by the name of Oliver Queen. There was a single instance on that island that changed Slade's life forever, however. After a failed attack attempt for the only working ship on the island, Slade was mortally wounded and destined to die, however Oliver refused to give in, and left Slade to explore the old ruins of a Japanese ship that had been long forgotten about until that moment. Oliver then discovered that the entire reason the island was crawling with Japanese and a rogue army had been found. A briefcase - filled with vials of a neon green liquid the Japanese called the Mirakuru. It was a rumored concoction; an experimental drug that was meant to turn ordinary men into super soldiers. However, Oliver also found disfigured skeletons amongst the ruined Japanese ship, and realized that the Mirakuru also had the ability to kill those it was used on. Not having much of an option, Oliver returned to Slade, destroying every other vial except the one. He told Slade that the Mirikuru had the ability to either kill him, or save him. Slade ordered him to do it - he was dead either way. The serum was injected, and for a few hours, Slade was dead. Giving up on his leader, Oliver left to continue Slade's plan of escape. However, Slade's body slowly took to the formula, and by some unspoken means, was brought back, stronger, smarter, quicker - he had become a super soldier. The serum warped his mind, however, and went on a berserker rampage on the Japanese. Oliver was the only one that was able to calm him down enough before he found himself amongst the other bodies, and the two were able to escape. Once back home, after years of being assumed dead, Slade came to the realization that not only was Grant 4 years old, but Adeline had become pregnant with another before his departure and had given birth, naming him Joseph after Slade's own middle name. Taking a much needed break from his special force team, Slade then became incredibly invested in his two sons, teaching them the ways of combat and the world, training them to become strong men of both body and mind. Unfortunately, what was left of the team Slade and Oliver had left behind on Lian Yu had managed to track him down. He was the only specimen to have ever successfully taken the Mirakuru drug and lived. But when Slade didn't want anything to do with them, and told them upfront, Slade was forced into yet again another situation that would change his life. The organized task force kidnapped his son, Joseph, and held him for ransom. With a bit of quick thinking, and adapting to his new super-human abilities, Slade managed to get his son back but not before they cut his throat enough to damage his vocal cords for the rest of his life. Furious, and deeming it Slade's fault, Adeline went at Slade in an angry rage and managed to cut out one of his eyes before demanding that he leave forever. With a heavy heart, and wounded pride, Slade left his wife and two sons who later grew up to hate him and even consider him their enemy. Slade tried to take some time off from his Mercenary life, wanting to reflect on his own life and see if he might be able to get his family back. However the Mirakuru inside of him kept him restless, and once more, Slade threw himself back into the Mercenary lifestyle. After a few years, he met a woman, Lillian Worth, through a search-and-rescue mission in Cambodia. After a very quick love affair, Lillian gave birth to their daughter who she named Rose. However, knowing Slade's background, Lillian kept Rose a secret from Slade, and raised Rose on her own. It wasn't until Rose was into her teen years when she had asked enough questions and gathered enough information to know that Slade Wilson was her father. She reached out to him immediately, but Slade ignored her, unable to withstand the knowledge that he had yet another child he had failed to raise the way he wanted. But after Lillian's death, and Rose's affiliation with his son Joseph in the Teen Titans, Slade finally stepped in and took in Rose, picking up where he had left off with his boys and trained her to become a deadly force that the Titans eventually found enough reason to kick her out for. Now, Slade and Rose rule the night - the perfect father and daughter mercenary team. That is, until one of Rose's slip-ups landed Slade in Belle Reve with a computerized microchip embedded into his neck... Powers/Abilities Slade possesses various enhanced abilities forced upon him by the Mirakuru serum which are recorded to exceed well beyond that of any average human. These abilities include the strength of ten men and heightened durability, stamina, speed, agility, sense and reflexes. In his strength, he has been able to lift at least five metric tons. His brain is now unlocked to him to be able to use ninety percent of it where as a normal human can only access about twenty percent, making him a tactical genius adept at turning opponents' own abilities against them. This is only highlighted by his years of service in the Army and Australian Special Forces. On the subject of his brain, Slade possesses genius level intellect and is often displayed as a calm yet ruthless mastermind when it comes to his personal exploits and scheming the downfall of his enemies. He first studies his adversary to look for their weak points and vulnerabilities (even if it means facing them blind and losing to gain the information) and then strikes viciously with devastating efficiency. Slade also has a powerful regenerative healing factor in his blood that enables him to heal from physical injury much faster than a normal person. However, it does have limitations, as he could not heal his missing eye and though it has never been tested, he would be willing to bet that he would not be able to regenerate entire limbs. This healing factor enables him to recover from what would otherwise be fatal injuries, though recovering from such injuries renders him practically insane and near-animalistic for a short period of time during his administrations. He has even gone as far as giving Rose a false kryptonite eye, knowing fully well that it could poison her, but his lust for wanting Superman weakened clouded his fatherly judgement. Having been trained to the very limits in combat with weapons in the Army, Slade is also extremely skilled and formidable in hand-to-hand combat and marital arts. He has proved himself to be one of the best fighters in the United States and Australian Army and Special Forces and through his martial arts training, he took on boxing, karate, jujitsu and ninjutsu. On a side note, Slade is also very proficient in other languages, such as Russian, Japanese and Korean. Other Though he loves his kids more than anything, Slade has subconsciously distanced himself from them as his two sons want him dead and his daughter is considered more of an asset than family. Rose does, however, break through his "tough guy" walls once in a while and is able to get through to him as a father, but because of the Mirakuru, these moments are very few and far between... and he hates it.
