I think so - as I'm guessing that's what most people expect - but I hope to keep the location deliberately vague, as I'm not American nor have I been there, so I don't really know much about its geography. I'm fine with it being America though, if this suits your character better...(please don't get me to name a city though! I barely know the states!)
