As you can see, NPC turns are just simplified lists of their notable doings. Any armies that Major NPCs move against you, or near you, will be detailed there. 

Additionally you will see their diplomatic information. Watch out for alliances, because often it means they will work in tandem against their common foe. 

NPC nations are not above warring with each other.
