Guardsmen diversify and get a [i]lot[/i] more options later. SoB is basically 'how can I shoot this/decide if it is a heretic/be a nun' from start to finish--whilst also relying more on armour, because Dodge isn't available until Rank 3, and Sound Constitution is expensive. 

There is also the hidden benefit of not being everyone's first target.
