Andrea woke with a start at the screaming. Just a moment ago, she had felt nothing; a numbness had settled over her entire being. But now her nerves jolted awake with a thousand pinpricks on her fingertips. She gasped and scrambled to her feet, brushing twigs and debris from her arms and face. When she had gained her orientation, she found she could barely make out the outlines of trees surrounding her and the shadowy figure of a man standing a little ways away from her in the thick mist. Andrea hugged her elbows and peered through the trees, a shiver passing down her spine. "I-I'm here," she replied with a raised voice so the man could hear her easily. "Wherever 'here' is."
