Von Bismarck released the following rebuttal to the obvious British forgery, telegraphed to the Prussian Ambassador and handed to a British government official in the presence of the British press. Copies were distributed to the press.

"The proposed article is ridiculous. There are so many flaws, a seven year old child could have fabricated a better forgery.

On the formatting, "8th Coalition" ? All previous treaties have written it out as the "Eighth Coalition". 

The signatures are clearly inauthentic as well.

Now on to the logic of it all. What is the point of a secret bilateral treaty? There is plenty of reason why a multilateral treaty could be secret as all parties would hold each other accountable. But a bilateral secret treaty has no point.

I further call that Albert Edward immediately produce the alleged letter sent to the Marxists in its original German as well as the "Treaty of Amsterdam", delivered to a public joint commission of the Prussian, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Scandinavian, and Dutch representatives 
 in London within the hour of this telegram.

If he truly has this letter, why not show it?"
