“He really liked you.” Ash smiled sadly in response to Katelyn and nodded slowly before she stood up, watching as Marshall walked over to the back of the pickup truck and began talking to himself. Curiously she walked over close enough that she could hear him. It sounded like he was speaking to Luke, or at least what would have been Luke if he was still alive she supposed. She waited for him to walk away before approaching the car and climbing up, looking into the back seat. In the tray she could see a human sized figure wrapped in a sheet, one end soaked in blood. Ash knew instantly it was Luke. She reached out and gently laid a hand on the sheet, holding it tightly. “You weren’t supposed to die yet.” She said softly, just looking at the sheet as if he could still hear her. “I still needed you… everyone still needed you I think…” She took a shuddering breath and shook her head slightly. There would be time to cry later, if what the adults said was true. Right now she just… had to hold things together. With the new people things were going to be hard enough without her being useless. Hoping down from the truck Ash walked back over to the group, looking at the others as they began taking things out of the cars. She quickly hurried over and grabbed her own bag and paused for a moment as she saw Luke’s on the floor. Thinking it over for a few seconds Ash grabbed his bag as well, keeping both close to her as she waited to see which cars they would be taking and who she’d be sitting with, though she suspected it would be Sophia and Katelyn. Not that she minded that in the least.
