Three weeks later, it became politically impossible to remain unmarried. At the next debutante ball, where Helga was presented, the Jarl stood up and asked Helga's father for her hand in marriage on the spot as she was the most beautiful girl there, breaking protocol but proving that the Jarl was, at least to all appearances, fine. In actuality, their marriage is cold, as the loss of the mother of all seven of his children has deeply affected the Jarl. She hopes that as the Jarl overcomes his grief, he will warm up to her. Prins Viljalmur, 35 (4) ~The Jarl's younger twin, he is a follower more than a leader, albeit an extremely competent one. He is his brother's most trusted confidant, and the two of them are the best of friends. He too lost his wife in the fire that took Elda. Prins Gunter (brother), 27 (4) ~The most ruthless of the sons of Lodbrok, Gunter does not believe in honor. He has no personal ambitions, but serves House Vasa and will remove anyone who threatens the House, even the Jarl. As much as anyone can trust him, Haraldr trusts him to handle the dirty work. Prins Raudebjorn (brother), 24 (4) ~Raudebjorn is physically the largest, standing at seven feet tall. Far from what his enormous size and lumbering gait would suggest, he is no brute, and is actually the most learned of the sons of Lodbrok. Haraldr frequently entrusts the administration of several fiefs to him. Prins Valgard (brother), 23 (4) ~The duelist of the family, Valgard cannot resist a tournament or a challenge. His day is filled with rigorous training, and he often emerges from his sparring with his brothers battered and bruised, but still smiling. His motives are unclear; he isn't a braggart, and will even enter tournaments under an assumed name. He is also the most honorable, and for this reason Haraldr must ensure he is out of the room when intrigue or politics are discussed. Obviously, he and Gunter do not get along. Prins Yngvar (brother), 22 (4) ~All he wants is to be like Valgard, whom he admires. However, while a love of combat he shares with Valgard, his modesty and honor are lost on him. Whenever he wins anything, the whole world, particularly the women, are sure to know. Prins Johannes (Brother), 19: ~The ascetic, Johannes is reserved and cold. He spends most his time with Raudebjorn reading books, or hunting deep in the woods by himself Prins Ragnvald Vasa, 16 (5) Prins Tyr Vasa, 11 (4) Prinsesse Astrid Vasa (sister), 6 (2) Prins Njall Vasa, 11 (4) Prins Gerhardt, 4 (2) Prins Thorvald, 3 (2) Prins Jakob, 2. From their island of Orkneyjar, they raided and pillaged all of Lundland, until as a result of fecundism the island became overpopulated and the Great Suehan Army landed on the continent and conquered huge swathes of land, driving south most of the original inhabitants. Finally, an anti-Suehan coalition was formed, forcing Jarl Blatand to accept the religion and suzerainty of the overlord in exchange for being able to keep his land. Over the years, House Vasa and the Suehans became progressively Lundized, to the point that their nobles speak Lundish almost exclusively. While all speak Suehan, only the peasants do not have a grasp of the Lundish language. It is meant to symbolize their connection with the land, as the boar is a valuable animal present there. Their motto is 'One Family, Many Bloods.' ] Lord Askr is the lord of Villand, Nyhjem, Bjornholm, Vestland, Ostland, Villsvintre, Ulvtre, Vinhill, Holmgard, Vestfelt, Ostfelt, Ostmars, Noordmars, Dodtre, Brunfelt, and Lapfelt. He is age 45, tall of height, and heavy of weight in muscle, fair of complexion, blond of hair, blue of eye, and possesing of a huge, bushy beard. He is married to Lady Erika, age 43, a lowborn girl by the family name Beiderdottir. He has two sons [ Baldr, age 19, Pengut, age 17 ], and two daughters [ Freya, age 25, Bucgan, age 22 ]. His daughters are married to knights under House Lilla, but his sons have yet to be decided for. He has one sister [ Idun, age 47 ], who has one son [ Haldor, age 28 ], and one daughter [ Cori, age 25 ], both of whom are married, and with children of their own. His mother, [ Rhianfelt, age 66 ] is still alive, and acts as the House's religious advisor. House Villsvin formed when the leader of a Suehan tribe settled on the coast slightly north of House Vasa's lands. Though they fought in all the Vasa's wars, they were more focused on settling their new land. They had a vast expanse with which to accomplish this, but the land was cold, and infertile, so settlement seemed more and more difficult. But, due to its isolation, the land attracted many settlers, not all of Suehan birth. Giants exiled from their tribes, or cast out for weakness; clansmen of the northern forests escaping conflict; Ironstone islanders looking to get away from the island; and even those from Lundland's south came to settle the land. The Villsvins now own a vast domain of numerous groups and people, and the blend of exiled peoples has created a unique culture; a hardy people with fierce pride in their new home, who all came from lands where strength was respected above all else. The people of Villsvin's lands are starting to create their own identity and traditions, but for now, there are ethnic differences to reconcile before they are a truly united people. Lord Askr himself is perhaps the embodiment of this. His father was Suehan, but his mother was of Lundish birth. Were it not for her tanned complexion, she could easily pass for a Suehan. Askr is a very physically powerful man, and believes that strength and honor are the most important qualities any many can have. Despite this, he is a very selfless man, and cares deeply for his people, whom he sees as his duty to protect and help in any way he can. His sense of justice is unerring, and sees all sides of an argument whenever disputes arise amongst his people. As a vassal, he has never doubted your right to rule, and has always done right by you, in battle, and in asserting your will. Askr was unlucky in marriage, however, for he could find no Lundish lady of noble birth to marry when he was young. His wife was and still is quite beautiful, with fair complexion and hair, but she is a very petty and nagging woman. Askr is embarassed by her, but not so much as he is by his children. His eldest daughter, Freya, is a huge girl, standing six and a half feet, and weighing nearly 200 pounds. She seemed born with an axe in her hand, and her prowess as a warrior is astounding, having won the last kingdom-wide tourney held by House Trisch. But while not simple, she isn't the brightest tool in the shed, and talks in a slow, deep speech. Relations do not come easily to her, and despite being married for eight years, has still yet to bear a child. Bucgan is very beautiful girl; voluptuous, fair-skinned, freckled, with short, dark hair, and darker eyes. She has no traits of any known family members, living or dead, and it is thus speculated that she is bastard, though no-one dare's say this publically, for fear of Askr's reprisal. But if she doesn't take after her parents in looks, than certainly in personality: she is very stubborn, self-centered, and demanding. She was married to a handsome knight under House Lilla, Sir Brucke Bcukwyn, and had one son [ Phillip, age 5 ], and one daughter [ Maud, age 2 ] by him. It was something of an open secret that Bucgan was not satisfied by her husband. During a tourney hosted by the Villsvins, it is rumoured that she seduced Yngvar Vasa, one of the Jarl of Jorvik's younger brothers, and Sir Bruce challenged him to a Holmgang [duel to the death] on the spot. Yngvar emerged victorious, but Lord Askr was infuriated, and demanded that the two be married right then and there, to avoid any further shame. Bucgan is now reportedly happily married to Yngvar, and has born one son [ Gustav ] by him. Baldr, the heir to House Villsvin, is a disappointment to Askr. He shows no talent for anything but the lute and song. While both are charming skills, they are certainly not very useful to a ruler. This doesn't seem to bother Baldr, who flits about the land, travelling as if being whisked by the wind. He has a number of girls interested in him, but so far, only a few ambitious lesser lords have expressed a desire to see their daughters wed to him. And last of Askr's children is Pengut, of whom Askr could not resent more. He is a thin boy, with very fair features, and a passion for fine wine, finer music, and the finest dress. He once spent such a sum on new outfits, that Askr paraded him about the castle's village naked, to teach him some humility. But Pengut is not a fool. Quite the opposite, he seems possessed of great cunning, which also greatly angers Askr, who chastises him for fighting with a sharp tongue, instead of a sharp blade. He tortures his servants, and speaks ill of everyone behind their backs, but is very superficially charming, being very good at knowing what others want. He thus has many friends at court and abroad. He has never spoken ill of his family, and in fact, refuses to speak about them at all. Fiefs Villand Infertile [ 8,408 pop. Their motto is 'Live By the Sword.' ] Lord Hansel is the lord of Featherbay, Smuggler's Cove, Ripdash, and Hightide. He is 34 years old, tall of height, average of weight, light of complexion, sandy-brown of hair, and brown of eye, with a thick, pointy moustache, and a left eye made of glass. He was married to Lady Uda of House Argyll, but she has recently died while travelling to Orkneyjar by boat. She was age 40. Hansel has two sons [ Wallace, age 18, Bruce, age 16 ], and one daughter [ Olivia, age 14 ]. Wallace is married, and has one son [ Dagran, age 3 ], but Bruce and Olivia have yet to be spoken for. He has two brothers [ Erik, age 39, Leif, age 37 ], both of whom are married, and have children of their own. House Sorensen 'settled' the lands closer to the mainland during the Suehan migration. Even before the migration, they had been known as an aggressive tribe, but with more prey than ever, they became like children in a sweet's bakery. Their lifeblood and fortunes have risen and fallen with their raiding, which is exactly what gave birth to their motto. Unique to their House, however, is how unlike they are to their Suehan brethren. Having had the most contact with the Lundish people, they seem to have blended with them the most out of all the other Suehan peoples. Their language, accents, dress, mannerisms, and traditions are all a bastard blend of Lundish and Suehan, making them seem quite foreign to all they meet. This is fine for their purposes, for their lands are isolated, locked off from the mainland proper by caves, rocky hills, and jutting coastlines. Lord Hansel himself is a violent and vicious man, who has murdered his fair share of innocent sailors and merchants. He had his left eye stabbed not two years ago during a fight at sea, and now wears a painted glass eye. It barely fits his eyesocket, and is unnerving to look at for long, but that was perhaps his intention. He appeared to marry his wife, six years his senior, solely for her money, which is spent on numerous new ships for his ever-growing fleet. The two were known to despise each other, and he seems to shed no tears over her death. His two sons, Wallace and Bruce, fancy themselves knights of renown, and whenever they aren't on the tourney circuit, go off on sprees of pillaging with their men-at-arms. Olivia is even more unstable and violent: she constantly seeks to isolate herself, and only leaves the family manor at night, where she goes out and steals trinkets from the peasants. Everyone knows about this behaviour, but no-one dares speak against Lord Hansel. Where the girl keeps her ill-gotten treasures, however, is a subject of many a drunk commoner's tale. Compared to their old land, the Ironstones were a promised land, where they could finally settle down and live a stable life. Though they came with peaceful intentions, they were no strangers to violence, and proved worthy of holding their own slice of land, even conquering several lesser Houses in the process. However, they were not entirely unaffected by the culture already present there, and soon came to blend their peaceful philosophies with the raiding ways of the natives, raping and pillaging alongside their new brethren. Lord Svipold is the perfect embodiment of this blending. He is a hearty, jolly man, who treats raiding as both a competitive sport, and excellent way to make up for the shortfalls in harvesting. He is quite short, standing just an inch shy of five feet, but is nonetheless stout, and an excellent fighter. His only son, Ivar, is quite a ways taller than him, and has already proven to be an excellent fighter in both tourney and battle. His wife, Ghelre, he picked for her lovely beauty, and though she had little say in the matter, and she was not exactly the woman he expected her to be, the two make for a darling couple. He is age 76, tall of height and thin of weight, pale of complexion, gray of hair, and rheumy-eyed, though they used to be blue. He was married to Lady Dyda, but she died a natural death two years earlier at the age of 70. He has three sons, [ Ceric, age 54, Tom, age 50, Roger, 44 ]. He had two daughters, Helga and Frida, who both caught an illness in the Waiting season of 107, and put under quarantine in the manor of Grindings. They died almost exactly a year later, in the Waiting season of 108, at the ages 47 and 43, leaving behind two sons each. House Reaver was founded by Inga the Bear, a huge, ferocious woman who lived two centuries ago. Much of what is known comes through legends that perhaps once had a grain of truth to them, but are now clearly stories that have been embellished over the ages. What is agreed is that she was a fierce pirate and raider, who would charge into battle with an axe in either hand. House Reaver has followed the Stronghearts loyally since their founding, and remain the islands most prolific raiders. The reason for their love of raiding is no mystery; their lands are the smallest and some of the least fertile on the islands. Lord Dougan used to be a man of great muscle and battle prowess, but that was many years ago. He considers himself unlucky to have gotten to his age, as he is too weak to die an honorable death in battle. As can be imagined, he sees civilian occupations as a necessary evil to provide for his campaigns. He scorns House Ealmund for having been given to a weak girl, and put under the sway of a Mainlander man. Each of his sons take up much after their father, but even they have their best days behind them, and have sons and daughters of their own to continue the family legacy. Frida and Helga caught a very strange and violent disease at the beginning of the year 107, for which they had suffered from all year. They were locked up in the manor at Grindings, where no one is allowed to visit them. As Lord Dougan believed, they shall either overcome their affliction by their own strength, or deserve to die for their weakness. And in the Waiting season of 108, die they did. Little time was spent on their burials.
