After all, it was lacking in strategic importance, with only a few military bases to its name (including Torrington, which was quite close to his hometown). There was little to gain from attacking his country during the war, and the young MS pilot was thankful for that. Had the war been closer to his shores, his early life may not have been so peaceful.
