Grenadine Confederation Statement by President Bartolomé Calvo in Panamá Few barriers have separated the sharing of knowledge and wealth than the ones set by nature itself; both the nature of man and the nature of the land, created and maintained by God and neither tamed by the bipedal who, such as me, speaks of property over the Earth, when nothing in God's plan has established dominance of one over the other; after all, we are all equal and we stand together, so why should we own each other? It's nonsense shared by the ways of old, and this spoken by a Conservative, who has realized the mistake of his forefathers, mistakes that have been repealed in most of the civilized world even through bloodshed, both ours and of our fellow man. The most recent example would be the terminated rebellion controlled by the Americans of the North, wherein they fought to uphold their way of life; yes, the way of life of mankind, freedom from the chains of the ones that claimed a single model was to be imposed upon a human being, ignoring the Lord's wisdom in giving humanity reasoning to lead their actions, whether be it through the righteous path or the one that takes man deep underground, as judged by Him. I apologize for my ramblings, gentlemen; I only wish to congratulate the ones that shared lines with a few that volunteered from the homeland and who kept the right of man to be free up in the air, to show upon the skies, which would in turn bless the Earth so freedom grows again, such as rain does with the divine creations of God's wide earth. And although we can't fully dominate Mother Earth, for its properties of being God's creation, and therefore, meant to coexist, we can shift it apart, we can't destroy it yet we can, with much effort, shape it in a way that benefits both. Or would you not say that the oceans conjoined together at last, not through strings of brown water that merely tie their fates nor through far reaches in the North and South where an embrace isn't full, would it not please God's will of unity and harmony? Yes, I see your faces of surprise, looking at me as if I was insane; understandable. But I speak of a vision that many men have held, that has come true in other places and has brought many riches to the people around them. A canal. One that parts the Earth to make the knowledge of centuries, of split Empires of old and new, of East and West that have looked at each other so strangely too, to make them fuse. The world is not a square, nor a cube, nor is it flat, and if the best things go through the shortest paths and our world is, indeed, round then ours is a position to be envied by many. We can be the bridge between ancient and new; a nation built upon tradition, reason and unity, uniting the world through a small river. We don't have the tools still, but believe me, gentlemen, this grand wish is not desired by onle me; the Americas stand behind it. The Atlantic and the Pacific have been, for far too long, been our border in commerce, in brotherhood! Not anymore. This is why the province of Panamá was chosen for the Pan-American conference, gentlemen. It is the beginning of a new era and we are standing on its foundations...
