Ethnicity/Nationality: French American Build: Mildly athletic, toned Personality: Joachim isn’t too fond of people - not out of spite, but thanks to the sum of cases he’s had to go through as a police officer. He’s seen his share of savagery that humankind is capable of at the most base levels, and it’s affected his outlook on life and people in general. He resolves to live in the moment, enjoying himself as much as possible, so that when his time comes, he can say that he’s had a good life. At the same time, he’s wary of others around him; in his mind, there’s no telling what someone can do at their worst. Of those who he trusts and cares about, he makes especially sure to see them safe and shielded from harm; the likes of which he’s had to deal with for nearly eight years of his life. Job: Ex-Police Chief – AI Operator Residency: 4th Point – Residential Sector History: Like many others, Joachim saw Byzantium as his ticket to salvation, following the crisis that had wracked Earth. Things were going downhill fast and as a police officer, it was strenuous work to try and put a lid on the unrest haunting residential areas. At least one gunfight a week became the norm, sometimes more. Dealing with gang-related murder, burglary and other felonies all at once became too much for Joachim to take anymore, and it was off to Byzantium. To his vexation, the psych-exams recommended him for police duty again. Only this time, Joachim would oversee a section of AI sentries stationed in the Outward District. The job was certainly safer than he’d had been used to on Earth. No longer on the frontline, Joachim could manage the sentries via monitors within his patrol craft, or even back at headquarters for local duty. It started out as what seemed like easy work and Joachim appreciated the change of pace. However, just because he was not in the field himself, didn’t mean the job was necessarily a comfortable one. As more and more refugees from Earth flooded Byzantium’s outposts, the Outward District saw an influx of those who had either failed to meet Greater Byzantium’s standards or were deemed unfit to live there. Gang activity rose steadily, and slowly Joachim drew parallels between the mess on Earth and the activity within the Outward District. A pessimism towards human nature that lingered inside Joachim during his last few months on Earth snowballed into a much greater distaste. The crimes he’d been dealing with were escalating in brutality and the fugitives he’d been processing through rehabilitation were responsible for a fair share of cold-blooded atrocities. Though physically safe from the danger, Joachim’s mind was not shielded from the cases he’d had to endure, and they lingered there. During an annual psych-examination, the feelings Joachim had stored in his cyberbrain were detected, and he was recommended by his doctor for an alternate line of work. Now on a waiting period of undetermined length, Joachim awaits his next list of potential assignments and spends most of his time in Central Downtown to get his mind off “man’s primal nature.” Other: Joachim’s favorite pastimes include cigar smoking, watching and casually betting on Graviskate, admiring the girls of the red light district, building and painting plastic ship models and recreational shooting.
