[quote=WatermelonTango] Species name - The ShuunaiAppearance - Powers - Plant-Like regeneration, Manipulation of vine like appendages on their body, their bodies contain elements that can be used in medicine,Strengths - Durable, Can easily survive in climates uncomfortable for other species, naturally talented as producing medicines and herbs for healing wounds, they also smell very nice and freshen the air around themselves. Weaknesses - Extreme cold and extreme heat weaken them, Needs a steady source of clean water to sustain themselves,Age scale - 50 - 60 YearsCulture - Shuunai are a very religious and pacifist race. You see, a Shunaai is born from a seed like a tree like most plants, but unlike most plants they have their own sentience. Eventually they will begin to feel tired and slow. Their roots will begin to form and their limbs will become like bark. Eventually a Shuunai will be reduced to being a tree identical to the many trees of their home world. In order to cope with their eventual end of intelligence they have formed various religious practices around the event, and view becoming "One with the Elder Forest" an honor above any other. Shuunai are generally very accepting of people visiting their home and will welcome them with open arms. However, many of them are staunchly opposed to ever leaving, and view any Shuunai who decides to leave their home as exiled. Shuunai who exists outsides of planet Sheldin are uncommon. Even while outside their home world they will inevitably become a tree. A Shuunai tree is a pleasant smelling plant that fetches extremely high prices among noblemen. While this generally wouldn't be a big deal, Shuunai trees produce Shunaai young. Some Shuunai are well taken care of by the owner of the tree, but many end up being sold. They are a sizable portion of the Rahq slave drive, especially since they are a self sustaining population that can live off of nothing but sunlight and water. Homeworld - SheldinRarity - There are only a single colony of Shuunai as sentient beings, but there are plenty of forests created by their passing. On their own planet they are very common.Government type - Monarchy, Strength - Doesn't involve themselves in the struggles of other races often. They happily allow species ravaged by war a home on their planet, and will heal nearly anyone that enters their home. They only allow Rahq and Prime unaffiliated with their government to enter due to the previously mentioned slave drivers. An assault on their home planet is very difficult to pull off since the planet provides perfect conditions for Shuunai regeneration, and killing them would require killing all plant life on their planet. As long as a single tree on their planet is alive and in good health new Shuunai will always be born. Backstory - The first race they had ever encountered was the Rahq, and it wasn't pretty. Fire, deforestation, everything. The Shuunai were resilient and defended themselves as best they could, but they weren't as experienced in war. What they did have was sheer numbers and resilience. Their fighting went on for 5 years, but from the Rahq's point of view they were just a very feisty natural resource. They lost some ships, but they only left when harvesting Shuunai plants stopped being profitable and went somewhere else, leaving their kind wary of other species. That is until they met human kind a short time later. The Shuunai remained hidden for some time, but instead of warriors armed to the teeth they found interested scientists, people studying their forests in pursuit of knowledge. That was when the Shuunai introduced themselves with open arms, much to humanity's surprise. Both Humankind and Shuunai-kind learned much about the true nature of life from one another. As an entire species they never attained space travel, but thanks to the humans the few Shuunai who wanted to explore the stars got the opportunity aboard human vessels.=====================================Character name - Sham-UsfarlNickname - Shamus (Easier to pronounce in day to day conversation and he likes the Ring)Position - Chief Medical OfficerSpecies - ShuunaiGender - N/AAge - 28 (Middle aged relative to humans)Appearance - The differences in appearance of his kind are hard to spot to outsiders not familiar with them. Their scent, however, is entirely unique. He has been described as smelling like baked cookies with chocolate chips made of daisies. A weird combination, but other species will find them much easier to identify by scent and tone of voice. Height - 5"7' Weight - 268 Pounds (Plant Matter is heavy)Apparel - Shamus nearly always dons his lab coat, which has been modified to open up should he require use of his dextrous vines. Armor isn't practical for Shuunai since it hinders their ability to regenerate so he wears the lightest of armor plates possible. Shamus does keep latex gloves with him at all times in accordance with human medical standards and uses them when necessary. Weapons - A standard issue pistol. He wouldn't have brought it at all if the military didn't pressure him so hard to arm himself. He will generally not use it but he decided to drag it along just in case. Equipment - An electronic device with a needle for injecting vaccines and other similar medicines. Can be used to control the dosage precisely if required.- A blood sample. Shamus can take a small sample of blood and analyze it for serious things like toxins, or can simply test your blood sugar. He has more advanced blood test equipment in his work room.- An electronic stitching device. Can be applied over a wound in order to seal it. Not a permanent solution, and the seal will eventually give way unless the patient is admitted to a hospital or medical station. Skills - Trained in medicine, skilled at diagnosing problems and treating them, a good negotiator. He will often try his best to deescalate high stress situations. Weaknesses - Untrained in combat and a lousy shot. Not good at giving commands, nor is he very good at handling complex machinery he hasn't been formally trained to use. Powers - Regeneration, Medicinal Properties, Likes - Poetry, Biology, Human Politics, Cleaning (It's like a hobby to him)Dislikes - The cold, Slavery, Fears - The inky blackness of space. Prefers to cover up the windows of his workspace. Also averse to bright flames like his species is naturally inclined.Personality - Shamus is an easy to get along with individual who will probably take an immediate fascination for you. He can come off as pushy with all of the questions he tends to ask, but he is just enjoys learning about the lives of other races more then some are comfortable with. He grew up as a pacifist like the vast majority of his homeworld, but has since then learned that a bit of violence now and then is worth doing if it means protecting your loved ones. He takes his job as a doctor very seriously, and will always push people to do things that are better for their health much to the rest of the crew's annoyance. Biography - Like most of his kind outside of Rahq slave camps, Shamus was born on planet Sheldin and spent his young life with his peers. He spent a large amount of time with the friendly human colonies on that planet and loved talking to humans about their culture. He was fascinated by what he heard. Shamus was proud of his culture, but after spending 20 years of his life there he knew all that he really felt like knowing about his own kin. Diplomatic ties between the Shuunai and the Humans was very healthy, but Shamus wasn't to see if it could be improved upon. If his kind could find a way to sway the intergalactic community in a positive way rather then by being passive healers. He saw the oppertunity to leave his planet when a Vaxir freight ship was making it's routine supply delivery and took it. Shamus then when to a human institute to study medicine and became an officially recognized doctor. It didn't take long for him to get himself into the military. He was one of the very few of his kind to enroll, but they had a reputation for resilience and as doctors so it only took a few strings being pulled to get him through. Since joining he has met some resilience; people found him a bit too inhuman and strange to feel comfortable having him operate on them. But Shamus always did his best to bond with his shipmates and earn their trust. He's gotten along swimmingly with people... 4 out of 5 times. He doesn't care to mention the 1 time he did not. Shamus was enrolled on the S.S. Durendal as a sign of diplomacy with the Shuunai, but his impressive record for treating patients was the reason the real reason he was allowed to serve.
