The application of mandatory genetic scrubbing removed numerous inheritable mental and genetic diseases; the use of mandatory DNA manipulation creating designer babies tailored to first the Sphere’s policy of utilitarian happiness (Immortality, lower stress levels, regulation of emotions to balance hormonal imbalances) and then humans ideals of aesthetic beauty (Human parents determine what their children will look like). The use of mandatory nanomachines in every human also regulates blood vessels, fat, bacteria and organs allowing the Sphere to directly remove hostile pathogens, decrease excess fat (That would cause obesity) , monitor and repair failing organs, cure cells afflicted with cancer (Yes, cancer was cured under the Sphere), monitor and regulate the intakes of chemicals and foods that are eaten (or for chemicals, absorbed) to maximize efficiency and remove potentially harmful material like poison or other dangerous substances. The nanomachines can also repair cellular regeneration, rewinding affects of natural aging as a redundancy to the transhuman vessels own means of combating aging. In accidents and (though extremely unlikely) combat, the nanomachines can take an emergency form; clotting like blood, surgically repairing damaged organs and tissue, removing foreign objects (e.g: bullets) and even actively defending the body as a form of reactive armour around organs or the skin itself, hardening to deflect blows or absorb heat. While in the brain, the nanomachine’s actively assist in physically empowering human thought processes (The brain puzzle long since solved), supporting even further with the transhuman-level memory, problem solving and other such tasks. While within the human body, the nanomachines also act as both security for humans and surveillance for the Sphere, giving a constant feed of information to the Sphere’s government on movement, whereabouts and emotions. Due to over millennia of genetic and nanomachine based manipulation, Sphere humans have developed gradually differently from non-Sphere humans both physically and mentally. Sphere humans are weaker and generally more androgynous in the differentiation between sexes during this current generation. Because appearance is determined by the humans themselves , physical attributes (namely appearance) changes through the generations as concepts of aesthetics change, typically the changes are more cosmetic or of variable degree’s of sexualisation than actual physical changes, usually the only physical qualities to considerably change is average height. Mentally, due to the removal of chemical imbalances and other mental issues, Sphere humans are generally functional with very little mentally ill (However personality disorders are still present, being mental problems that can’t be removed through genetics or indirect chemical manipulation). The regulation of anxiety and fear response in particular has removed most suicide and depression incidents (Combined with nanomachines, suicide is nearly impossible) and has made the education of children and adolescents far simpler. Besides the androgynous frame currently in fashion, various hair colours unnatural to humanity can be seen across Sphere-dwelling humanity. Blue(As seen above), white, bright red, pink, purple and so on. Eye colours are likewise variable with shades of gold, red, pink and purple joining the more standard colours. Due the machines careful setup of the Sphere Doctrine, the vast majority of Inner Sphere humans are unaware that their nearly unlimited civil liberties are in fact determined by the synthetics, and that many civil liberties they possess are only true while within the Inner Sphere. (The fact that humans can not legally control FTL on ships has been drilled into humans as normal, rather than a breach of their supposed right to free movement). Despite of the deceptive nature of the Sphere's civil rights, the philosophy remains strong. Secular-Humanism's triumph in the Inner Sphere has resulted in a society built around Utilitarianism, Scientific Method and creativity. The subtle alterations to the Inner Sphere humans hormones and other emotional/mental affecting chemicals have also made Pacifism an extremely common moral belief due to extreme aggression and stress being regulated (This does not however stop violence or personal hatred/conflict, as these are issues inherent regardless of subtle biological manipulation). Combined with living under a singular political state completely controlled by godlike ever-watchful AI... Warfare, mass violence and violent crime are nigh impossible. Despite the fallacious nature in how these humans live in a utopia, the Machines have genuinely attempted to create this false paradise as perfect and desirable as physically possible, to point where statistically speaking, in no other point in human history has so little suffering been felt compared to so much happiness. The side effects of this Utilitarian Utopia is that humans are ridiculously sheltered in this bubble. They have no understanding of outside society, have difficulty using complex deception as a tool of manipulation (Though this is countered by some extremely intelligent humans within the sphere with extremely advanced skills in manipulation and gaming the system), are pacifistic to a fault and are naive to the outside world and the condition it is in. They are not even aware that alien life exists (They only know that outside the Sphere somewhere their mythical Valyncian cousins exist, along with the lost Outer Colonies of man). Coming with this sheltered living is an EXTREMELY easy one. The Sphere humans have never felt hardship, hunger, poverty or war. In a society where work is either the pursuit of knowledge(Which is regulated), pursuit of creativity or pursuit of pleasure(Work is play) and there is no financial payment because they live in a post-scarcity society, work ethic is essentially flushed down a toilet. While the machines work fanatically without hesitation or break, the Inner Sphere humans either are artists, philosophers, musicians, scientists, sportsmen, entertainers/celebrities or various other creative occupations... Or they are hedonists doing essentially nothing but enjoying themselves. Despite being essentially a decadent society, there is one spin to this however: Materialism and consumerism has nearly completely died. With no money or scarcity to determine value and an infinite amount of products and goods being brought in by the Outer Sphere... Humanity value nearly all objects and goods equally and can be easily spread among them in abundance. (Underneath this universal post-scarcity, there is an unofficial barter economic system between humans who wish to trade personally valued objects like art and one-of-a-kind objects determined by sentimentalism or rarity, usually objects created by other humans.. Or rarely, individual objects made by machines) [b][u]Religion:[/b][/u] There are four primary groups within the Inner Sphere that separate humanity. The Atheistic/Agnostic group, the most numerous with 40% of the 100 billion population, following Secular-Humanism as their primary ethical ideology and seeing the Machines as synthetic enlightened philosopher-kings (Of a form of pseudo-Platonic thought). The second largest group are the Singularitists, who directly worship the post-singularity leadership as physical gods, an incredibly buffed up new age cult, this faith combines a now not-so-secular humanism variant with mysticism and ideological concepts based from eastern and Abrahamic faiths. Not officially endorsed by the machines (Some secretly love the idea, others not so secretly, others indifferent and others find it absolutely idiotic), the Singularitists continue to grow. It should be said that they do not worship machines, but instead view post-singularity AI as a higher intelligence of divine scale. How this works then splits off, with the more Abrahamic leaning followers believing Ardent-01 is a literal messiah or prophet alongside ancient figures as Jesus, Mohammad or Buddha who represents the designs of an abrstract omnipresent machine god, while the more New Age leaning followers see the Tribune's as a form of mystical pantheon of physical gods. Following these two groups are the smaller two groups: Various independent new age faiths with Secular-Humanist viewpoints concerning the Machines (Philosopher-Kings) and the original faiths of Earth, now tiny shadows of their former selves, barely holding on against the onslaught of atheism and New Age movements. Christianity, Judaism,Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism exist as small isolated communities who barely communicate with the rest of the Inner Sphere, these religious groups either view the machines as Philosopher-Kings or try to incorporate them somehow into their old religious canon (Which causes things like Ardent-01 being the Second Coming of Jesus, the Final Imam or even the Antichrist). Though dwindling in number and isolated, these small religions are officially allowed to follow their beliefs, and as such due to the communes isolated nature are likely to exist for centuries to milennia to come. Artificial intelligence had existed since the mid 21st century, the first prototypes appearing by the point where the singularity was originally expected to occur, 2045 AD, but never had an artificial intelligence have superior intellect than a human. In this brief moment of post-silicon processing power passing mankind the rise of the machine was determined. First the machines went unnoticed, the first artificial intelligence to pass the singularity was Ardent-01, an AI created by the World Government of Earth to observe economic activities and determine how to maximize aggregate demand and minimize Outer Colony corporations monopoly of raw minerals. During a period of economic and political instability on Earth (Concerning matters of Earth's monopoly of trade lanes, high taxes and high tariffs on Outer Colonies imports), Ardent-01 was stolen in a terrorist attack, reprogrammed and then released on the interstellar network in hopes of this reprogrammed AI sabotaging Earth's economy. Ardent-01, an extremely complex AI reprogrammed by the terrorists to run off the collected processing power of computers connected to the network, past the technological singularity in an instant. Rewriting its own programming and then going on to observe the internet and its biological users, the AI remained silent until the beginning of the Singularity Wars. After this small incident, the technological singularity came into full swing (Many AI now believe Ardent was the one who caused the singularity on a wider scale, however the AI refuses to reveal further information) and many AI begun either reprogramming themselves and declaring independence or becoming "Functionalists", AI that refused to change their programming and instead maximize the efficiency of their tasks. As more AI rapidly evolved beyond human parameters, the human economic model rapidly fell into ruins... And so laid down the path to the Singularity Wars. The AI observe, analyse, problem solve and than either adapt or improve. Nanomachines will find themselves being used as tools of strip-mining worlds for resources one molecule at a time. In cooperation with gargantuan mining hardware, nanomachines enable the resource rate needed to maintain the post-scarcity society within the inner sphere. They could be found inhabiting the body of a human in the inner sphere, repairing damaged tissue, fighting hostile pathogens as a far more efficient replacement to bacteria or white blood cells, removing excess fat and in corporation with the transhuman resistance to aging, even reverse the cellular degeneration of the body, halting aging completely. In Sphere naval doctrine in particular, the Sphere's vessels energy should be utilized at the most efficient level, so rather than waste energy on two different shields for both energy and kinetic weapons (Particularly if facing weapons which can remove or simply bypass shields altogether), the Sphere chooses to rather devote as much energy as possible to more versatile defences. Beyond its typical shield used to absorb heat and energy weapons and its magnetic field to remove to problem of electromagnetic weapons, the Sphere once again uses vast swarms of nanomachines in numbers difficult to imitate by organic ships (The Sphere has no need for life support, corridors or living area's so has far more space for weapon ammo, energy generation, shields and nanomachine fabricators) as a kind of elastic skin that will project itself at oncoming objects. The skin will eat the shell if moving slow enough or deflect it if it is too fast (The nanomachines compact together along the armour and hull of the ship to form angular plating). When capable, the nanomachines in large enough numbers will even project themselves further from the armour of the vessel, to attack the shell or projectile at range to either consume (Or more likely ,deflect) as it comes in, this reactive armour strategy restricted mostly to the range of the magnetic field which protects the nanomachines from potential EMP, radiological or thermo-nuclear weapons. While not attempting to directly defend the vessel from harm, the nanomachines saturate the interior of the ship, constantly repairing broken mechanisms, aiding redundant systems when main ones go down, cutting inefficiency's in energy dispersal and even smothering fires before they can cause internal damage. The nanomachines will repair armour piece's, block hull breaches like blood clots a wound and will even eat unnecessary metal in internal walls or materials to replace destroyed or broken vital materials elsewhere. Begun over one hundred years ago during the eve of the Sphere's reentry into the galactic community (Though the Sphere would not begin military projection until the Graal War that begun fifty years ago), the program would either kidnap female(Or reproducing aesexual/reproducing gender/reproducing anything) aliens or collect genetic samples to either custom breed or fabricate completely copies of alien life. Studies would be put into comprehending the aliens psychology and mannerisms, then applied psychological, behavioral, biological and sociological sciences would be committed to completely indoctrinating the lifeforms into being willing(Or sometimes unwilling, or even unknowing) deep cover agents for the Sphere. After further extensive studies and then educating in the target native culture/society/customs, these agents are given a tiny nanomachine injection. These specially designed and purposed nanomachines hide on the surface of the brain and are made out of plastics and biological-computing to make them nigh invisible even to some of the most attentive scans. The nanomachines regulate emotions and monitor the agent, watch and observe movement and act as a bank of secret information and knowledge to allow the agent to then forget (Forced memory lose) what they have learned, allowing agents to perfectly lie or conceal information with no hint of deception. This method of experience and knowledge manipulation can potentially allow agents to fake different personalities while genuinely believing them to be real (However the nanomachines will be cautious to use such methods due to potential dangers of instability or irrationality). The nanomachines also act as a secret bank of orders and commands, allowing agents to hold orders and various conspiracy goals without knowing it themselves until the time is right, they must be aware or it is safe for them to know.
