However, I'm curious as to why this RP is set so far in the future. Is the year a result of a different calender or is it really this far future? I ask because I'm curious how culturally different My faction should be given such long time span.
Regarding the year, Lonely Planet still follows the Gregorian calendar (modern day calendar) so yes, it's really that far in the future. I came up with the year because to my belief it would at least take 5 centuries to terraform a planet. I assume such technologies would be available around the 27th century (but space colonies via stations was already at hand around 24th century). First is the colonization of Luna, say it started in 27th century, then Mars in 30th century then Venus on 31st century. Mercury will be the last one terraformed so on 33rd century, which would be the half-way terraformation of Venus. Following this train of thought, Luna will be completely terraformed in 31st century, Mars in 34th, Venus in the 35th and Mercury in the 38th. Also wanted generations, post-terraformation, to have been present on each planets surface i.e. having their own culture distinct from Earth. Starting on the completion of Mercury's terraformation, I added 5 centuries which sums up to year 4200.
