“If you play guitar, it’s almost impossible. You’re better off not even learning how to play guitar or write songs, and just singing in the shower and auditioning for ‘The X Factor.’ And I’m not slamming ‘The X Factor,’ or pop singers. But where’s the next Bob Dylan? Where’s the next Beatles? Where are the songwriters? Where are the creators?”
If his words have any truth to them, it's because of this statement right here. Regardless of whether you like him or not, Gene has pull with his fans, and the fans of Kiss as well as other Classic Rock bands. When his fans see words like this, those very same bands who look up to him and the other members of Kiss just the way he did years ago, they see that their dream of becoming like him isn't worth it. Not everyone will see it that way, but he's really the one doing the most damage with statements like this. As an example of someone who worked hard to make their name, he should be supporting the struggling creators out there by telling them that it is worth it to pursue their dreams, not strike a blow to their confidence by saying they may as well sing in the shower. He's got his money though, so it doesn't matter to him if the genre lives or dies.
