These Imperium dudes don't have much to do with my gypsies but here we are anyway.
Tranosian's Short Bio Transnosian's, usually called gypsies, merchies, nomads and tinkers, are a nomadic group of aliens that are loosely tied to the desert planet Trannosh. Trannosh is a barren wasteland devoid of all life apart from the Transnosians and several smaller species who retreated underground into caves. Tranosians are better described as a faction rather than a civilisation, as it largely made up of tribes who wander the stars in search of scrap to buy and sell, returning to their home planet every few years to hand in the profits to their tribe. As such, there is very little written history in Transnosia due to an oral tradition of telling the path. Transnosian's are generally viewed with suspicion throughout the galaxy due to their often shady business practices and their refusal to integrate into the societies they live in. The Transnosian's I will be playing will be a small group of merchants of the tribe Kargooth who bounce from planet to planet in a small cargo ship to buy and sell, by no means a large civilisation capable of declaring or fighting a war. Physiology Basically, this For cultural reasons, the gypsies cover themselves in loose flowing garb and usually cover their faces to avoid the light that hurts their weak eyes. They usually stand at a proud 6 foot and are often described by other races as being overweight. Behind their mask/face garb, they have a long snout (think the jackals from Halo) and tufts of random hair across their body as most of it is shaved for cultural reasons. They very rarely remove all their clothing and usually live and sleep in the same clothes. As such, quite an unpleasant smell usually surrounds them and an self respecting merchant will never spend to long around a tinker. Different tribes often have different cultures and even languages and that often means someone who knows a lot of these creatures can usually distinguish their tribe. Society Society is decentralised and focuses on several large tribes that live on the desert planet Tranosh. It is common for the tribes to make a lot of their money by sending out groups or 'Merchies' in junk or cargo ships out to space to make money for the tribe. Every few years, a Tranosian Merchant group returns home to his tribe to give all their profits to the tribe who will then spend it on improving their towns and lives and reinvest it to the merchants, who return to the stars. The head of the tribe can be male or female, as Tranosian culture does not define a difference between males and females (apart from mating). Tribes themselves can number in the millions but most are decentralised and a collection of several smaller tribes. Merchies are an important class in Transnosian society and stand next to the warriors in terms of endearment. I shall be concentrating on a small faction of merchants who travel around planets getting up to adventures. Location The Merchies can be found all across the galaxy but most are on the planet Trannosh (I'm unsure where to place it yet due to not knowing where everyone else is) Economy/Industry On Trannosh, most of society is agricultural with a bit of mining. Most tribes rely on the funds brought by merchies and often import more than they export. Merchies can deal in anything but are (in)famous for dealing in illegal goods and metallurgy. Technology Merchies are the most advanced class in Trannosh and carry automatic weaponry, droid's, large junk or cargo ships and other advanced technology that hasn't made it's way to Trannosh yet. Trannosh is a bit of a backwater and is severely behind in technology terms. Military There is no sizable military force on Trannosh due to the often bickering tribes refusing to unite. Warriors on Trannosh are often more ceremonial while Merchies are the ones packing the real heat.
