Non-human races do exist, but they don't exist in Ahlunda. Elves are known and some people don't like them, but there are others to. The humans of Ahlunda don't even know dwarves exist, it's been so long since they left to live in other lands.

They'e incredibly rare in Ahlunda, to put it simply.
