An Adam's Apple is nothing more than a laryngeal prominence. It's fairly hidden for both genders when they're young, but as males grow older, the larynx as well grows, leading to it becoming visible. Women have larynx's just the same as men, they're just usually much smaller, which is why I said you need to feel for them. You need to usually press pretty hard down on the throat, and since you're looking for the larynx, you probably shouldn't be doing that.
