I am a proud Ottoman subject. Religion: Mu'tazilist Islam Background: A sociologist and a thinker with a history stretching back to the Young Turks and their initial Liberal-Conservative split, Prince Sabahaddin is a veteran activist and theoretician who fought long and hard for the removal of the autocratic Abdulhamid regime. He was exiled from the Ottoman Empire on various occasions due to his anti-governmental ideas, but returned in times of crisis, such as the Young Turk Revolution of 1908, but was banned and had to flee the country on many occasions thereafter. His political vision is to establish a truly democratic Ottoman state with more liberal economic policies, containing means of decentralization and private initiative as well as the development of a truly pedagogic educational system. He also seeks to create harmony and tolerance between Ottoman Christians and Muslims, and between the various different ethnic groups of the empire - and one of the most important aspects of this is fair representation for all subjects of the state and an economic system which ensures all have good economic opportunities and thus need not turn to dissent and radical ideas which could eventually destabilise the fragile unity of the Ottoman state. Constituency: Jerusalem Political Party: The Liberal Party, as President
