And so this Onnoji clan dedicated their lives to the use of demonic forces, regardless of the repercussions. For a great length of time, they employed the creatures of hell in its many forms to aid them on the battlefield and amidst the darkness. The periods of war in the world ensured that their modem of life and culture would not be outdated. As long as blood needed to be spilled, they would retain this grim balance in their lives to succeed in battle. Of course, such a worldwide phenomenon could not sustain itself forever. The wars ended, and much to the Onnoji clan's chagrin, their great country too put down its arms in favor of peace. Their clan was left without a goal in life, but as their ways were too ingrained and powerful (due in no small part to the presence of power-lusting demons), even in peace they did not falter. Esouru is a member of this clan, born into a family meant for war, but idle in that respect. Growing up with a sword called Taisamaru containing the soul of a demon, she was destined to suffer from the recoil of messing with the infernal forces of Hell. And for that, Esouru slowly lost her sight until it fully vanished by the age of fourteen. Such debilitating disabledness of course would not avert the commands of an immense family and clan. No matter her misfortune, Esouru would still take up the mantle of an Onnoji warrior. Blindness was a trivial matter. When it came to combat, indeed it was; but life was obviously of more than just battle, even for an Onnoji clan member like herself. Where her fighting prowess did not falter (indeed, it grew), her ability to enjoy life's other pleasures was lost. She could find her way through a location simply by sound and an empowered spiritual sixth sense, but could not pick up the color of an object nor bask in any scenery before her. She could not identify faces, could not appreciate art (forget produce it), could not look upon architecture. Her world became a bleak sense of "obstacle" and "empty" feelings. For this, Esouru is no stranger to losing oneself to the mystical forces of another entity. As she grew to an adult, and succumbing to the heavy-handed ways of her family, she married for wealth and bore a single child before her husband fell to the very power their clan sought to control. Just like herself, Esouru's child too was conscripted into the training procedures of her clan, and she soon saw little of the son she so recently had. Drained of feeling in her life, Esouru sought to find some other thing to keep her going. To fuel her sense of duty and ensure her life hadn't become dried out so soon. She volunteered, on the behalf of her clansmen, to enter the Labyrinth for her country. Should it be her end... so be it -the other option... she did not count on happening. [/hider] I can elaborate on the clan if need be, but I felt this sufficed to get my character's story across.
