Name: Nicholas Philip Raynor Nickname/Alias/Etc: “Bible Boy” “Nick” Gender: Male Age: 15 Height: 5'6 feet Weight: 140 Status: New Student Appearance Hair Color: Dark Brown, almost Black Eye Color: Blue with hints of Green Ethnicity: Caucasian- Polish, Native American, and French are in his blood, with a light trace of Jewish. Physical Appearance: Nicholas is fairly average in general in terms of appearance, although he does remarkably look like the kind of guy that would be pushed around in school. He has pale white skin with some darker hues of tan around his arms and hands, possibly due to his Native American traits. His hair is curly and wild, and sometimes a mess for him to deal with, to the point where he has to keep it short for the most part, except his bangs, which he allows to curl downward, whereas the rest of his hair is kept to form a roundish-flat shape. In terms of muscularity, there's nothing remarkable here, being despite not weak, he does not regularly work out, and prefers to keep his weight down by eating properly, and because of this, his arms are fairly smooth. His head is diamond-shaped, with a short nose and shaved facial hair, giving him a clean face. His ears are fairly large and pronounced, but they do not dip, instead being curved and smooth versus sharp. His complexion holds a few moles and freckles on his cheeks, but for the most part, he looks fairly clean. His eyes are large and somewhat beady, with dark Blue eyes with hints of green hues on the edges. His jaw-line is somewhat sharp, but for the most part, it blends with his cheeks fairly well, but his chin is quite sharp, jutting out blockily quite a bit from his mostly healthy-looking face. Attire: Most of Nicholas' attire is mostly casual, ranging from blue jeans with a light t-shirt underneath a hoodie, to khaki shorts with a button up shirt, some times baggy, sometimes tight, it just depends on the occasion. He -does- have a few suits at his disposal, though, if ever needed. He usually totes around a backpack to keep his things in, notably. Personality Outward & Innate Personality: Nicholas is somewhat a strange, yet kind and noble fellow, but not because he dislikes talking to people. For the most part, he doesn't really fit well into being the center of attention, finding it uncomfortable or strange due to his lack of experience, and so often will prefer one on one conversations with people rather than conversing with a group. However, that's not to say he's incapable, but it is surely his preference to -not- take on the pressures. Despite this, he does enjoy conversing to people and making a joke here and there, but not all the time, more-so discussing topics of interest as well as philosophical or social concepts. Because of this, he can come off as older than he actually is. Inwardly, Nicholas is a silently but desperately frustrated with people picking on him and calling his faith stupid, but often unsure of how to even begin to liberate himself of these insults, and as such, often distracts himself with other hobbies. Because of this, he can sometimes find himself stricken with fear of being shot down or made fun of because of his faith, and sometimes studies in private out of fear, though he has ways to temper that fear. Despite this, if someone inquires, he will happily share his faith, and he is quite open to sharing his feelings if the person he's talking to is gentle enough that he has faith that they won't betray his weakness. But beyond all this, deep inside of his hidden thoughts, a silent sense of right and wrong reigns, and because of that, his mind has a rather moral sense to it. Because of this, if he -does- see something wrong going on, in his mind, he knows its wrong, so he keeps from doing it, but out of fear, he keeps from interfering most of the time, due to inner fear, unless it involves bullying another student. This doesn't ignore his natural emotions, though, there are times that he will feel wronged by those who he trusts, or just cut out of a group for being different. If that is the case, he will often pull inward and distant from others for a short time. Hobbies/Interests: Unsurprisingly, Nicholas is largely a Christian, and his interests involve studying the Bible and the character studies of the characters from said book. At the same time, however, he does enjoy looking at art, cooking, and video games, especially. Skills/Talents: Nicholas is a wiz kid at playing video games, and is usually capable of finishing them in record time, not that he makes a habit out of it. Furthermore, despite not having an extreme interest in it, he is quite good at playing the acoustic guitar, even doing so at times where he would feel depressed in the past. He also has a small amount of mixed martial arts training he garnered in his free time for the sake of self defense. Prized Possession: His Holy Bible, unsurprisingly. He keeps it hidden in his backpack usually. Quote(s): “Em, hey, are you guys sure about this?” History/Bio: Nicholas was brought up in a middle-class family that were mostly well-to-do due to his father being busy with his flooring business. Because of this, in his younger years, he was home-schooled by his mother, who was a deeply spiritual Christian and imprinted on Nicholas a great deal of his beliefs, being taught, alongside his younger and older sisters, everything implied by the Bible. Because he was home-schooled, he spent a great deal of his time alone, playing video games and just being a normal, average kid. However, his sisters were often harsher to him than his mother as, being the middle child and the only son, his mother defended him when the two of them would argue with him, and as a result, they began to pick on him and insult him. This strengthened in frequency as he got older, and around ten, he became notably lonely. Because of this, his mother enlisted him in a public school rather than home-school him, seeing it as a proper opportunity for him to make some friends. It was anything but. Being home-schooled and believing everything he had been told as a young boy, he found himself in situations where he was beaten up and picked on because he refused to shut up or back down. This resulted in him becoming much more reserved in presenting his beliefs, keeping silent more. But the beatings didn't stop, and he was often criticized for often interfering with activities that he considered wrong, especially involving bullying other students. Despite this, he gained a steady, small group around him for the students he did defend, and he found himself not -quite- as lonely, and because of this, he found himself motivated to stand up for more students against local bullying. It seemed things had changed for the better. That was before something happened. At fourteen years of age, Nicholas was doing his typical routine. Reading his Bible in the corner of the lunch room, keeping to himself. Then a group settled beside him, staring at him silently. He didn't look at them, being too caught up in the book...too caught up to notice one of them reaching for it. It wasn't long before it was stripped from his hands, and quickly passed to another of the students, before the students dragged Nicholas outside. It was then Nicholas recognized this group. They were the typical jock folk, looking a bit older than the kids he was used to seeing around this time. Probably sixteen, seventeen years old. Moments later, they were out behind the school, no one else was around, as it wasn't recess, after all. It was there that Nicholas saw it, his bible, in the hands of one of the older boys. He pulled out a lighter, and in a sinister smirk, caught it aflame, throwing it to the ground, before walking up to Nicholas and proceeding to beat him brutally. Nicholas anger, which usually was kept silent, burnt angrily. He didn't do -anything- wrong. And that Bible meant a lot to him. He had kept it since he was young, and to him, it was incredibly important, not as just holy scripture, but something...more. A way for him to pull away from the chaos of life. With that, and with his own anger brimming from being beaten so brutally, something changed. White flames took hold of his hands as his anger took on physical form, and despite the searing pain they caused him, they forced those who were holding onto him to let go, before he outright ran towards the fellow who had burnt his bible, slamming his right fist into face and breaking his nose in one simple punch, and downing him in one stroke as the flames soon ceased. His hands were burnt terribly, and he yelled out in pain as he fell onto the ground, his hands having turned a charcoal brown color. The other students watched in awe, some fearful of dealing with a boy who could conjure flame so quickly and violently. In the back of his mind, the young Nicholas wished he had never gotten so angry, and hadn't hurt himself so badly. That his hands didn't hurt so damn much. And then the flames raged again...but this time, it was different. They were soothing, and within seconds, his hands were painless. Furthermore, he felt something...strange, overtake his mind. He wasn't sad, or angry anymore, or...at least, not as much. He felt...strong. He was able to look at the situation clearly, as if the sting from the personal wound didn't hurt as bad. He looked at the student he had hurt in anger, laying on the ground and holding his nose in pain. He remembered all of the teachings he had been taught, about doing good unto others. To love others as yourself. What kind of hypocrite would he be if he didn't act in the same fashion? And within a second, he reached out, a flicker of a flame reaching out and covering the young man's face, and within seconds, healing the fellow out of guilt for him, though it was with some hesitance. This became public news quite easily, as by the time this was over, teachers had arrived. Parents argued about having such a dangerous individual at the school, and eventually, Nicholas withdrew from the school, taking on home-schooling and studying of his own volition. A few months later, and a letter came in from Academy 218, offering him schooling there. He hadn't heard about it, but his father told him that it was a prestigious Academy for people just like himself. He quickly stated his confirmation to go. And now, six months later, he leaves home, and now makes his way to the new school, probably a -little- late in the semester, but he didn't care. He was just happy to be going somewhere he didn't have to be judged so badly. He already had enough of that. He seems really nice and sensible, and I think he might end up being one of my favorite teachers.” Abilities Power Class: Elemental/Cerebral/Other 5 Power: Flames of Hope - These flames are not true flames, but rather, flames that are manifested from Nicholas' own subconscious, and because of this, though they bear similarities, it is not true fire. Because of this, in its natural state, these flames do not burn. Quite the opposite, actually, for Nicholas can use them to heal those around him. The amount of healing is determined by Nicholas' himself, and beyond that, the flames do more than just heal physically. They also raise the morale level of those who are touched by the flames, causing them to feel braver, stronger, and perhaps give them much less of a chance to be crippled by fear when things go to shit. However, when Nicholas gets exceptionally angry, another state takes hold. The flames become destructive and are extremely hot, even more-so than normal flames, causing him to burn most objects capable of being burned with fire easily. It is notable that because these are not true flames, in its healing form, these flames cannot be put out by water or smothered. Weaknesses/Limitations/Drawbacks: First: Range. Due to how Nicholas power works, it can only be initiated if either he or his flames can reach a person, and Nicholas can only toss them a finite distance, about 10 feet or so. Second: Excessive Use. Excessively using his healing properties too much in a single sitting can outright begin to damage his own body. Albiet, at a slower rate than his offensive flames would, but prolonged exposure to this over-used state can result in temporary or permanent damage to his hands and to any other part of his body in contact with the flame. Third: Offensive Flame. Because of how they are influenced by his rage, they know neither friend from foe. In this state, any of his flames that touch himself will burn just as bad as if they touched anything that has incited his anger, leaving him completely vulnerable to let his own anger burn him to ashes if he does not get it under control. Furthermore, if his arms are held during this state, his abilities are -useless-, being he cannot move the flames with his mind alone. Fourth: Himself. If he cannot hold a high enough confidence when using the morale-based part of the flame on others, it will be ineffectual. Other: NA(for now)
