Name:"Marcus", although some of the Southern Mountain tribes know him as "The Recluse" Age: 20 Gender: Male Faction/Allegiance: Marcus Relic Description: Sang Min His relic is a small but beautifully crafted knife, named Sang Min. It is an antique heirloom, passed down from father to son as far as time itself can remember. Its age shows slightly in a few blemishes on the blade, but considering its age, the weapon is in a remarkable condition, which shows in the fact that the engravings look recently forged Sang Min grants its Evoker enhanced fighting abilities. However, there are a few flaws. Skills with any blade or weapon but Sang Min aren't enhanced, neither are martial combat skills and using its power costs the evoker stamina. Moreover, the enhancement only works as long as its wielder is holding Sang Min. It is rumored to have far greater power, but this is the only power Marcus has discovered thus far. Appearance: Marcus has a rather slim, sinewy built, dark brown hair and striking dark brown eyes that verge on onyx. He prefers to keep on the cloth covering the lower half of his face at all times - except when eating and drinking of course- as well as his mantle and cowl. Flaws: The Odd Man out - Marcus hasn't adapted to the Othean culture whatsoever, despite living in Othea for four years now. The only things he learned about Othea, were moreover told by wandering merchants, minstrels and the people of the Southern Mountains (who are generally seen as bumpkins by the rest of Othea). This will always make him stand out in crowds unless there are a variety of nationalities present. (His typical Da-Hyuni clothes, accent and odd curses don't help all that much with this problem either.) The "Different Morals" and "Foreign Religion" flaws also add to this one. Average - He has a lot to learn about swordsmanship as well as archery and he can't call himself a master of anything as of yet. He also has little to no knowledge of relics, including his own, with the exception of legends passed on by his ancestors. Different morals - Being a Da-Hyuni, Marcus has a whole different set of morals and values than most Otheans. For example, the concept of 'fair play' in either sword fighting, gambling or any other activity, is generally perceived to be both 'inefficient' and 'weak' in Da-Hyun. Foreign religion - Marcus is an extremely religious follower of 'The Nine'. Due to this, he has to make sure that he follows a certain strict set of religious rules and amongst other things, he has to make sure that his body is cremated in either a lake or at sea. (Also, being obliged to offer food to your gods isn't such a great plan when you're already running low on provisions.) Skills: Average warrior - Marcus has been trained by several of his father's retainers to be an averagely skilled swordsman and archer, as he would become his succesor one day. Years of being a huntsman has made him into a fine archer, though nowhere near the level of the legendary Kalnachi Longbowmen. Skills of the Wild- He's good with animals and possesses a variety of outdoor skills, meaning that he can build a makeshift shelter, repairs and makes his own clothes, he's skilled in skinning animals and knows which plants are edible and which are not in forested areas. Educated- Due to his (ex-)noble background, Marcus has enjoyed a well-round education. He's able to read and write, plays two instruments and speaks both the common language and various dialects fluently. However, the little practice in the last five years have left these skills rather rusty. Biography: Twenty years ago, Marcus was born as the only son into the family of a high nobleman (Saeng) in Da-Hyun, a country of Isles to the west of Azukhar. He grew up in wealth together with his two elder sisters and father. He was polished and groomed to become his father's successor but lived in the blessed unawareness of his father's intrigues at court. That all came to an end, a few weeks before Marcus would have become fifteen years old (generally seen as the age at which one becomes an adult in Da-Hyun). One day, without any sign beforehand, he returned to the family's estate to find his father and older sisters brutally murdered with Sang Min. Since Marcus was the one to find them, and moreover the only heir and thus the only one allowed to touch the blade besides his father, the finger of blame soon pointed his way. Marcus barely managed to escape Da-Hyun with his life and Sang Ming, with which he had felt a strange sort of bond ever since he had pulled it from his father's chest. After that, he lived his life as an exile, avoiding human settlements when possible as he travelled from kingdom to kingdom. Only when he encountered the great Karak Claw Mountains, did he halt his journey. Finding himself in Othea, Marcus decided that this place was far enough from his homeland to make any pursuers halt their chase. Since then he has lived in the Southern Mountains. He currently makes his living by hunting, selling hides, home-made clothes and trinkets to the locals, in exchange for tools and food. He has sometimes crossed the King's grounds at the risk being caught and losing a hand or at least a large sum of money. However, up until this point it seems like the king has enough game not to take any notice of a certain poacher. Rumours about Da-Hyuni diplomats visiting the capitol for the upcoming festival, have led Marcus to find his way from the wilds to the capital for the first time in three long years. Personality/motivation: Marcus is a rather calm person, who generally prefers silence over company. He won't tell just anyone about his past and he tends to be a slightly mistrusting towards strangers (like all Da-Hyunin). It's really hard to make him angry, with the exception of commenting on his feminine appearance. That is usually enough to make steam come out of his ears. Presently, only the idea of returning to Da-Hyun one day to take revenge on the murderers of his family really gives him a goal in life. He's a rather curious person and if fate had decided differently, he might have become a scholar instead of a exile. Relations: Sworn Enemy: All Da-Hyuni nobility. Final Point - Secrets: Besides the obvious (and intended) gap in his history concerning how, why and by whom his family was murdered, Marcus carries another, older secret with him. [Which is completely lore-friendly so I'm not sharing it with my fellow gms :p] Theme Song:
-------------------------------
Name:"Shin" Age: 25 Gender: Male Faction/Allegiance: Da-Hyun and the Yuushinto Clan Relic Description: Shin's relic is a white mask which can change into three forms, depending either on what he wants others to see or on which power he's using. It possesses mostly the same powers as the Vocator's leader but as that mask can only be worn by females, this one can only be bonded with males. The mask constantly emits a radiant, white light. It's impossible for its evoker to take it off and if it is removed, the evoker will die. The basic principle around which the relic works is the manipulation of the energy and light. The mask provides three different types of powers, which all cost the evoker something. Powers: Boosting- The relic allows the evoker to manipulate the energy in his own body, making it possible to increase his speed, strength, and agility. To make use of this 'power', the evoker will have to use the energy in his own body, resulting in accelerated increase of fatigue or hunger. How much energy has to be used for this power, depends entirely on the level of control the user has. Sense others- The body's energy can also be used to sense the peculiar vibe other relicusers give off. This however can only work when both evokers aren't in full motion and if the mask's user is fully concentrated. To 'activate' this power, a small offer of human blood is required, either of the mask's evoker or of somebody else. This has to be smeared over the mask, the more blood, the better the effect. Invisibility- The mask allows the evoker to manipulate the light surrounding him. Hereby he can make himself (almost) invisible and Shin uses this power to constantly manipulate the bright light the mask gives off. With some extra effort, objects close to the evoker can also be made invisible, though that is extra tiring. This 'power' works entirely on focus and the evoker's own energy, much like the boosting power. Appearance: Flaws: All for Da-Hyun - As stated below, Shin has never learned to think as an individual and due to this, he suffers from a tunnel vision. Usually, even if actions would be better for other people, even when it comes to the ones he loves or himself, Shin wil choose for the 'good of the realm', not seldom resulting in him knowingly putting his own life and that of others in danger. Shiny - The fact that his mask constantly emits a bright light would be a problem if Shin forgets to manipulate the light for a moment. Shining bright like a ... guidepost isn't exactly what a spy should be going for, isn't it? Too educated for his own good- Shin sometimes has trouble mixing in with the 'common people', seeing how he was educated by some of the best trainers in Da-Hyun. From a young age on, the children of the Yuushinto clan are trained to look past class differences, but to Shin it's more difficult to shroud certain customs and a 'high-class accent' in boorishness than it is to shroud his body in shadows. Out of energy- If he uses too much of his energy or is injured too badly or too often, both the boosting power and the invisibility will no longer work. Seeing how Shin has trained with his relic for twenty years, this won't happen that fast, but let's say that if he gets stuck in a city which is being invaded, he walks around completely invisible for a couple of hours, gets into some fights and finally makes himself and his friend invisible for another hour, he might end up incapable of even moving until he eats a lot and sleeps for a few days. Skills: Poison brewer - Shin posesses over an extensive knowledge concerning poisons and plants. His speciality is brewing poisons, but he is also able to give some first aid or brew a potion with minor healing abilities. However, he's more familiar with Da-Hyuni flora and he will only be capable of properly using a small amount of local plants when outside his homeland. As a solution to this problem, he always carries a small amount of Da-Hyuni plants and herbs with him. One with the shadows- Even without the relic's power, Shin is trained to make himself practically invisible, either by using the play of light and shadows or to simply mingle in with a crowd by use of a disguise. Talented Swordsman- Shin is a Third grade Kenjian (Weapon Master), meaning that he knows quite a deal about how to use swords and other weapons. However, he usually doesn't have to make use of that skill. When he does, he prefers to use his twin swords, a few throwing knives and three short blades. Large Knowledge- Due to his long and harsh education, Shin has some knowledge regarding a lot of subjects. He is familiar with the detailed history of Western Azukhar and knows a thing or two about The Kalesian Empire and the eastern lands. He speaks various languages, though he clearly has an accent, on which he's still working. Biography: Shin was born into the Yuushinto Clan, a secret organization in Da-Hyun devoted to The Shadow Ways, the god Amatsu (the god of shadows) and "The Realm". The Mask has been passed down the family, since it is said that The Mask gave the first Yuushinto the power to create the nation of Da-Hyun and help the High Saeng rule it. It was custom that every son born into the family had to wear the mask at the age of five for a year and a day, to see if the relic would be evoked. When Shin put the mask on, the relic immediately responded to him, resulting in him never being able to take it off since. From that time on, for the first time in over two hundred years, the family once again had an evoker amongst them. Shin automatically held a higher position than his family members and trained to use his relic in service of the Realm. Since the organization usually acts as a spy network for the current High Saeng (High King), Shin was trained to be an assassin and spy inside the large family estate until he was of age. At the age of fifteen, Shin had to perform his first mission and he has continued to fulfil missions ever since. Sometimes killing people, sometimes simply learning useful information. He's currently in Othea on a mission to keep an eye on the representatives and in the meantime learn useful information about the country and unravel as much secrets as possible that could be used against it. After all, it's wise to know your enemies' weaknesses as well as your friends'. Personality/motivation: Shin is a cold, observant man who (thinks he) knows which should be his priorities and when to sacrifice things for a greater good. He has simply never really learned to think as an individual. All he does should be in service of Da-Hyun. He has the small personal desire to ever meet other relic users to see what they are like, but he'll never act upon this if it's not in service to the realm. Relations: The Yuushinto Clan is one family, of which nine clanmembers are currently alive (five of them are capable of executing missions). Besides this, the family has a large network of spies and informants in cities all over Azukhar. Final Point - Secrets: - Theme Song:
