The sun rose high over the land of Astaoviel signaling the beginning of a new day. A large black wolf stood over the sleeping form of the Lord of House Sonrah and nudged him gently, urging him awake. Alzack Sonrah's eyes snapped opened as he found them locked into the ice blue orbs of loyal War Wolf, Artemisia. "Good morning girl. Today is the day then?" The wolf nodded, as he got to his feet truly showing the immense size difference between a War Wolf and a human being. Alzack reached up to pet her muzzle. "Then let us go then." He got ready and strapped on his black armor and his swords. Before he, followed by Artemisia exited the room and into the hall where he found his mother, Serara Sonrah.

"Good morning my Lord." She said with mischievous smile. Alzack hugged her and laughed. "I wish you wouldn't call me that, Mother." The woman smiled warmly as she hugged him. "It is what you are my dear boy. Your father would be so proud of you." She tensed as soon as she mentioned her deceased husband and he looked in the eyes. "I will have vengeance for hi death Mother. I promise you that." He didn't know if that truly comforted her but she smiled and nodded. "I'm sure you will my son. I came to tell you that the preparations are complete to receive the dignitaries, they should be arriving soon." Alzack released her from the hug. "Then I should be prepared to greet them...Be well Mother." Alzack and Artemisia exited the castle and walked to the castle foregrounds in anticipation of his guests who would hopefully become his allies in this coming rebellion.

A cool breeze swept through the castle of Ravendore. In the high elf bathing chambers stood the Queen, Vera, and her daughter, Princess Aleia. Their maids stood silently, holding towels for the two bathing royals. They were in thigh deep water and the mother stood behind her child, rubbing her shoulders.

"I am so proud of you my sweet. So beautiful you are. Your ebony hair like raven wings." Vera mused, running slim fingers down her daughter's arms, then her waist. Aleia stood quietly as her mother fawned over her. A small bell chimed and two elven maids poured warm water over the heads of their mistresses. "Are you ready, my dear child?" Vera asked.

"Yes mother." Aleia said softly.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

An hour later they were in the air, inside a carriage carried by ravens so big that even the largest of war horses were put to shame. They flew with twenty of so giant ravens, each mounted by a knight of the royal guard. They landed before the Sonrah estate and the giant birds dissipated into smaller ones that flew up so high they were nothing more than small black dots.

The queen and princess exited their carriage and were escorted inside, their troop surrounding them.

Alzack and Artemisia bowed as Queen Vera and Princess Aleia of House Ravendore entered through the castle gates surrounded by their guard. His own guard bowed shortly after they shut the gate. A singer and band began to recite House Ravendore's theme as the Ravendore guard began to settle inside the castle. "Welcome Queen Vera and Princess Aleia of Ravendore, I thank you for accepting the invitation."

Queen Vera smiled, black eye crinkling with age at the edges. "It is my pleasure." She said with a curtsy. "I hope it is not too much trouble that I bring my daughter as well. She is at that age where learning council politics is very important." The Queen's very essence seemed to ebb with motherly tenderness with briars underneath.

Princess Aleia bowed deeply. "It is a pleasure to be here, Lord Sonrah." The princess had a look about her that was somewhat detached, as though her mind was elsewhere.

This land seemed so different - or rather this part of the land, which was not the mountain filled east. Gone was the bitter cold and the smog caused by the countless forges of Iron Mountain. Gone were the simpleminded people with their simple and practical views of the world. The massive steel carriage rumbled forwards, pulled by four horses - made of black metal and etched with runes of Kardovian arcana.

Inside the carriage sat a man on a large throne like contraption - an old man some might call him, after all he was past his mid fifties. Signs of aging were beginning to show on his face - though he'd probably live for at the very least another 30 years before his age would begin to really affect him - after all the Kardovians were quite long lived, the oldest of them being in his mid 120's and still instructing the younger folks about proper forging.

The man was Azar Kardov, the Lord Engineer of house Kardov, the Lord of Iron Mountain and owner of few other less grandiose and less polite titles and nicknames. In his youth he was Azar the Warmonger to some, or the upstart of Kardov - nowadays the mention of those past titles just made the old man smile, oftentimes with sincere amusement. Often the smile would be paired with a dry and witty - sometimes a tad bit rude - remark.

Azar had travelled for days - it had felt like months to him - alone in his carriage of steel, enjoying the sights as much as he could from the relative comfort and warmth of his magnificent little fortress of steel. Occasionally he suffered from nasty bouts of coughing - probably caused by the noxious fumes and smog of the forges he had been operating since the age of 10. Many other Kardovians suffered from the same affliction, it did not spare the young or the old, rich or poor. Azar's metallic hand moved to cover his mouth as another coughing fit racked his body. He checked the palm for droplets of blood and sighed in relief for the lack of blood - usually when a Kardovian began coughing blood their death was close. The old man smiled faintly. He knew full well that the time spent away from the Iron Mountain did only good for his condition - fresh air and something else to eat than mammoth meat and ale to drink would make him feel young again in no time.

The steel carriage rumbled forwards and finally stopped at the gates of Rainamere - the home of house Sonrah. Azar steadied himself for a moment and began reciting a spell to wake up the statues that circled the sides of his carriage - depicting a part of an old relief about some battle or other which had been forgotten to the flow of time.

As the 12 metallic warriors - four of which had earlier been the horses, but which had transformed to resemble knights with horrible creaking - took their positions around the carriage it's metal began to creak and twist - opening up to reveal the Lord Engineer sitting on his walking throne. His hands were spread to the sides and his face was etched with signs of fatigue from using his arcana in such a showy display. He lowered his metallic hand on the armrest of his throne and hid his left arm under a rather warm looking wool cloak. The walking throne stepped down from the heap of scrap that had moments earlier been a very fine carriage.

The sun was finally up, somewhere, half way to the Sonrah's territory there were two people and a huge black horse camping.
The sweet meldoy of a flute could be heard from very far way due to the silence of the morning but suddenlt stopped
"My darling...You have been awake and training all night...shouldn't you sleep a little before we continue moving?" Zhen Ji asked with a kind yet worried voice.
"You know that we demons do not need to sleep, dear." Cao pi asnwered as he practiced the demonic martial arts the Cao house was so proud of.
After a few minutes more of traing Cao Pi stopped and looked at his wife "There is a river near, let's take a bath before resuming our march.
The young wife blushed and nodded.
After the bath they both got on the horse's back and rided to Alzack's castle, Zhen Ji , as a teen in love hugged his husband's back with a warm smile.
"Finally here.." Cao Pi said when they arrived

“C’mon, Bertha, faster!” Wilhelm screamed, spurring his mount. Arrows flew towards Wilhelm and his two cousins, missing their mark by mere inches. He gripped his pollaxe tightly while whispering an incantation to create a small force field to cover his backside. The curse of royal blood had its perks. "Hyah!"

“There’s a forest ahead!” Frederick screamed, “We’ll lose ‘em in there!” Wilhelm’s cousins Frederick and Roger were more like brothers than anything. They had been raised in the same house, been sent to war under the same captain, and watched their family murdered before them by the king’s men. They knew his secret, but could bare him no ill will, for they had all suffered equally from the wrath of the king’s men. They had four sellswords with them when they had walked into town, but two were slaughtered, and the other two turned on them when they learned of the massive bounty placed on Wilhelm’s head. At least they would not have to pay them.

“Aye!” Roger and Wilhelm screamed in unison, splitting up. They were able to lose their pursuers in the woods, then double back and return to a town that they had passed previously. They would need to leave the kingdom, of course; running like this would only lead to an eventual and gruesome end. They had been through this several times before, though, and were able to meet up at the milling town of Westwood. Roger had received a minor scratch from a low-hanging branch, but there were no serious injuries, and Roger already had many scars covering his visage. Of course, he’d received most of these defending his younger cousin and brother.

“Nobody’s died yet,” Frederick stated as they walked their horses to the stable outside the nearest tavern, “So that’s good news.” Ever the optimistic one, he was. These were not the king’s men who were chasing him. They were common mercenaries, looking to make a buck off of his bounty. They did not have the same urgency in their task, and could pursue other targets if they so wished.

As he sat down at a table in the corner, Wilhelm listened intently to the rumours that the peasants were whispering. Supposedly, in this very forest, a group of prominent leaders of the rebellion were going to be holding a meeting to discuss their strategy. He could not go with the king’s men pursuing him, and he did not want to: this could have easily been a trap of sorts. Perhaps the rebels wished to exchange his head for their independence, or use him as a hostage during negotiations, or force him into marriage so that some noble house could claim the throne as their own.

The group rode on towards the Iron Mountain Range to hide among the grand fortresses of House Kardov and Lazarel. They had adopted a policy of neutrality, and Wilhelm hoped that they would not tolerate a manhunt. He was unsure if the guards would recognize him. If they did, they were unlikely to permit entry to a wanted criminal. Detainment was a possibility, and execution another, but their party was running out of options…

The Castle Lazarel was in full lights, music and laughter. It was the 18th birthday of Urt Lazarel, the youngest son of Kaligak Lazarel, the Hamheart, Grand Ruler and Master Chef of the Hamheart Clan. Today Urt became a man in the books of all the fellow clansmen and today he would also assume the role of Guard Captain of the village around the castle. Urt and his elder brothers Gallath, Hark and Pomir are all seated on the sides of their father and all the men of the family raise their tankards and reach to knock them against each other with great strength and cheer, mead splatters down on the table filled with mammoth meat, potatoes, cheeses and different breads, but that bothers no one as everyone are having such a great time eating, drinking and most importantly, singing.

Meat, wheat, mead and potatoes! Cheeses, creams, breads and tomatoes! Eat, drink, peel the potatoes! Slice 'em up and mix with tomatoes! Take some meat, sink it to cream! Stuff your mouth it tastes like dream! Drink some mead, take the lead, eat, drink, live for the meat! Cut that meat, praise the mead, bless the mountains and bless the wheat!"

The scouts on the village's watchtowers observed the approaching riders calmly, and then nod their heads, signaling a runner to head to the castle. It wasn't like they would not let them in, if they would see through the trouble climbing up all the way here, but the people in the castle, and especially the freshly entitled Guard Captain would probably like to know what would be coming to their way. Possibly.

Flying was not apart of Laharal's repertoire, it made him sick and he almost vomited, but he managed to keep it down and focus. After what seemed to be forever, they landed in the courtyard of castle Astaoviel, Laharl dismounted and awaited the queen and princess to emerge from their carriage when they did he fell in behind them, and followed them into the castle like their shadow.

Gorbash and his soon to be wife walked towards the halls that made there destination, despite aching feet and tired bodies they refused to back down, neither showing a bit of incompetence to prove themselves worthy to the other, a similar love hate in there eyes as they walked into the new place to meet with the others in order to discuss the war as they presumes, something they dreaded as it had already turned a great profit to them, but to be limited as they were sure would happen was a great cutback on there already unlavish lives. To them war was nothing more than money that feeds the horde, coins meant nothing but more meals for there stomachs and armor that they practically wore as skin, the very armor they wore to the meeting. "I assume that we will be meeting with the other warrior guild" Gorbash muttered in a deep and hateful voice, his wife looking to him and frowning. "they are not to be called 'guilds' but rather houses, and yes they will be here" she replied coldly, for a married couple they seemed ungrateful to each other but they always found love, when sparring of together at night, it was a silent love. Gorbash pondered before raising his head to speak. "perhaps we shall find a treaty with th" he was stopped by his wife yet again. "there will be no such talk, we are here for one thing and on only" she spoke as they neared the speaking room. "business" she nodded before walking and taking her seat, the male orc behind her, they both looked as if they were ready to slaughter at any moment.

"It is perfectly alright Queen Vera, My father was of a similar mindset when it came to me.." Alzack bowed to the Aleia. "The honors is ours princess. I hope you enjoy your stay." Before the band could even start playing the theme of House Kardov to alert him to their arrival, he heard the strange whirring sound of the Magitek automatons that the Kardov's were famous for. Coming in behind Lord Kardov was Cao Pi, the Lord of House Cao. Artemisia sniffed one of the mechanical knights curiously as Alzack greeted the new arrivals.. "Lord Kardov, Lord and Lady Cao. Thank you for coming."

Wilhelm and co. walked their horses inside the gate. For now, they would be safe from harm at the hands of the various bands of murderers who were constantly pursuing him. These past few weeks had been hell on earth for the trio, and Wilhelm was glad to finally have respite from the constant violence that surrounded them. The village of The group had some money on them, mostly taken from men who'd underestimated them and met their ends at Wilhelm's pollaxe or Roger's longsword. The House of Lazarel was renowned for its food, and they were more than eager to see if their cooking skill was as widespread among their peasantry. They settled on a nice, homely-looking inn run by a stout old woman and her husband. A bit of silver secured them three bowls of hardy, rich mammoth stew with chunks of meat in it, as well as a loaf of bread to split between the three of them. Ale was free; it was a special occasion, though Wilhelm hadn't a clue what it was. Regardless, it was one of the most delicious meals he had ever tasted.

As they were eating, Wilhelm overheard a group of smallfolk speaking further down their table. "A toast to the new Captain of the Guard, Urt Lazarel! May he never have need to do his job!" A bout of laughter followed, with precious little actual toasting. Wilhelm smiled. I'll stay here for as long as I can, he thought, I'll change my name, maybe, and wait here until the war's done and over with. It was then he noticed a bard tuning a lute in a corner.

"Attention, ladies and gentlemen!" The bard was glad in mammoth fur, and wore gloves of fine leather. Perhaps he had won them in a bet or poker game. "This particular tale has been spreading throughout the land like wildfire, and has finally found its way to the tip if the Iron Mountains! I give you, the Ballad of Royal Bastards."

Wilhelm nearly choked on his stew. He had heard the song far too many times before in rebel-friendly lands, and more often than not, the head of the bard who had sang it was displayed on a pike outside the charred remains of the tavern the following morning.

First was Sir Ridley,
A knight brave and strong,
A noble born mother, and a lover of song,
He dared raise a question to the Tyrant but instead
of giving and answer the king chopped off his head!
Oh, oh, he chopped off his head!

Wilhelm found it far too uplifting for a song about murder and death. He sunk down in his seat as the bard slowed his playing slightly. It was still a joyful tune, but it now had an ominous element to it.

Then came fair Matilda,
A maid sweet and kind,
She wore a white dress and wore flowers in her hair,
Locked herself in her tower, to grieve for her kin,
But the tyrant did find her, stuck a sword through her chin!
Oh, oh, stuck a sword through her chin!

The last line of the verse was sung in unison with some of the restaurant's patrons, in a way that made chills run down Wilhelm's spine. Again the bard began to play slower. Now the song was starting to sound just utterly tragic, and this particular verse was: even moreso than the rest.

Third was little Lily,
Naught more than a babe,
Too young to know she would soon be in her grave,
Her mother did struggle, Her mother did fight,
But a child was nonetheless murdered that night.
Oh, poor Lily, murdered in the night.

Wilhelm let his elbows rest on the table. Now was the final verse...

Last is staunch Wilhelm,
A peasant like you,
With no coin to his name and nothing to lose,
But that one fateful day when the king's men came by...
As many bards often did at this point in the song, he took a dramatic pause...

He gripped his sickle in two hands and he said...
In the name of brave Ridley, you chopped off his head,
In the name of fair Matilda, who you murdered in bed,
In the name of little Lily, whose poor mother cried,
I am Wilhelm the Bastard, and I choose you to die!
Oh, oh, I choose you to die!

The entire tavern screamed the last line in unison as the bard moved onto the last verse of the ballad...

Goodbye, to Sir Ridley, Lady Matilda too,
Goodbye to young Lily, whom we hardly knew,
But hold onto hope, for there's one still alive,
He's Wilhelm, the man who's too stubborn to die!

The entire tavern erupted into applause and laughter. Wilhelm was flattered by the praise, though the story was only half-true. First and foremost, the king had sent only three assassins after him, as they did not anticipate that he would have any sort of combat experience. Second, Wilhelm's cousins aided him in his fight and subsequent retreats. Thirdly, he had used his pollaxe to deliver the killing blows to two of the three guards, whereas Roger had killed the third one. Perhaps the most important difference was that Wilhelm had quite a bit of gold -- at least for a peasant -- from collecting the spoils of war during the conquests of the Tyrant King. What really worried the bastard was that things were expected of him. The people wanted a hero to praise, who would rally and army to rise up and slay the tyrant king, whereas Wilhelm wanted no part in it. Peasants seemed to support him well enough, due to his background, but most noble houses saw him as either a nuisance or a bargaining chip. Best to stay out of it entirely.

Wilhelm, Roger and Frederick sat there finishing their meals, taking in the sights and sounds around them. Though the Flowers Brothers were enjoying themselves, Wilhelm was beginning to feel uneasy again.

Azar smiled - it was a kind and quite warm smile, without feigned politeness. "It is a pleasure to meet some of the younger lords - not to mention the ladies." He bowed his head to the other lords and led his Magitek entourage to the courtyard. "I'm glad to get any chance to leave my home nowadays - the Iron Mountain is admittedly not a very good place for one's health." The Lord Engineer's metallic hand gripped tightly at his armrest. "Sadly the Lazarel folk had more..." He paused for a moment and let out a little laugh "...Interesting business to attend to. Their youngest son has come of age - great celebrations." The walking throne turned slightly so he'd see the gate and the lord and lady Cao. "Humble greetings from the east, Lord Cao."

Alzack nodded. It was definitely a shame that the Lazarel were not here for the meeting but he would figure something else out for them. "I am truly gladdened that you all accepted my invitation. If you would follow me into the meeting room, where House Nebudchinezzar already waits. We can get straight to business. Afterwards I have a feast being prepared in honor of the presences of so many of the Great Houses in Rainamere." He and Artemisia turned around and entered the castle leading the House heads to the meeting room.

Queen Vera and Princess Aleia both greeted the new comers with a smile before following Alzack into the castle to begin the meet. It was easy to see how different the two women were. The Queen walked facing forward and proud, almost haughty, but also elegant. Aleia on the other hand was more reserved. She walked straight, however this was her first time, in quite some time, seeing the Sonrah palace. She looked and turned at everything, this low land was so much different than the mountains that she couldn't help it.

After a long night of celebrating another vessel having return from a delivery on an extremely dangerous trading route Henrik had
finally rolled in his bed while underneath of his bearskin blanket. When he opened his eyes the sunlight was spilling into his room from the large door that had been left open from the night previous. He stretched both arms out and noticed that there was one more person in the bed than normally there. Neither were dressed and only one was supposed to be there; the first was his wife Viola, the second was an extremely gorgeous redhead whom Henrik had never seen before in his life. Confused he got out of his bed and walked over to the open door leading to his balcony after put on some underclothing, everything looked fine towards the market and docks which is exactly how Henrik liked to start his day. Next was to figure out how to explain how this scenario had happened. While running his hands through his hair he heard a voice coming from behind him. Viola was the one speaking "Henrik come back to bed, give our company a little present before she continues on her travels" When he turned around both women were sitting up staring at him, gesturing playfully for him to come over. How could Henrik deny a request from his wife.

After seeing his guest off (still not knowing her name or where she had come from) and having a bath Henrik decided that he should
go over to the headquarters to go over the final manifest from the successful delivery. While walking slowly up the road on the way to the headquarters, one of his loyal associates was sprinting towards him, still confused about the morning and not paying attention he moved to the right to allow him to get by. When he stopped right in front of him he realized who it was. Half out of breathe he handed Henrik a letter " This ... this ... arrived by raven ... last night ... didn't want to spoil ... your evening" Henrik took the rolled letter from his associate and turned it over to reveal a seal on it. The instant he seen the seal this his face went scarlet red, shaking with anger within a split second his associate was on the ground and Henrik had blood on his knuckles. Great just bloody great, after reading it over while walking to HQ the letter was for a council meeting scheduled for today. Of course it was for today, what a way to put a damper on an excellent start to his day.

After calling a Malsiprius house meeting an gathering all of associates and royal members of the house Henrik was going to get to
the bottom of why the letter " only arrived yesterday" and why he wasn't informed sooner. After sitting down his father said that the raven looked like it had a injured wing, which would explain why it never arrived earlier since there is always a reasonable amount of notice. After the house meeting was over Henrik grabbed a piece of parchment and ink and sat down to start writing an apology & update letter. How Henrik wishes he could just rewind and be lying in his bed again.

The feast in the castle was still going on when the runner arrived, he informed the royal bodyguard of the new arrivals. The singing and eating continued as the bodyguard informed the great Hamheart about them too, and the Hamheart laughs hearthily at the news and whispers something to the bodyguard. He looks mildly stunned, but nods his head then and turns back to the runner giving him few orders and some meat. The runner bows and leaves the room, munching on the meat, leaving the music and food behind him.

It did not take that long until the runner, accompanied by two men from the town watch to arrive to the inn. The men look around until the noticed the new arrivals and made their way over to them. The runner steps forth and bows slightly before speaking up."Good day to you travelers. We could not but to notice your arrival to our village. You must be worn and weary from your travels. Therefore, our Lord Hamheart has invited all three of you into his castle to join the feast, it is his son's 18th birthday and we have been told to escort you there. He steps back and takes a look at one of the watchmen who steps forward and offers the three men three mammoth pelt cloaks."Might get cold up there for you normal people" He explains and laughs slightly."And if not, you can always get some coin by selling them, somewhere else that is, not like they'd run dry here anytime soon" He laughs again and few others join him, clearly eavesdroppers are not dead from this part of world either, especially if it has something to do with guardsmen.

"... The... the lord of the land is inviting us to eat at his table?" Wilhelm swallowed a bite of stew-soaked bread and turned to Roger. Damn it. This was it. Someone had recognized him, and Lord Hamheart was going to claim his bounty. They couldn't run away or try and fight these guards; they a foot taller than them, and much better armed. They had no choice but to go with them.

"Ehm... yes, just... let me... uhm..." Wilhelm reached into his pocket, pulled out some silver and laid it on the table to pay for their meal. He took one last massive bite of stew, while Roger took the remainder of the bread. Roger and he said nothing, but Frederick was chatting it up with the guards as if he had known them for years. All of them had went to war, but Frederick's initiative and leadership had earned him a spot among a lords' personal guard. He was the kind of soldier to pick up his officer's officer's helmet after he was cut down by a knight, kill the knight, then lead his squad back to safety. He had actually done that. If Frederick was the royal bastard, there would certainly be more than just one song about him.

"Thank you for the coats," Wilhelm said on their way to the keep, "I... uh... I've never dined with nobility before."

"We gonna try to bail...?" Roger whispered to Wilhelm, "Don't suppose we could just politely decline?"

"Very funny, Roger..." WIlhelm prepared a spell under his new coat, which would create a flash of light large enough to blind everyone in the room temporarily. "I'm whipping up a flash spell. I'll give the usual signal when I'm ready."

The runner nods his head and turns around."Oh and in case some sort of trouble should arise, we have placed few guardsmen outside just in that case." He smiles softly and starts his walk towards the out door, the two guardsmen eagerly join the little chitchat for the moment, before the noticed that their small break was over and begun escorting the trio outside, seemingly bored and slightly annoyed that others were having great time while they were stuck outside.

"Now that we are all here.." The runner turns and flashes another smile, he too is rather large man in all Mountain Human trademark ways."I am sure that you have many creative ways of escaping and trickering your way out of here." He speaks calmly."But would you really willingly commit such an insult to bail out from Lord Hamheart's royal feast invitation? To you normal people that would be at the least comparable to cheat on dear wife with your own sister." He explains and gets laugh out from the friendly, yet quite intimidating guards, they all seem to be wearing their thick helmets and plated aprons with barely breaking a sweat, while normal man could barely wield any of them."Now young sire, I can by my personal honor assure you, that you will only join our Lord to celebrate his son's birthday feast, and after that you are free to go wherever you please. Of course, if you so wish, you can leave the village in some daring escape act, but I was informed that you would, possibly, be in a need of mercenary proof shelter for a moment or two...do correct me if my sources have been misleading me." He finishes and bows his head slightly, the guards around the three men are not doing anything that would signal them even thinking about arresting Wilhelm nor his cousins, instead of that they seem to be lazing around as much as possible, and two of them are having really intense "rock paper scissors" going on as the runner spoke.
