The city of Layton. The capital of the country of the golden coast. For 300 years it had been like this. The rich and noblemen lived in this city. Their cars, fireplaces, elevators, all worked on magic. But they all required a user's magic energy to work. And the common people couldn't afford to learn magic. Lessons were very expensive. That is, until one man started to make a name for himself. Professor Ultan Black, he was called. The man was very quickly recognized as a genius. At first he researched magic for himself, becoming one of the strongest wizards in history in only 15 years. The rich were already not happy with this commoner becoming so powerful, but the real problems started after that. Ultan started researching magic that could be used by anyone. For the first 5 years after being recognized as one of the strongest wizards in history, there was no word from him again. But then suddenly he appeared a few miles outside of Layton, at the nearest commoner village. The man had opened a school. And not just any school. A school for magic, open for anyone. And it didn't teach them magic, but rather how to use the new devices he had made. These devices contained a certain amount of magic on their own, able to work for a full year before being depleted. It made magic usable for anyone. This went on for another 5 years. But then the rich decided to step in. This man was getting too influential, and they feared that they would lose their power over the people.

Ultan was summoned to Layton. Then for a full month no one heard of him. Even the school had been closed for that time. But then things started to change once again. The rich started to build schools in several other towns as well, and teachers came with them. No one knew for sure what had made the rich change their minds, but they all suspected it was because of Ultan Black. He had probably made some kind of deal with them. No one complained, as now everyone got to make their lives easier with magic. 10 years passed, and society as a whole blossomed. Ultan came into the public eye again as one of 3 of the nation's top researchers. And everyone seemed happy. But then it happened. Suddenly Layton was overrun by magical monsters, destroying and killing everything and everyone they saw. It was like an army was invading.
"Master! How could this have happened! You said- You said this gate would get you closer to the ultimate magic! " Ramiel exclaimed. He was currently running after his master Ultan. They had been at ground zero, when the containment field shattered and the gate suddenly burst open. A fight had ensued. Most of the monsters were weak, but sheer numbers had still managed to get the better of the two of them. The other two researchers present had already been killed. "We don't have time now, Ramiel! I won't let all of my research go to waste!" "...Master?" "My wounds...I can hold on for a while longer, but there's only so much even my magic can do..." "What- Don't tell me you're..."

But there was no time to be emotional now. The monsters would soon overrun the city so they had to hurry. They entered the house, and quickly headed to the basement. The walls were filled with glyphs, and a large magical circle was drawn on both the ground and the ceiling. Near the door stood a table, with on it a single item. A hairpin. It was the item that summoned and bound Ramiel to Ultan. As every familiar has an item that keeps it in material form. Though unlike most familiars, he was modified in one way. He would only ever take orders from Ultan, no matter whom was in possession of the hairpin. "What are you planning...?" Ramiel asked, feeling like this was going to be a goodbye forever.

"Not to worry, Ramiel. Have faith in your master. This spell is almost impossible to pull off, and forbidden to make it worse. But this is me we're talking about. You know I can do it." The man turned to Ramiel and smiled a little bit. Blood was already coming out of his mouth, and the stump left after his arm had been torn off had started bleeding again. Ultan was near the limits of what he could do to postpone his death. "You have served me well for these past 15 years. But this body is weakening fast. You know what I'm about to do, so I'll give you these final orders. I will seal you into your hairpin. A seal which can only be broken in my presence. Whomever I may become, serve them just as you have done for me." Ramiel looked down, saddened. He didn't want to see his master go, but he couldn't disobey orders either. "Very well..." What else could he say, really? The public saw this man as their saviour before this incident. But the man was incredibly strict, and wouldn't tolerate disobedience. Moments later everything went black for Ramiel as he was sealed in the hairpin.
The catastrophe was finally contained after 2 days. Many people had lost their lives, and Layton was in ruins. The rich were suddenly left without their city, and the government they had set up crumbled. During the next 10 years, the country was in disarray. The commoners didn't want the rich to get their power back, and the rich didn't want commoners to have power. But finally a compromise was made. A new government, partially made up of the rich that were left and partially made up of the commoners, was created. And slowly things started to return to normal again. 90 years later, and the accident all those years ago has been named "The first clash." The world knows that a second one could happen, so even a special bureau has been set up to prevent another clash between humans and magical monsters from happening. This bureau now owns a history of magic museum, though it's more a warning to what could happen if you take magic too far. In this building, there is one room dedicated to Ultan Black, the man said to have been the cause of the accident. And in this room, in one of the side cabinets, lies his familiar's hairpin. Rumours have been going around the city of New Layton for many years now that one day Ultan will reincarnate, and will show themselves before the hairpin. And that only then, the king of the lightning elementals will reveal himself once more. Some fear that day might happen. Others hope for it to happen. Some don't really care. And then there are also ones that are actively looking for this person. To revive Ultan Black.

Adamaris patted the last bit of powder over her makeup to seal it on and make sure her mark would be covered out of habit, but she forgot that to today she wouldn’t have to cover herself up but for the sake of her family she pretended like today was another average day. Her tight blue jeans and black crew neck shirt accented her hips and made her look casual with her striking colored hair and bright emerald eyes. She met with her family downstairs where they all took their separate departures, and she waited patiently to be the last to leave since she had to go the opposite way she was used to. Today she would attend Blackwell college, the school of magic. After years of not understanding what she was capable of, today would be the day where it all changes.

Once she was far enough down the sidewalk, she pulled out a few makeup wipes and began to smear away the coat that had hidden the sapphire symbol that sat on her forehead. The people who had ever seen her marking found it strikingly beautiful, others found it too much and ugly. To each their own, but Ada didn’t really know how she felt about it either. After hiding it all her life, the constant stares down the street began to make her uneasy in which she quickened her pace to the college. Her first class was terminologies of basic magic, and then her second class would be history of the well-known mages, they were taking a field trip downtown to the local museum of the city.
By the end of her first class her head was spinning, she had heard about these things in books but when it came in to detail there was just so much of it she had no idea how she was going to keep up. There were differences in elemental magic, and manipulation, and spells, and other mages. She could only wonder what category she would lay under. She rushed to her next class but watched the other students who had passed her by, they all looked unique in their own ways. Some had markings like her, some were ridiculously good looking while others were half decent. Walking in to class they quickly took roll and then loaded the small school bus that crammed about fifty students together.

She had sat by another girl whose name was Alizah. They both talked about how new they were to the school, yet Alizah had a far better understanding of her own powers then Adamaris. She also couldn’t understand why Ada had no common sense over her powers, or had ever tried on her own. “My parents just didn’t allow it, since all my brothers and sisters were normals.” Ada shrugged but Alizah still looked at her in disbelief, which made Ada frown in disappointment in herself.
“Hey, it’s okay. We all start somewhere.” She tried to warm up the conversation again as the bus arrived to the entrance of the museum. “I’m so excited! I heard that they have a line of dresses, Elizabeth the third wore to emit that she was indeed a mage.” Alizah shimmied a little bit in pride of the fallen princess whose fashion sense was incredible in her day and age.

“I’m excited to see some of Black’s work, I heard that hair pin that supposedly holds his familiar is here.” The girls leaned in to hear his statement as if it was some kind of secret. Ada was confused by everyone’s expression to hear that name and something about a hair pin. The bus quickly flooded of young adults and the professor soon began his rant as they made their way inside. The girls soon lost interest in his speech and wandered off on their own adventure, not like anyone would notice on the first day of class that they were missing.

They finally found the dresses Alizah was looking for while the boy they had spoken too earlier quickly made his escape as well. “I thought I was going to die.” Chase huffed as he awkwardly flung himself over the two’s shoulders where they laughed and pushed him off. So far this had been great, she had easily made new friends who got to see her for her. “Okay, now that we’ve seen these. Let’s go find that hairpin.” Chase winked back at the girls and began to twirl around the halls while the girls rolled their eyes and followed along. Every room was filled with enormous paintings and artifacts from previous days. Some of these small monsters that were covering a burning city, Ada’s eyes met with one of the pictures and she stopped midstride.

She slowly approached the picture of an abstract painting of a silhouette in distress while brightly covered monsters smothered him and this brilliantly colored bird soared in the background. The other two lingered in the back ground, still searching for this damn hairpin. Adamaris’s eyes shifted lower to read the caption before. “The Night, Before the Beginning” She read out loud before looking lower to see a small glass case with a single hair pin inside of it. “Hey I think I found that hair pin!”

The hairpin looked to be made of silver. Quite ordinary. Though the small yellow topaz jewel near the end looked incredible. A topaz was still considered one of the highest class magic containers, as the process of refining one was quite difficult. So it was an odd choice to put it on a simple silver hairpin. Though just as Adamaris looked at it, the gem started to glimmer. And then a moment later, it started to glow. The glow kept on getting brighter, until the little pin started to hover inside of the case. At this point Ada's two friends joined in to see the famous hairpin. "What's happening? Ada, did you touch it?" The Chase asked, thinking it might be a good idea to get out of there now.

But before he could say anything more the glass case lifted up, and without making a sound the hairpin floated out before the glass was put back in it's place. Immediately the hairpin then floated to Adamaris, landing in her hands. During all of this, something else had also started to happen. Small sparks started to form everywhere in the room, though everything was still silent. And then suddenly the crackling sound of electricity could be heard everywhere, just as the hairpin landed in Ada's hands. They all shot to the centre of the room, combining with each other and slowly forming into a person.

A young man had appeared. He looked to be only a year or two older than the students, and good looking as well. Not only that, but his expression looked serious, yet kind. Maybe happy even? During this time, both of Ada's classmates hadn't dared to move or say a word. Though then the young man that had just appeared did something none of them probably expected. He kneeled right before Adamaris' feet. "Master, you've kept your word. We finally meet again."

She looked closer at the pin and admired it's simple beauty, the stone was so shiny that it seemed to gleam.. and then grow brighter? She lifted her head to look at it from further away yet the stone still seemed to glitter brighter. She turned her head slightly as Chase asked her if she had touched it but she shook her head unable to take her eyes off of it. The whole group jumped back as the pin lifted on it's own and floated towards the group. Ada got a instinct feeling to lift our her hand and the pin gently landed against her palms which sent a warm flash throughout her body.

All three of them gawked at the hairpin until the crackling noise filled the room and the air rushed through the girl's hair. Their eye's shifted to the middle of the room where a young man appeared out of the electricity. The first one of them to say anything was Tiffany, "Woe.." The whole room fell silent again as the man b-lined for Adamaris and knelt down at her feet with a courteous bow.

"Master, you've kept your word. We finally meet again." Adamaris didn't realize she hadn't been breathing till she felt her head become lighter and lighter. Finally she let it out and with her empty hand she pressed it against her chest.

"I'm sorry? I'm no-" Chase stepped in and placed his hand on her shoulder, turning her to face him a bit. His face was concentrated but full of shock as well.

"Holy shit, Adamaris." Chase breathed out heavily taking a look at her. "That's freaking cool..." Adamaris shook her head and pushed away from Chase. Her eyes went from from to the other until she stared down at the mystery man.

"I- I'm not your master. I have no idea what is going on." She let out in huffs as she tried to keep herself from hyperventilating, and the other mages just didn't understand why she was freaking out. She had been living in a world where magic just didn't exist, and for the first time it just didn't seem real. She threw her hands in the air and they flopped against her thighs. "What is going on?" She asked desperately.

Ramiel frowned when he heard the girl's surprise at him calling her master. He slowly rose, looking seriously at her for a moment. "That means you aren't aware...?" Once again the man went silent for a moment before speaking up again. He didn't care about the other two also in the room. The forbidden spell hadn't been a guaranteed success and It had been a full hundred years since he had seen his one and only master after all. "You're shocked, master. I can understand that. But the seal on my hairpin can only be broken in the presence of his reincarnation. The pin even chose you once my seal was released." He pointed at the hairpin that Adamaris was still holding on to. Or to be precise, the hairpin that had been returned to it's rightful owner.

"I have to say even I'm surprised you're female..." Ramiel didn't have enough understanding of the forbidden spells to know how they worked exactly. So had this been Ultan's intention? Was that why he was bound to a hairpin instead of...well, anything else? Or was this all really just a coincidence, meaning that Ultan really did have a weird sense of humour? "But there is no mistaking it. You are Ultan Black's reincarnation, master."

No one could say anything as the man explained the situation. She shook her head, while Chase continued to gasp under excitement. "Oh my god, that is so cool." He had to lean on the wall to stop himself from hyperventilating. "That is soooo COOOLLL!" Everyone stared at him over his exaggeration. "Adamaris, you don't know the stories?" He turned and began to explain how things had happened in the past and why magic is the way it is now. "Ultan Black is The man. He is the one who started all of this! All of these stories, these paintings and artifacts are because of him! They said he disappeared a long time ago and those monsters had beaten the place to ashes but that hair pin!" He pointed to the pin Adamaris desperately held on to. "That hair pin was the only thing left!" He practically jumped around as he put the peaces together. "They never found the remains of him or his familiar and that's why! He had sealed himself!"

Adamaris's mouth was stuck open as the further explanation only seemed to make things more confusing. She had no idea how to use magic nor did she deserve to be a reincarnation of someone great. Her cheeks got warm as he mentioned to be surprised that she was a woman. "Wait I used to be a man?" She shook her head. "No, I used to be someone powerful. Th- That's impossible." She stepped back in embarrassment. "I- I don't even know what my powers are." The group looked at her in amazement. You never heard about people not knowing how to use their own powers, even if they didn't go to school they still taught their selves, but Adamaris had no clue what things she could do or if she could even do them.

"Never the less, you are who you are. There is nothing that can change it. Not knowing any magic only means you still need to learn, master. And even if you don't learn magic, you are the only one that could even command me. So at the very least you'll have a decent familiar now, right?" The man liked to stay humble, not wanting to attract enemies to him that wanted to fight just to see how strong he was exactly. He would probably try to hide his identity as well if at all possible. As, once someone knew who he was they also had a very good idea of how strong he was. "Though, if it is your wish, I will leave you alone. After all, your wish is my command." The man bowed slightly again, as a sign of respect. Even if this girl acted quite differently from Ultan Black, somewhere deep inside she had him inside of her as well.

Suddenly someone could be heard entering the room, their footsteps echoing through the halls. He looked like an older man, maybe the museum's curator? Or a security guard? Though he wasn't wearing any uniform. "To think this day would come during a simple college field trip..." The man mused, looking over the three. "Black's reincarnation..." The man stepped forwards a little and smiled. "I'm the museum's director. Though, to be more exact, I'm a government official, tasked to find you, miss. Not to worry though, I won't take you away or anything like that. My job is to just observe when you would appear." The man turned around, chuckling softly. "You'll be hearing from the government soon, Adamaris and Ramiel. Until then, I advise against making your identity public. Pretend he's just any old familiar. A family heirloom maybe? As it isn't far from the truth." The man was creepy as all hell. The way he talked, his tone of voice. It was like he was up to something. Yet all he was doing now, was walking away. After all he had completed his objective; find the identity of Ultan Black's reincarnation.

"This might be trouble..." Alizah muttered, chills going across her spine every time the man had spoken. "What should we do...?" A more accurate statement would be what Ada had to do, as they weren't the ones whom just had their entire world turned upside-down. Though it was at least a sign that they weren't about to abandon her over this.

Ada just stared at him as he continued to call her master. When he said that he could leave if she wished she stepped forward as if he was running away. "No, no. Don't leave. I'm just.. I need time to think. It's a lot to take in don't you think?" He had her at the thought of learning magic, if this man was beside one of the strongest maybe he'd be the best mentor to help her out of this rigid hole of unused potential. "There is just one problem.. Magic isn't allowed in my household. I thought a few classes would be easy to hide but I think if they find out who my-- new- familiar was they'd stroke out." She looked back to the group, not really sure how well this all was going to end out and whether it is still true or not. To hardly know yourself and then to be told you're someone else made life a bit unbelievable.

Her thoughts were interrupted as a man stepped out, with a gruesome smile across his face and a weird tick when he walked began to speak in the most horrendous tone. She stepped back in to the wall and gripped her forehead. "Great.. Now I really have no place to go." Her head became so dizzy that it soon turned in to a migraine. "I- I'm screwed." She lifted her head and looked at Ramiel. "Not because of you.. Because.. I mean.. Cmon you guys." She lifted her hands slightly as the tears swelled in her eyes. "I'm not.. I can't do this." Chase caught her elbow before she could fall.

"You could stay at my aunt's house. Well, one of he houses." The girls looked at him sideways. "She's big in retailing and has a few houses around the area. Cool thing is, if you're family you have a key. They wouldn't even know where to look." He stepped closer and whispered to Alizah. But Ada shook her head, and started to walk away.

"I can't just disappe--" She covered her mouth as an idea finally hit her. "No, I know what we can do. Granmama." The group kind of looked at her weird as she had visions of nostalgia on the vast garden her grandmother had lived on all of her life. She was a spiritual woman who was close to local natives, her home was the safest place she could think of and there would be no way for her granmama to say no to her, she had always encouraged Adamiris to use her magic. "She lives about fifteen minutes out of town, we could take the bus.." She kept looking at Ramiel as he suggested a place for them. If they were to be close, than she would make an effort to show that she is in this with him now. But now it was a matter of keeping her whole family safe, from harm and disappointment.

She let out a heavy breath. "That's the best place I could think of, we all could go out there for an "Early Spring Break... That is if you guys are in this too." The two let out small noises and waived their hands at her. Of course they were coming. But it was an odd feeling to be going on such an adventure with a group of strangers. "I'll call her tonight, the earliest bus tomorrow is at 7:30. I-I guess I'll see you then." She reached in her bag and pulled out a piece of paper and wrote her number enough times to be ripped and passed around. Text me as soon as you get home. She then looked at Rimiel and hesitated, he would have no where to go but Chase stepped in and put his hand on Rimiel's shoulder.

"If you need a place to stay you can come to my house, my brother may be your size in clothes as well." He smiled towards Rimiel. Chase was much thinner than him but they stood about the same height, yet Rimiel beat him by far in structure. Looking at Ada you could already tell she was exhausted by today's event but not much time was given to relax before the professor walked in with the group of students in which they all ducked back in to and as a small distraction they continued with the tour while everything sunk in. Adamaris instinctively stayed close to Rimiel as they walked, subconsciously drawn to him as if it was natural for him to be there. But her head was full of questions, with too many bad ideas and consequences.

The students immediately started discussing several plans, all of which sounded...a bit too spur-of-the-moment for his liking. He felt like he was one adult among a group of children right now, so at the very least he had to give his opinion. Though Adamaris had last say in the end. "I think you're all not really thinking things through. For starters, you can't just skip school when your classes have only just begun. I'm not a teacher, just a familiar. There's only so much I can do. Secondly, master, sooner or later your family will find out. Probably sooner than later. Gossip travels fast. The longer you hide it, the more of a shock it will be. And lastly, I don't require housing. I was released from the pin, but that doesn't mean I can't return. It just means that now I can enter and exit whenever I please. So if I need to be hidden without leaving you, I can do so quite easily." He wondered how this new Ultan would react to him speaking to her like that. The old one would have probably punished him for it. "That is...I think you should first think it through carefully, before making life-altering decisions."

When the other students walked in, luckily it was also easy for Ramiel to blend in. He kind of looked like a handsome, slightly older student anyway. It seemed that there was no more opportunity to talk, so for the rest of the tour the man stayed quiet. He had decided to closely follow Adamaris, but it soon turned out that that wasn't necessary. Just like the old man, the girl kept close to him instead. It was the same back then. Ultan, despite his harsh and strict personality, had come to rely on Ramiel being there beside him. Not just for protection, but for more every day tasks as well. When the tour was done, everyone had some time to spend on their own. Mostly for lunch, or if they wanted to visit an exhibit again. And at that point, just as Ramiel was getting a drink for his master, two girls walked up to Adamaris. "Hey, we were wondering, who is that blonde guy you're with? He looks dreamy. Are you two a couple?" One of them asked, obviously looking to score with a cute guy in her class.

The kids practically stopped in their treads as Ramiel spoke. He was right, it was irrational to just run away but Ada couldn’t help but get a small kick to her stomach after the thought of returning to her grandmother’s home. She didn’t want her family to know ever, magic was just too much in our family and wasn’t ever accepted. She didn’t know what she would do if she lost her brothers and sisters, but right now wasn’t the time to decide on what she’ll sacrifice first.

Every time Adamaris looked up at the group, plenty of girls turned to give the new boy some glances. She couldn’t understand why this bothered her for some reason, she felt nothing towards Rimiel romantically but every time a girl would lift her eyes towards his she felt a twinge in her side. Her hand reached out to grab his hand but quickly pulled away in panic. ‘Okay, calm down weirdo.’ She squealed at herself. She tried to separate from him by walking a few paces faster but before she knew it they were right next to each other again.

Finally the tour stopped and the students waited for the bus to arrive. Alizah and Adamaris began their small discussion on what they should do. “He’s right, we can’t just leave everything now. Plus, I have other things to take care of.” Ada shook her head agreement.

“I have two brothers and three other sisters. They are all younger than me, and normal..” Alizah cocked her head to the side but her facial expression made her look offended.

“Why do you keep saying that?” Ada sat up straight on the small bench they had found while the boys lingered near. Ada could always tell where Ramiel was, not in a creepy step for step way but she could turn her head in the his direction at any moment and he’d be there. Adamaris concentrated on what she could remember or what simply feels natural at the time being. “You okay?” She asked the spaced out Ada.

“It’s just weird that he feels so.. familiar yet nothing about magic does. I don’t feel anything.” Before Alizah could say anything else a few girls walked up to Ada and Alizah and began to ask their absurd questions. Adamaris’s jaw dropped as the girls tried to score at a guy she had just met but at the same time, it’s not like they would have known that. “That’s Rimiel.. We’re just friends.” She slowly said as the two didn’t even listen to anything she had said.

“Oh dude, he’s single! Okay thanks!” The girls mingled their way over to him to try to get their chance as the bus arrived. Chase made his way over to the group and stayed close to sit near the girls while Adamaris waited for Rimiel to join them. Alizah and Chase sat together while Ada had sat herself on the inside of Rimiel even though the girls who had tried to talk to him were in the same row on the other side.

“I don’t have any other classes today, if you don’t mind. I’d like to talk some more…” Adamaris was nervous as she leaned in slightly to talk to Rimiel without the rest of the group listening in.

Suddenly a group of girls came rushing to Ramiel. "Ramiel! Can we talk to you?" The same girl as before asked. The man turned around, looking a bit disinterested. Girls were great, of course. But especially now he had no time to divert his attention. Adamaris was...different from Black. By her age, or so Ramiel had been told, Black had started working on designing his own familiar. The 'prototype' before he himself was made. Yet this girl knew nothing of magic yet. Come to think of it, what if the reincarnation had failed? What if this was Black's final 'prank' with his crazy sense of humour? Instead of just telling Ramiel he'd have to serve a master...Black was definitely capable of pulling such a 'joke'. Either way, those were things to worry about later. For now he decided to assume that she was Black's reincarnation. "I'm sorry, ladies. But I can't talk to you right now." He spoke plainly, then walked away. Back to where Adamaris was sitting. The girls were shocked at first, unable to form a reply. Though once they thoughthe was out of hearing range they started talking to each other again. "So cold... But he seems very mature too~" Even coldly rejecting them was spurring them on. But there was nothing Ramiel could do about that for now though.

"Here's your drink, master." The man spoke as he handed her one of two cans. Technically he didn't have money, but there were little tricks he could use. As the machines seemed to run on something similar to his lightning magic. Technology had definitely improved quite a bit in the 100 years he was gone. So for more complicated machines he might have to study up on the world first. "Seems everyone's leaving. Were you waiting for me?" He asked curiously. He was used to his master going wherever he pleased, resulting in him having to chase after Black on numerous occasions. They headed to the bus as well, and were off to wherever this school was. So many new things to learn, including important locations and roads... As soon as they sat down Ramiel decided to comment on what seemed to be normal to everyone else. Though he spoke quietly, as to not sound suspicious. "So this bus is basically like a car, but more efficient and larger?" In his time, the maximum carrying capacity for a vehicle was only 6 people after all.

Once they were under way, Adamaris had some questions of her own too. That was logical. From what he had gathered, this girl knew nothing of magic. Let alone whom she supposedly was. Anyone would have questions after what had happened to her today. "Of course, master. I'm your familiar after all." He replied with a slight smile. Familiars were kind of like magical servants. Some for combat, others for operating machinery or heavy lifting, and even others for house work. Technically Ramiel fit into the first category, but he had also partially served as a kind of butler to Black. Bringing drinks, keeping Black's schedule, acting as chauffeur, things like that. So he decided to continue providing such 'extra service' for her as well. Even more so because she was a girl, and so far more friendly and kind than Black as well.

The bus ride seemed to take forever as Adamaris kept her eyes out the window. Part of her was excited to finally become something but there were three ways to this junction. One, she either is this powerful person and is.. still useless, or in all she was great and all this time she spent doubting herself was wasteful, or she's not and it was all just one big mistake. She glance over at Rimiel, studying his face before looking away. Nothing clicked, not even a single twinge of an idea of what was going on. But maybe it wasn't something to be rushed and patients with Rimiel would bring some kind of memory back.

The bus finally came to a halt and the kids began to climb off a lot faster than when they had got on but Ada took her time as if the second she steps off the bus she steps out of everything she's ever known and in to something she may not be ready for. Alizah and Chase lingered for Rimiel and Ada to get to them before saying their goodbyes before running off to their other classes. "We'll see you tomorrow right?" Ada didn't say anything, she tried hard to smile confidently before nodding her head yes. She turned to look at Rimiel before turning the other direction and walking towards one of the local cafes. You could tell that her mind was going a million miles per hour as her forehead scrunched and she continued to look around the floor as if the answers would blossom from the concrete.

She took a deep breath and stopped in the middle of the busy sidewalk before sliding close to the small shops that lined the small town area. A bench pushed against the back of her knees and forced her to sit down. She continued to stare at the ground before shaking her head and looking up to Rimiel. "I- I just don't get it. I mean.. Why can't I remember anything if I am supposed to be someone whose already lived? Shouldn't I have memories?" She placed her elbows on her knees and planted her face in to her palms and shook her head. She took a deep breath and straightened herself out, there was no need to be dramatic even though she was already overwhelmed in the beginning for starting magic school. "Do I remind you of.. him? Or do you feel anything from me..?"

The rest of the ride went by silently. It actually reminded Ramiel of how things used to be. Black was never one to talk during car rides. He figured it was because of a different reason this time, but still it was a slightly comforting feeling. As soon as they got out the man made a note of where they were. This was clearly the school, and they would be returning quite often after all. The two other students said their goodbyes, and off they were. Finally the two of them were alone. Or as alone as you could be in a public street. There was so much he didn't understand yet about this 'world of the future', so Ramiel was just looking around as he waited for his master to be done. Though before he knew it she was walking away. It was a familiar feeling to have to chase after his master. He couldn't help but grin just a tiny bit before quickly following.

After a while they stopped in what looked like a shopping district. Though he couldn't spot the shops he expected. Like a bakery, or a general store, or a pawn shop. Instead this place was dominated by clothing stores, something that looked like a machine store, and several places he could swear were bars. Yet teenagers were going inside, so that wasn't possible. In fact, they were standing right in front of one right now. They even served food apparently. So definitely not a bar. Once Ada sat down, Ramiel sat next to her, resting one of his arms on the back of the chair behind her. For what seemed like minutes, but was probably seconds, there was only silence. But then suddenly she started talking about her doubts about all this. It made the man a bit worried, and slightly disappointed with this age. Today's youth didn't seem to be as strong willed as before. He felt it was his duty to try to calm her down, but he didn't want to lie either. Starting off a potentially long lasting relationship with lies wouldn't end up well.

""To be honest, I'm left with almost as many questions as you." He started, trying to form what he was thinking into sentences as he spoke. "Do you remind me of him? I don't really know yet. Sometimes I think it does feel a little familiar, but we've only just met. So it's hard to tell. As for memories, I don't know for sure. Mister Black was the genius, I was his servant. I did learn a lot, but not nearly as much as him. What I can tell you is that I trust that man with my life. He was the kind of man that, if he set his mind to achieving something, he would manage to do so sooner or later." He smiled at her, only realizing that he felt this way as he was explaining it to her. Whatever happened next, he would trust in his master's decisions. "So I trust- no...I know he knew what he was doing. And that what has happened between us, wasn't an accident. I honestly can't tell yet if you are or aren't Black's reincarnation. If you are, all I can tell you is that something must intentionally be blocking those memories. And if you aren't, you will still remain my master. Because I believe that's what Black's intention." It was still a lot to take in though. He could remember the first time he was summoned to this plane of existence. In his world, where magic energy originated, there was no true concept of consciousness. You just existed and did your thing. Similar to ants in an ant colony. But then, suddenly, when he appeared in this world, there it was. Full awareness of everything and oneself. It was an overwhelming feeling at first. Maybe this was something similar?

He looked slightly more serious as he continued, though still kept a slight smile. "Whether you are or aren't his reincarnation, I am your familiar now. So why don't we put the past aside for now, and get to know each other a little better first? We've only just met, after all. If it helps, you could just see me as a family heirloom."

(His name is Ramiel, not Rimiel, by the way. ^^;; )

She could only stare at him as he spoke, she could feel that he was only being honest and loyal to her as if he had done it all his life. He was so natural when he spoke to her yet she felt oddly tense. It could be that some attractive man was now following her like a puppy dog, or that all of this was truly overwhelming.. It was a mixture of both. But she was comforted by him as he explained his own position in this mess. "If you trust me, then I trust you. Maybe this really was for a reason."

Her expression shifted with his as he spoke again and the idea of being able to forget things and get to know one another sounded great to her. She turned and looked to see a small restaurant and pointed to the doors. "I'm pretty hungry, want to grab a bite to eat and talk?" She smiled and paused before standing up and opening the door waiting for him. She ordered a bacon burder, fries, and a mint chocolate chip shake, she waited for him to decide if he wanted anything before sitting at a two seat table. She sat and waited for him to join her before taking a deep breath. "I'm guessing things are a lot different from when you were.. awake."

Ramiel's words had gotten through it seemed. Ada calmed down and even put a smile back on her lips. That was already much better. And a moment after he was done talking, she she suggested a meal. It was an odd moment to suddenly change the subject. But as long as her panic attack was averted it was fine. "Very well. I'm curious about how food has changed over the years." He quickly followed behind, his master leading them to what looked like a restaurant. Though there was something...different about it. The food all looked rather...hastily put together, and didn't look too appetizing at first glance. "I'll have the same." He spoke after a few seconds. Most of these meals looked rather foreign, like this bacon burger. He did know of beef and bacon though. And Ada seemed to like it, so it couldn't be too bad.

Once they had their meals, after only a minute or two even, they headed to a table. And as Ramiel sat down, all he could do was stare at his meal. Ada already gave the perfect introduction to the most important question he had right now. "Quite so... There are many things different from my time. For instance, this burger. It doesn't look like any food I saw back then. And these 'fries', seem like...they're made of potatoes? Is this really proper food to eat? Looks kind of unhealthy..." In his time, instant meals and fast food weren't a thing. If you wanted food, you'd need a cook to prepare it almost from scratch. And such simple foods as hamburgers or french fries weren't widely know yet either.

She blinked a few times before looking down at the burger she had already taken a huge bite out of and swallowed hard. "Oh-- I guess you're right." She shrugged her shoulder guiltily. "Sorry, it's the only thing I can afford right now. There are far better restaurants, or-- we could even get groceries and cook if that's better." She looked down at his burger and raised her shoulders again. "But I think you should at least try it." She smiled reassuringly, but wondered if their anatomy was different and what was okay to her was horrible to him but it was the slightest gamble. "This place is called Wendy's. It's a fast food place that you will see.. everywhere you go.." She laughed sarcastically. "Oh and coffee shops are on every corner as well except it's a lot more complicated than just coff--" She shook her head, this conversation was just too natural for someone who just flew out of a hair pin."

"Wait--. If I can ask.. What do you remember about.. him?" She leaned in like it was a secret but moved the corner of her lip over the straw to sip on her milkshake. Maybe it would be easier to figure things out if she got a background check on what exactly they were dealing with. "And.. I think I've mentioned this before but.. I don't even know how to control magic.." She began to whisper to Ramiel, her face quickly rose with red hues. This man was practically made of magic and she could only envy what kind of power he must know.

"No no, you're getting me wrong. I'm not judging you or the price." Ramiel explained. "I just didn't think food standards would have degraded this much over the years. It's already kind of you to buy this for me." Back in the day he was given his own salary. Enough to buy himself food or something to drink every now and then. Familiars technically didn't need food. Just the magical energy unconsciously expelled by people was enough to sustain him. But food wasn't a concept they knew of in the arcane plane. So familiars wanted to eat anyway to experience it.

Just as she encouraged him to take a bite, Ramiel did so, though slightly reluctantly. Though as soon as he took the bite he stopped, stared at the burger, quickly chewed and swallowed, and took another bite. "What...is this madness." He mumbled, staring at the sandwich again. "How can something looking like this taste this good?" It seemed impossible. Such a hastily put together meal, yet so incredibly full of flavours he hadn't experienced before. And he loved it! Back in his day, tomato sauce and an early form of mayonnaise had only been invented. This was something entirely different.

An important question came up though. One that would take a bit more time to answer than they had while eating. "Well... I'll start with the bad things about him. Since it'll take less time. Black was...strict, to say the least. He even bordered on abusive at times, both with me and his employees. Not just that, but he was very unreliable as well when it came to appointments or finishing projects. He really was his own man. No one could tell him what to do. Even if he hadn't finished a project yet, if he had a new idea he thought could be incredible he would start doing that right away. But now comes the good. Black was also a very caring man. Even though he was a very rough boss, he cared about each and every one of us. And outside of work, he always looked like he was thinking of his next research or invention. Not because it was work, but because he genuinely enjoyed it. Because of that, I ended up hiring a house worker for him that would go grocery shopping or clean the house. Otherwise they would never happen." Ramiel chuckled softly, remembering how he had pestered Ultan to clean the house for a month before finally giving up and hiring someone. The young woman that he had interviewed looked both awe-struck and incredibly nervous at the same time during their first meeting. No one probably remembered him by just his appearance in this age though.

"As for magic, he never really had a specific school of magic he used. He was more of a researcher than a fighter. People called him crazy. That learning magic from so many different schools would take more than a lifetime. But he did it anyway. As I said before, he was a man that, if he set his mind to it, would manage to do it one way or another. In the end he managed to get to the level of a lesser noble with each spell he used, apart from summoning familiars, which he mastered entirely. What made him the most scary when facing him was how he used his intellect with the spells he had. He never attacked head-on. Always using seemingly weak spells to set up traps and trick opponents. A small group of higher-ups that had experienced his fights even gave him a nickname. The demon trickster. Not because he was evil, but because he was scarily good with what he could do."

That was quite a bit of talking, and without Ramiel noticing he had finished his burger by that time. "Finished already, damn..." He though to himself as he looked at his plate to see what else there was. 'Fries' they were called. After trying one, and finding it to be 'better than baked potatoes', so good, he decided to say something more. "But please do not see who and what my previous master was as a template for what you need to become, master." He spoke softly. "If you are his reincarnation you'll eventually at least gain, or, regain the knowledge of his spells. And with training you could learn to use them. But the basis for magic is always oneself. Magic is most easily learned when one starts with something that feels comfortable or familiar. So the first thing to find out is what kind of magic suits you, which is why school is important for now."
