Korbin swatted away Vern's guesses like flies. "... Nope... No... Not Tributing," Korbin disagreed. "My monster's Special Summon," he explained, "but to Special Summon themselves, they first need to be destroyed. Only one monster in my deck can be Normal Summoned, and every other monster must be Special Summoned by that way. And judging by your confusion, I'd say that's pretty uncommon." The description was vague at best, and of course, Korbin didn't want to reveal too much. He wouldn't risk a loss if the duel he sensed was coming did.

"You seem to be wrong. Special Summoning is so common. There are so many ways to do it that even if all ways of doing it are different, it's still common in general." Vern replied. [i]So his monsters Special Summon them self when they are destroyed?[/i] "To be honest, most uncommon thing you could do is to play with only Normal Summons."
Korbin sighed at Vern, who had some very conflicting opinions with his own. "Vern, there aren't many monsters that can be summoned in the way the ones in my deck can..." He stopped and set his backpack on the ground, digging around for his Duel Disk and deck box hastily, as if irritated, which in a way he was. As soon as he found his Disk, he slipped it on his wrist and turned it on, slipping his deck inside it's rightful pocket. "You know, Vern, after all of that, I'd rather just show you," Korbin stated curtly.
"Hmm... Well, I guess I cannot turn down your proposal. Mostly out of my curiosity, I admit." Vern said while attaching his Duel Disk to his arm.

- [b](Korbin: 4000)[/b] Turn 1 (Vern: 4000) -

Korbin's deck shuffled continuously in its slot before the five top cards ejected themselves for Korbin to grab. He pinched them in between his thumb and index fingers, fanning them out to examine. "I'll go first then," Korbin announced. He then set three cards face-down in the Spell/Trap Card Zone. "I'll set three cards face-down, and end my turn from there."

- (Korbin: 4000) Turn 2 [b](Vern: 4000)[/b] -

Vern looked at his opponent field. [i]No monsters, huh?[/i] "Draw!" Vern looked at is cards. "I will begin by summoning [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Manju_of_the_Ten_Thousand_Hands]'Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands'[/url]. When I summon this monster I can add one Ritual Monster or Spell Card from my deck to hand. I'll add [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Ritual_of_Destruction]'Ritual of Destruction'[/url] to my hand."

Korbin nodded as the grotesque creature known as "Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands" entered the field. Korbin was unaware of the art of Ritual Summoning, so the notion of a Ritual Monster or Ritual Spell card was new to him. "So what, are we going to build a bonfire and dance around it?" Korbin retorted as Vern searched for his chosen card.
"Maybe after we finish duel? I don't feel like doing it while we duel." Vern smiled at his opponent. "I will continue my move by activating [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Foolish_Burial]'Foolish Burial'[/url] from my hand. Thanks to it I can send one monster from my deck to graveyard. And I choose [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Djinn_Releaser_of_Rituals]'Djinn Releaser of Rituals'[/url]. Let's speed this up a little. Battle Phase! [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Manju_of_the_Ten_Thousand_Hands]'Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands'[/url] attack him directly!"

"Not so fast, Vern. I'll activate my Trap Card, [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Artifact_Sanctum]'Theosophy of the Artifacts'[/url]. This allows me to Special Summon an Artifact monster from my deck, so I'll summon [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Artifact_Beagalltach]'Artifact Beagalltach'[/url] in Defense Position." As "Manju" tried to attack Korbin, a red sillhouette of a human appeared, clutching an absurdly broad sword inlayed with red patterns to block the attack. "Once 'Artifact Beagalltach' is summoned, I can activate it's effect: If it is Special Summoned on your turn, I can destroy up to two of my face-down's. I'll target just [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Artifact_Labrys]'Artifact Labrys'[/url] for now." The red sillhouette turned and slashed at one of Korbin's face-down cards, which split and began to glow purple, forming a new, more feminine sillhouette wielding a double-bitted axe with purple inlays similar to Artifact Beagalltach's. "Once 'Artifact Labrys' is destroyed, it's effect lets me Special Summon it back to the field in Attack Position."
"Well that means I will stop my attack for now. I activate card the added to my hand before, [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Ritual_of_Destruction]'Ritual of Destruction.[/url]" Vern declared.

Korbin simply flipped over his last Trap Card as "Ritual of Destruction" was revealed. "I'll activate [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Bribe]'Dark Bribe'[/url]. 'Dark Bribe' will negate your Spell Card, while in turn, will allow you to draw one card for your sacrifice."

"Well it looks like nobody told you that bribery is illegal." Vern said as his Spell Card were zapped with unknown energy. "But as you said this Bribe won't be completed if I don't draw my card." Vern continued as he added top card of his deck to hand. "Luck is on my side for now. I activate another Ritual Spell Card,[url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Contract_with_the_Abyss]'Contract with the Abyss'[/url]. This card allows me to Ritual Summon a DARK Ritual Monster from my hand. I tribute my [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Manju_of_the_Ten_Thousand_Hands]'Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands'[/url] and [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Djinn_Releaser_of_Rituals]'Djinn Releaser of Rituals'[/url]." Vern said as purple hexagon appeared between players. Then Manju began to glow and separate into four purple flames that flew into hexagon. After that they were joined by three other flames that flew out of Vern Duel Disk joined them. The atmosphere suddenly became darker.

"King of Darkness, hear my voice! Accept my sacrifice and crush anybody that dares to oppose me! Ritual Summon! Come forth! [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Garlandolf,_King_of_Destruction]'Garlandolf, King of Destruction'[/url]!" Vern chanted as his monster were summoned. "'Garlandolf's' effect activates. When I Summon him, all monsters besides him are destroyed." Vern smiled a little.

"Hmph..." Korbin watched as his monsters were destroyed by a force coming fron the newly summoned "Garlandolf." As the monsters were blown in to gold, glowing crystals, they were absorbed by 'Garlandolf.' "I'm guessing that's not all your monster gets to do," Korbin commented.

"Correct. For every monster 'Garlandolf' destroys with his effect, he gets additional 100 points of both Attack and Defence." Vern said as a holographic display of his monster power rose to state of 2700 ATK. "Unfortunately I cannot attack you this turn. Turn end."

- [b](Korbin: 4000)[/b] Turn 3 (Vern: 4000) -

Korbin quickly drew a card, wanting to hurry up this turn. "Draw," he announced, quickly turning the new card towards himself to examine it. It was just the card he needed to let him survive this next turn. "I'll set three card's face-down and end my turn." Korbin looked down at his empty hand, where cards should have been. He usually burned his hand up quickly to get his Artifact's on the field, but this time was different. Rather than winning now, he was losing.

- (Korbin: 4000) Turn 4 [b](Vern: 4000)[/b] -

"Draw" Vern announced as he drew his card. [i]Perfect.[/i] "It looks like Lady Luck is still on my side." Vern said as he revealed newly added card. "I play Spell Card [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Graceful_Charity]'Graceful Charity'[/url]. This card lets me draw three cards from my deck. Of course there is downside to this. I need to discard two cards from my hand." Vern said while he examined his hand. "I think I will go with these two monsters." Vern smiled to Korbin while discarding [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Djinn_Disserere_of_Rituals]'Djinn Disserere of Rituals'[/url] and [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Djinn_Demolisher_of_Rituals]'Djinn Demolisher of Rituals'[/url].

"Looks like the final act is coming soon. I activate Ritual Spell Card, [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Contract_with_the_Abyss]'Contract with the Abyss'[/url]" Korbin grimaced as another "Contract with the Abyss" was revealed. He now knew the destructive properties of the Ritual monsters, and dreaded the outcome. Not only that, but the monsters he sent to the graveyard struck a chord with him. It was as if they were specifically sent for a reason. Maybe their effect could be activated from the graveyard. Whatever the case, Korbin didn't have a card to stop this Ritual Spell.

"I sacrifice [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Djinn_Demolisher_of_Rituals]'Djinn Demolisher of Rituals'[/url], [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Djinn_Disserere_of_Rituals]'Djinn Disserere of Rituals'[/url], [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Djinn_Releaser_of_Rituals]'Djinn Releaser of Rituals'[/url] and [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Ritual_Raven]'Ritual Raven'[/url]." Vern declared.

As the tributes were announced, Korbin remembered that the Djinn's used were also the same Djinn's that Vern had sent to the graveyard. "Wait a second," Korbin stopped Vern's explanation. "Those monsters were in your graveyard. I'm not sure you can offer tributes from there." Vern cut right through his words "In normal case it wouldn't be possible. But you are not dealing with standard case. Djinns monsters can be banished from my graveyard as tributes for Ritual Summon." Purple hexagon once again appeared as Vern finished explaining things to his opponent. This time eight flames emerged from his Duel Disk and flew into hexagon. "King of Darkness, follow my voice! Appear before me and bring the end to your enemies! Ritual Summon! Rise from your eternal sleep! [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Demise%2C_King_of_Armageddon]'Demise, King of Armageddon'[/url]!" Another fiendish creature emerged from hexagon when Vern ended his chant.

"Battle Phase! [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Garlandolf,_King_of_Destruction]'Garlandolf, King of Destruction'[/url]! Attack him directly!" Vern declared start of his assault. As the hulking beast charged forward, Korbin revealed one of his Trap Cards. "I'll activate the trap, [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/Mirror_Force]'Mirror Force'[/url]. When you declare your attack, 'Mirror Force' will destroy each monster on your side of the field if they are in Attack Position."

Sudden flash of light surprised Vern a little. But when it ended his newly summoned monster were still standing on his side of the field. "What? Impossible!" Korbin announced, letting some of his anger flare in his voice. "Due to [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Djinn_Disserere_of_Rituals]'Djinn Disserere of Rituals'[/url] effect, monster that used this monster as a sacrifice is unaffected by Trap Cards effects." Vern explained situation to his opponent. "[url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Demise%2C_King_of_Armageddon]'Demise, King of Armageddon'[/url]! Attack directly!" Vern declared another attack with his monster. As his monster swinged it's axe at Korbin, holographic display informed Vern that 2400 Life Points were taken away from his opponent, leaving him with only 1600 left. "Turn end."

"As you end your turn," Korbin interrupted, "I'll activate my face-down, [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Mystical_Space_Typhoon]'Mystical Space Typhoon'[/url], to destroy my last face-down.[url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/Artifact_Failnaught]'Artifact Failnaught.'[/url]" A greenish tornado sprang form the face up [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Mystical_Space_Typhoon]"Mystical Space Typhoon"[/url], hitting [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/Artifact_Failnaught]"Artifact Failnaught"[/url] while it was face-down, causing it to spring forward. [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/Artifact_Failnaught]"Artifact Failnaught"[/url] was a large bow with a bright green sillhouette grasping it. "With [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/Artifact_Failnaught]'Artifact Failnaught's'[/url] effect, I get to Set an Artifact card from my graveyard to my Spell/Trap Card Zone. I'll choose [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/Artifact_Beagalltach]'Artifact Beagalltach.'[/url]"

Suddenly big, red "X" appeared on Korbin Duel Disk with unpleasant sound accompanying it. Korbin looked down at his Duel Disk, surprised by the sound. "What have you done this time, Vern?" Korbin asked angrily. "Due to [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Djinn_Releaser_of_Rituals']Djinn Releaser of Rituals'[/url] effect, when I control Ritual Monster that used this card as a sacrifice you cannot preform Special Summons." Vern explained to his opponent. Korbin growled and moved his entire field to the graveyard. "Fine..."

Korbin drew a card with a sigh as the turn was passed to him. Knowing that he had no way of winning this duel, he simply ended his turn then and there. "I suppose that's the game then," he murmured under his breath. "Turn end," Korbin said flatly, very disappointed in the duel's outcome.

- (Korbin: 1600) Turn 6 [b](Vern: 4000)[/b] -

Vern drew his card. [i]There is no reason to prolong this.[/i] "Battle Phase. [url=http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Demise%2C_King_of_Armageddon]'Demise, King of Armageddon'[/url]. Attack directly." Korbin closed his eyes as the Monster lumbered forward, swinging his axe to reduce Korbin's Life Points to zero.

Korbin pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance. [i]Korbin, what have you done?[/i] he thought to himself. [i]Could you have played any worse?[/i] He shook his head and began to pack up his things, putting his deck back in to it's deck box and folding his duel disk in to a smaller, more compact version of itself. "So that's what you meant when you said that your monster summon themselves when they are destroyed Korbin?" Vern asked while detaching his Duel Disk from his arm. Korbin nodded, choosing to gesture rather than speak to reply. "Artifacts, huh? They seem very useful. Maybe one day I will try them out." Vern continued to talk ignoring fact that Korbin decided to only gesture in answer. "Sure," Korbin responded, no longer interested in Vern. "You're in the Ritual Summoning course?" Korbin slung his backpack on to his shoulder and pointed down the hall. "We walked quite a ways. Your class is that way." "That's right." Vern replied. "Well I guess classes will start soon. Later." Vern said and turn around to go in a way Korbin pointed. "Ah, before I forgot. What course you attend?" He asked before leaving. "I attend the Xyz course," Korbin answered. "And, by the way..." Korbin stopped to think about what he was going to say. "... What's your win record?" "For this school year it will be 1 to 0." Vern replied with a little smile. "I see..." Korbin then turned and walked away, not bothering to say goodbye.
