Katniss glanced from Effie to Prim when the colorful woman asked if they were excited. She wasn't excited but she was ready to do what had to be done, even if it was unfair and cruel and pointless. Gale on the other hand, was the opposite of excited. He was nervous but he refused to let anyone know that. He didn't count on getting out alive but he knew Katniss and Primrose needed to, some way. the only hope he had was with trusting Peeta to do something. Gale looked at the two adults who went back and forth. It was all beginning to hit Gale and he knew that there was no way he'd be able to make it. He had skills, skills to go far but he didn't think he'd make it to the end, not like Katniss. He also knew Prim would be kept safe, if not by him or Katniss, maybe by a possible alliance they could make. It was a risk but he was sure other tributes and past victors wanted to stay alive, rather than stab one another in the back, for a set time anyway. "I'm pretty good with a bow and arrow." He spoke up when Haymitch looked at him. "I'm pretty quick on my feet, I'm able to hunt and track, I can climb alright and think a sword might also be usable if needed." He said, listing off what he thought were skill strengths. "I think I'd need to improve on making things from scratch in the wild. Improvisations aren't something I can pull off easily." He shrugged. Making traps took time and nimble hands and that wasn't something he had the patience to do. And he needed help making weapons if he was unarmed in the middle of nowhere. Those sorts of things would be helpful in dire situations. Gale glanced down at his plate and ate a bit more of the vegetables, just glad to have something fresh nourishing on his plate. His mind couldn't help but go back to when he was home, struggling to feed those he loved. He then worried for his family and how they would struggle. He was sure Prim's mother may welcome his family into her home for the time being but with the unrest, he couldn't be too certain. "He is pretty good with most things." Katniss agreed. "We've trained together since we were little kids, he's got as much talent as I do." She insisted. Gale almost choked on his food and looked to her, not believing that they were on the same level, maybe close but he knew she was more fearless than he was. Her skills were only improving where he had found little opportunity to practice archery. Katniss took a drink and shrugged, not seeing why Gale was so modest. Like Prim, she wasn't happy that he volunteered but she knew it was better to have him keep Prim safe when someone finally put a spear through her heart. Katniss wiped her mouth and sat back in her chair, trying to figure out what Prim would be good at. Prim would probably be good with climbing and gathering. "If anything, Prim might do better with long range attacks." She spoke up and looked around the table. "Maybe throwing knives or something." Katniss didn't feel comfortable with Prim getting close and dealing with the risks of hand to hand combat. "She's doing well with a bow too...but they might limit those and if someone wants to take me out, they'd grab the bow and leave me unarmed." Peeta looked at everyone, seeing a lot of unrest but also interest in the topic of tomorrow's training and what each of them could bring to the table. He wasn't surprised when Haymitch took the initiative nor was he too bothered. Peeta knew the man was still in the mindset of having to prepare everyone else for the worst case scenario but what he was neglecting was himself. The sacrifice Haymitch was making wasn't going to fall to the wayside to be forgotten. No. The blond wanted to keep Haymitch and everyone else alive and he was beginning to gather a solid idea but he needed more time to talk to people, people like Plutarch. Maybe something could work. "What about you?" The young adult spoke up and looked to Haymitch. Of course Peeta knew what Haymitch was good at, or decent at, but he knew Haymitch needed to work on his own short comings. "You need help with foraging, skills Gale and Katniss have, and you're clever and can think up tricks on the spot, an area Gale and Katniss need help with." He pointed out and then looked to Prim, though with her, he knew the least. "You have the most to prove." Peeta told Primrose, not trying to sound mean. "But that can be an advantage." Katniss held her tongue. Everyone knew Prim was Katniss' downfall, that she would do anything to protect her little sister and she could tell Peeta had almost let a similar comment slip out. "I think it's time for dessert!" Effie clasped her hands together and got up to make herself on espresso while the Avoxes brought around the tray to let everyone pick what they wanted. Gale turned down a dessert and just decided to have a bowl of fresh fruit. Katniss grabbed a chocolate coconut cream tart and Peeta snagged a small strawberry and vanilla cake. Katniss stuck her finger in the whipped cream which had bits of chocolate and toasted coconuts. The contrast between their meals and how they'd be fending for themselves in 10 or so days was agonizing but Katniss knew she had to just deal with it. Haymitch was right, if she gave up, it would all be for nothing. She licked her finger and glanced over at Gale, surprised he wasn't interested in any of the desserts. Then again, she knew it wasn't really his thing. "Don't stay up too late." Peeta warned everyone as he dug into his cake. While they were all training, he would be busy with the other mentors working on getting ready to kiss up to sponsors. Peeta would be networking and hoping that things didn't get out of hand during training. "Yes, mother." Gale grinned at Peeta. Though Gale was feeling better about the boy, it was still easy to poke fun.
