Harper looked at the city below him on the balcony. Even at the crack of dawn the city swarmmed with life. The penthouse suite at the top floor in which Harper resides has one of the best views in Eden. the lights from cars below resemble fireflys fluttering about on the streets. Small buildings and skyscrappers alike are riddled around the city. The sun has just started to peak above the skyline, illuminating the sky a burnt orange color. Harper has never realized it, but he is a sucker for great scenery. He tore his gaze away from the city and looked down when he heard the light shuffling of houseshoes on the floor behind him. Harper knew immediatly it was his mother and spoke soflty as if he wanted no one else to hear, "Why do you think dad hates us so much?" Harper felt like a child asking the question but it was tearing at his mind constantly and everyday. His mothers face materialized out of the corner of his eye, she was out of focus but he could tell by the way she slowly walked that she was exhasted. She leaned on the arm of the chair he sat on. "Money is basically a drug. We can't live without it and when we have all of it taken away some of us tend to," She stopped as if she was searching for the right words to say, but the sound of Haprer's father clearing his thoat proved otherwise. Harper turning to his back. His father was day drinking again. He didn't say anything at all, just an angry yet pained look marked his face. He walked away taking a swig from his flask and letting a disgusting belch escape his mouth. "You should get going to school." Harper's mom said walking off after his father.
