He was pleasant to deal with but didn’t go overboard in terms of dealing with people, but was always willing to help whenever he could. Cool and calm said what he meant, and meant what he said was Edwin Kincaid’s way. Once the outbreak occurred Edwin at first was concerned with just taking care of his wife and two children. Saving his family was all that mattered to Edwin, but inspite of his best efforts they became infected. Edwin is now a quiet man of few words, but he is still guided by a sense of doing the right thing when called upon. Occasionally Edwin will let out a wise crack here and there, but for the most part Edwin keeps to himself. Background: Edwin Kincaid was born in raised in a small backwater town called Granite falls, Texas about an hour outside of Houston. The family was poor but they were very close knit, and right from wrong was followed to the letter of the law. Edwin’s father Lance was an oil-rig worker and his mother Annie was a cashier at the local grocery store. On many occasions the family had to hunt for their dinner to survive especially during the winter months. Since they couldn’t really afford to buy a lot of ammo Edwin was taught two things; one always hit what you aim at the first time, and two how to use a Bow & Arrow when needed. Edwin was okay with a gun, but the Bow & Arrow was a natural fit for Edwin. Edwin knew that he didn’t want to spend his life in Granite Falls, and dedicated himself to getting out of there by any means necessary. He discovered at an early age that he was very talented at football, so Edwin applied himself and eventually became one of the most feared Strong Safeties in the state. During his Senior Year many colleges came calling, most of them were from Texas but Edwin was determined to get as far as he could. Luckily for Edwin Penn State offered him a full scholarship which he gladly accepted. Edwin excelled at Penn State and could’ve had a career in the NFL, but he had no interest in a Pro career. However Edwin was very interested in a career in law enforcement and worked long and hard towards that goal. The day Edwin graduated was a huge day for Edwin not only was he the first person in his family to graduate from college, he was accepted into the Police Academy in Pittsburgh, but he got engaged to Clara whom he met at school. Life was going great for Edwin. He had a great career with the Pittsburgh Police Department, married, with two kids. It seemed that life couldn’t get any better for Edwin, but then the outbreak happened and Edwin was sure if he tried hard enough he could protect his family. Edwin was wrong. Clara got tired of holding up in the family home and slipped out one night with the children. Just to see what was going on and to get away from Edwin for a while. Edwin awoke to find everyone gone. He grabbed his service revolver and went to look for his family. Edwin found them, but they were infected and with each passing moment their humanity was slipping away. Edwin was faced with a choice him or them. He was prepared to allow them to infect him but just then his wife made a gesture. She put her index finger and thumb to her head as though it were a gun. Edwin shook his head, but in a gargled and guttural Clara said, “Please.” Edwin with tears in his eyes shot his wife and children. Edwin headed back to his house, grabbed some food, water, other supplies. He left his gun there and vowed never to use a gun ever again. Even to defend himself because a gun was used to take his family from him. As he left the house Edwin rigged it so the house would blow up. It was reminder of a former life that filled Edwin with pain and suffering. Edwin decided to head towards Summer City. Pittsburgh was too big and too dangerous Edwin felt. Along the way he found an Army truck on its side. Curiosity got the better of Edwin and he went over to the truck. Edwin looked inside and found a crate of grenades. He wasn’t interested in all of them, but one was enough for him. Edwin grabbed one grenade and moved on. He felt that if he was ever in a no-win situation rather than be infected Edwin would pull the pin, and just see what happened next. Edwin now resides in an abandoned office building. He is still guided by the need to do what is right. To that end Edwin roams the streets at night stopping crime where he sees it, or helping others where he can. Retreating back into his “home” during the day and enjoying the solitude. At night when he tries to sell there are times he when he closes his eyes Edwin can still see the rotting infected corpses of his family laying at his feet. Equipment: A hunting bow, several arrows in a quiver, a backpack with a pocket knife, one grenade, a length of rope, three bottles of water, three bags of jerky. Other Notes: Edwin is a very keen observer. He doesn’t drink or smoke and has a southern drawl. Wears blue jeans, a black shirt, hiking boots and a brown leather jacket with a black fedora. Edwin has but one fear and that is claustrophobia. Edwin had to hide in a drainage system where there was no light or movement for two days. The whole time he could hear the infected around him. Although he is in solid physical shape Edwin is at the age where his body is beginning to betray him. Bumps and bruises are taking longer to heal, and he isn’t exactly the fastest man alive.
