The pain does radiate out, but it falls off quickly (until he learns how to control it). Even if it did radiate out more, it would be split amongst the group and therefore drop in potency. In titanpad there's a big discussion about Pat's power and how it works so I recommend you read that if you haven't yet. This is mostly done because Pat's power has the potential to be very overbearing if it isn't harshly limited.
