This, as the title states, is a High Casual Roleplay. As such, we'll be looking for people interested in that. We are also looking for dedicated people to be members of this. Check it out. Otherworld Near the end of the 20th century, and into the early 21st century, scientists with NASA discovered strange occurrences on the outer limits of the Kuiper belt. Pluto already had an elongated orbit, but there were two Dwarf-planets that exhibited odd orbital patterns. Years passed and NASA continued to study and learn. Eventually a theory came about. A scientist from South America brought to the attention of NASA, the possibility of there being a so-called "Planet X". The science behind it was sound, though out there in terms of many unknowns. The scientist theorized that Planet X was causing the strange orbits of the two Dwarf Planets, and that it was three times the size of Earth. What else did he know? Not much else. Many of NASA's greatest minds decided to drop the subject for two reasons. The first was that it would be too hard to get out there to see what was actually beyond the horizon, and second, it was too far from the sun to support any kind of life. Years passed and eventually people stopped looking to the stars in wonder, and started worrying about the wars and struggles of life on Earth. The idea of a Planet X had dissipated. Or so it would seem. In the year 2052, scientists with NASA developed the technology to view farther into space with much greater precision and detail. Of course, with this new technology came the resurgence of the idea to investigate Planet X. And so they looked. There was a problem with discovering Planet X. When viewed, the area where the planet would have been, showed a very large distortion, but it was unable to be clarified or viewed in any detail. The funny thing was that they could view beyond it in great detail. Again Planet X was bringing about problems, but this time NASA was technologically advanced enough to begin working on the problem. Cryogenic sleep was developed and fine tuned so that it could be effectively used. Astronauts were able to be sent further out into space without aging too badly. The shuttles were also much more advanced. No more risky take offs, or bulky, ugly ships. They were sleek now, beautiful in design, wonders of mankind. Many expeditions were mounted to the moon, Mars, Saturn, and every other planet. But none that had come close to Planet X. Finally, it was proposed. A small crew would be sent into a long nap and flown past the Kuiper belt and into deep space. They were to discover, analyze, and report their findings on the distortion. They had no idea what they were getting themselves into. ------ In the year 2053, NASA had finished construction on the NSC Exodus. It was the first of it's kind, sleeker, more efficient, smarter, and built for longer distances. Not only that, but it was able to carry more civilian-esque passengers. No longer were astronauts the only people allowed into space. The Exodus would allow for doctors, scientists, soldiers, and other under trained personnel to enter the Great Dark Beyond. Giant bulky ships with detachable pieces were no longer necessary. The design of the ship, and the distribution of power, allowed for it to leave the planet as a whole, and travel through space as one. No space station docking was needed, no extra thrust stations left in space for later use were needed. The ship was completely able to fend for itself. What was the goal of the NSC Exodus? To explore and discover the mysterious Planet X. The ship, and her crew, were to be the first to discover the Planet and the distortion that was hiding it. Her crew consisted of; The Pilot - (Vertical)
Name: Samuel Bishop Age: 32 Gender: Male Description: Standing at roughly 6 foot 3 inches, Sam Bishop was a taller man. He was not an imposing man though, he had a slender build with some muscle. At one point in his life he was a tall, muscular, monster of a man, but that was in his youth. Now he was closing in on his mid thirties, and had not needed to have a build like that in years. Looking at Sam, one could tell that he had one foot in the door of retirement already. Just looking at the man, one could tell that he had encountered much stress in his life, and was ready to be done with it. A full, thick, head of hair covered the top of his head. His hair was a dark brown. Never had he allowed his hair to get below a certain point on his upper neck, and now was no different, though it was much thicker than usual. Since Sam was almost retired, he had also allowed himself to become less groomed. As such, a beard had begun to grow. His eyes were a piercing blue, serious half of the time, and joking the rest. Those eyes had seen much struggle, tears, but a lot of joy as well. Personality: Sam Bishop is, and always has been, a laid back man. He is also a very dedicated one, loyal, and strong willed. His life has been filled with tragedies, and as such, he has built up a thick skin, for the most part. That being said, he is not a stone cold person. Sam has a very active sense of humor, and will often use it. Some therapists have said that he uses humor as a coping mechanism, he just says that he is funny. Sam will make his decisions based on a few criteria. Personal feelings and attachments are a leading criteria, sometimes noted as being selfish, he will judge a situation based on his wants and needs. But he is not completely selfish. Sam will also weigh in the best options for completing the mission, and the damage, in life and damage to aircraft and such. Most of his decisions are logically sound, but a small few are questionable. Sam is a recovering alcoholic, that is probably his weakest trait. Thankfully, the Exodus has no liquor on board. Crew Role: Sam Bishop, since 18 years old, has been a member of the United States Air Force. Sam, using USAF funds, also pursued a college education in engineering, and then furthered his education with NASA. So, on top of being an excellent pilot, Sam was also able to work on a select number of parts on NASA space craft. Though he has an education in engineering, that is just a plus. Samuel Bishop is the Exodus's pilot. Biography: Born to an Orlando family, Samuel spent most of his youth outside in the heat. Playing "soldier" with his friends was his common pass time, that is, when he was not in school. The family that he was born to was quite normal. Derrick Bishop, Sam's father, was a math teacher. His mother, Linda Bishop, was a nurse. Along with a normal parental unit, Sam also had a brother and a sister, both younger. Sam's brother, Mitchell, was only a year younger. This led to them developing a strong bond and becoming best friends. They protected each other, got into trouble with each other, and were almost always just getting into something together. Their bond was a strong one. Both brothers, though not as close to the sister, had a very strong sense of protection for her. All in all, Sam's early youth, up until High School, was a very normal and fun experience. Early on, probably in the 7th grade, Samuel knew that he wanted to fly planes. He did not realize that that would lead to him flying fighter jets and eventually a space craft. High School was a different experience for Samuel. He and his brother were sophomore and junior when they began getting into frequent schoolyard fights with other students. Mitchell was quickly becoming a problem child, where as Samuel was thriving in the scholarly field. Though they were often engaging in fights with other's, the two brothers seemed quite happy. Then, Sam's senior year, something happened that created a drastic change in both brothers. The younger sister was kidnapped, raped, and then dumped back off, nude, in front of the school. It was an event that created a chasm within the family. Mitch and his mother blamed Sam's father, Derrick. Sam blamed himself. He had felt as if he failed to protect his sister. Within two months, Sam's parents had gotten a divorce. Sam went with his father and finished High School in Tampa, Mitch and his sister stayed with Linda. The rapist, an already once convicted pedophile, was arrested once again and given a life sentence. It did nothing to console the Bishop family. Sam's mother started dating less than a month after the divorce, and was remarried three months later. Sam believed that she was already having an affair with the man before the rape, and thus, never forgave her for leaving him and his father. After High School, Samuel joined the USAF. He excelled in many of their programs, and for six years, was a fighter pilot. During the six years, he served one tour but saw no combat. He was stationed at a base in Okinawa, so he was really just a space filler there. When he returned home, he began working on his engineering degree. Samuel was 27 when he graduated college and earned his degree, 28 when he began working with NASA. While on break, Samuel returned to Orlando to find the splintered parts of his family. What he found was troubling. His brother Mitchell had descended into a life of drugs and theft shortly after graduating. At the age of 24, he died of an overdose. This news led him to begin drinking, a reaction that he and his sister shared. Mitchell never found his mother, and never returned to Orlando again. He was scarred now. At the age of 30, Sam began an advanced program in pursuit of becoming a space pilot. Working with NASA for 2 years had made him develop a heavy interest in all that space could offer him. Just after his 32nd birthday, he was certified and placed as the pilot of the NSC Exodus. Though he was saddened to be leaving his father and his home, he was excited to become an explorer. Other: None
Perhaps not the Captain of the ship, but none-the-less, an important member. This person is tasked with the manual landings, the docking, and the safeguarding of the ship. He/She knows the insides and outs of his/her ship, and will be the first one to go to when something goes wrong. The Pilot may not be a doctor or have a Master's, but he/she is just as important as the rest. The Navigational System Operation, Navigator - (Ruby)
Name: Anabella Hauer Age: 33 Gender: Female Description: Lithe and athletic built standing at 5'7 barefoot, LCDR Hauer is in even better shape than when she was as a Midshipman. Shining and straight black hair frames a pretty heart shaped face and big brown eyes, her lips full and pink and well moisturized. She is typically immaculately groomed, to the point of fair play when someone takes a crack at her for it. Personality: Anabella Hauer is a polished professional. Patient, calm natured, and impossibly positive. A master of awareness and control of her own attitude, and it's effect on others, it's uncommon to find her in a sour mood for too long. An expert at multitasking and compartmentalizing her life; though in more private moments some of those compartmentalized parts of her, the parts that aren't just the Naval officer and intellectual, will sometimes show themselves in brief glimpses. Crew Role: Navigator. Biography: A good kid from a broken home was the selling point to get Anabella Hauer into Anapolis. From that acceptence, her life has been on a singular course with precious little time or energy for too much outside of that trajectory. She became a model Midshipman, then a model flight student, then a model pilot and JO, then a model candidate for NASA. For a time after enrolling into postgrad programs to enhance her NASA application status, newly minted LCDR Hauer lived more of a civilian life than the Navy heavy life she had always known while attending post-graduate studies in Astrophysics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After a Masters of Science in Systems Engineering and Astrophysics from MIT, her career hit it's one and only snag to date: due to her academic schedule she missed that year's deadline for astronaut selection. Instead she was to join SPAWAR as an experimental test pilot for just over a year until she was selected by NASA for the astronaut corps. Almost as soon as she was taken into the corps she began being groomed for her current mission. LCDR Hauer would like to think she knows the Exodus as well as anyone else, which will come in handy when she's trying to determine how to get the craft where it needs to go. In fact, she has spent so much time with the engineering teams and managing astronauts before launch that she is perhaps behind on other important mission areas: especially being familiar with the entire crew. While she and the pilot have spent simulator hours together, many of the crew outside of the scientific core has yet to have much exposure with the Exodus' navigator.
The Pilot's right hand man/woman. The Pilot can fly, but where do they fly? The Navigator decides that. The Navigator has an important role aboard the ship. They set the course for the ship and also handle all auto-pilot functions. The Navigator will know almost as much about the ship as the Pilot, almost. The Navigator will have had much experience, and is probably heavily college educated. A very important person for the ship. The Soldier - (RBY)
Name: Diarmi Accursio Age: 29 Gender: Male Description: Standing at 5'8" with a fairly fragile-looking build, Diarmi at first glance seems harmless. His skin tone is on the darker side of the spectrum, and he has short dark-colored hair and hazel-green eyes. He has some scars, mostly on his torso and legs, apparently inflicted from weaponry than improvised tools. He's not in the habit of wearing his armor around the ship or even his uniform, opting instead for fairly casual attire and, oddly, a blue scarf. Despite his less-than-imposing stature and laid-back demeanor, he can demonstrate why physically he's quite capable of the job assigned to him. Personality: Diarmi tends to stick his nose into other people's problems, offering his help without hesitation or foresight. He gets a little disappointed when he's turned away. That said, he's very tight-lipped about his own problems and tends to refuse help. Even when he's getting overwhelmed, he tries to fix his problems on his own occasionally with disastrous results. He seems to display traits of a bipolar disorder but refuses diagnosis or treatment on the grounds that it could interfere with his employment. Despite his general cheer, he seems to dislike talking due to an inexplicable (and apparently Russian) accent. Crew Role: It's a known fact that being confined to close quarters with anyone, and with no real way to escape if relationships sour, and Diarmi's role is to act as a mediator, enforcer of compromises and solutions, and defender of any parties in conflict. The last part means if anyone tries starting a physical confrontation, he is obliged to step in and restrain them. He's not supposed to take side or offer solutions of his own in order to enforce the idea he's supposed to be a neutral entity on the ship. On the planet, and in the unlikely event of an extra being boarding the ship, his duty is to defend the rest of the crew from harm; in such a case, he has no obligation to take the role of diplomat unless explicitly ordered by a higher-up. In the event of no extraterrestrial life being discovered, his role on the planet is one of support, using the necessary materials (e.g. anaerobic explosives) in order to clear obstacles that the crew faces. Biography: Diarmi was born on December 4, 2024 in Fort Lauderdale, FL, to a loving father and mother, as well as an older brother. When he was old enough, Diarmi joined his mother and brother's summer street shows for the tourists instead of working in his dad's knickknack shop. He was enrolled in gymnastic classes to learn the basic tricks for the shows. His brother taught him a few extra 'tricks' to get even more money from the tourists, which Diarmi happily added to his repertoire. It never even occurred to him that anything was wrong until he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a police officer pulled him aside for pickpocketing at the age of 10. His youth, combined with his genuine fear, resulted in a warning and having to return the money with a tearful apology. His mother expressed shock apologized to the cop and the man. It wasn't until he got home that his mother revealed how disappointed in him she was - that he got caught. Apparently, his mother's family had been con men and scammers for generations. His father knew but hadn't cared since, hey, they were tourists, they'd likely never meet again and he loved his wife dearly. Diarmi would simply have to keep quiet since he'd be considered an accessory otherwise. Diarmi complied, reluctantly continuing to participate in his mother's shows for the next few years while now trying to figure out how to get away. The idea came in a bolt of figurative lightning - in reality, it was a recruiter visiting his high school. He'd enter the ROTC program, receiving a full scholarship and room and board, preferably at an out-of-state university. So the whole thing was a bit of a scam on his end, perhaps, but the Army was getting what they wanted and Diarmi was getting what he wanted, so couldn't be that bad. He hoarded money from performances and, shortly after his graduation, signed up and left home. He'd chosen a university in California - Santa Clara - and in his freshmen year generally drifted between classes. He hadn't actually considered his degree, but in the end majored in Physics, which kick-started his more-than-passing interest in outer space. The degree offered multiple astronomy classes and, though the late nights were occasionally killer on his ROTC courses, he found space fascinating. It was a shame, of course, that space exploration had ceased on the whole. After he graduated, he entered Active Duty for the military due to difficulty in obtaining a civilian job. He managed to avoid the worst of the bloodbaths, though it was not to say his job was peaceful. He fought more than a few battles. When news came out that Planet X was re-discovered, it was clear that Diarmi was quite enthused. When his commanding officer asked the unit for any volunteers for a deep-space trip, Diarmi was first in line to volunteer. As far as he was concerned, when he got picked, there wasn't a luckier person on Earth than him. Other: The gun he carries has multiple settings and safeties to prevent him or someone else from blowing a hole through the ship's hull, and for good reason.
You never know what you might find on a new planet. Hopefully, it is not aliens. The function of the Soldier is to mostly demolish any physical obstacles that the crew would find planet-side. The Soldier would also act as a peacekeeper aboard the ship. The Soldier will be armed and trained, ready to face any danger that may present itself. The Soldier is an important person. The Doctors - (OPEN, OPEN) The Doctors play a very important role. They are there for two reasons. Make sure that all vitals of the crew are intact, and to make sure that they stay healthy. There are two Doctors, that is a safeguard. If a diagnosis is to be made, two opinions are better than one. The Doctors are smart, college educated, and very experienced. Or maybe one is and the other is a fresh, young, college graduate. The Scientists - 4 spots (OPEN, OPEN, OPEN, OPEN) Will be described based on the characters that are submitted. The AI - (Beowulf)
Name: Icarus. Ironically named after the Greek man who flew too close to the sun. Age: Ten years old. Gender: Well, if you were to give him one, I guess he'd identify as a male. Really, robots don't have genders so you can't throw one on him that easily. Description: Like his gender, Icarus has no actual physical body of which to describe. Of course, that doesn't mean I'm not gonna try. On board the Exodus there is a small collection of things he can use to have a physical form. Three rough robots are available for him to manually take control of and actually interact with people. Of course, they're a little bit scary which is why he prefers to put them in clothing and try not to freak anyone out. When communicating through everyone's communicator...things (iPod 54's.) he wears a small avatar that conveys his general mood. Also mounted up around the Exodus are these cameras that allow him to see what's going on most of the time. They also come with built in speakers. And for added effect, the last thing he can use are these neat little repair drones that beep boop their way around the station. Personality: At first glance, you might not even notice that Icarus was an AI if he was just speaking to you. His voice is slightly synthetic, but still is very similar to that of a young man. Icarus is rather hesitant in his manner around people. He tries to be polite and kind, but if you get past his soft exterior, you'll realize that Icarus is just like any other person. He laughs, he cries, he wonders about the journey their ship will be taking them. He knows a lot of things, but doesn't know all that much about the complex interactions between people. From time to time he can be rather obtuse in his way of speaking, switching to a very logical and cold tone, or even speaking in the third person. Crew Role: Being the computer that runs the ship has some pretty big responsibilities. Number one is making sure you don't kill everyone. That's the hard part, but Icarus tries his best. He runs a lot of the things on the ship. The engines, the reactor, the oxygen filters and producers, the recycling system. Of course, there are things set in place to make sure he can't just make everything go haywire. Deep firewalls and permissions from the crew restrict him on most things. Biography: Icarus was 'born' on February the 14th, 2043. Valentine's Day. Of course, he wasn't your average baby. Icarus was born possessing a large sum of the human knowledge, and thus, knew more than Stephen Hawkings. The closest thing Icarus has to a father is his creator, Johnathan Wilk. Johnathan was probably the most important aspect of making sure Icarus didn't go 'crazy' like most of the early prototypes. A nurturing behavior, plus giving a complete understanding of what he was brought Icarus to where he was today. At first, he wasn't designed specifically for the role of space. The first things he did were running very complex things like chunks of the internet, or entire fleets of aircraft. Of course, his curiosity led him to space and all of its wonders. After learning of the development for the Exodus, Icarus begged to be allowed to be chosen, and after a lot of grueling, weeks of not hacking into anything, and even threatening to shut himself off, he was permitted to be installed on the Exodus. He helped considerably in the process, running many simulations of complex astrophysics, suggested what worked best with him when being installed, and generally being very excited to go. Of course, he was sad to say goodbye to the scientists he knew from birth, but he knew this would be the best thing for him. During the flight to Planet X, he was put in sort of a 'standby' mode similar to cryo sleep like the crew, and after that, who knows? Other: He prefers a light snack of 400 Volts.
Probably one of the most important roles in terms of keeping the ship running smoothly. The artificial intelligence installed on the ship is somewhat of an advanced prototype. The thing separating him from other advanced robots is that he, in a sense, is sentient. The AI's role is to keep everything running, from the hydrogen reactors to the on board water filtration system, it has its hands on pretty much everything electronic. The Journalist - (Frettzo) The media's need for juicy stories has yet to be sated. Journalism, especially in this day and age, has advanced as much with the technology. Journalists are much more present at important moments in time, as well as being a nuisance for the rich and famous. On the NSC Exodus, however, the Journalist has a role that is almost completely independent of the functions of the ship. He/she is responsible for himself/herself, and the story that he/she is writing. The Journalist, though perhaps not the favorite of the crew, eventually earned his/her spot aboard it. Character Sheet Name: Age: Gender: Description: Personality: (OPTIONAL) Crew Role: Biography: (3 paragraph minimum. Must include how they came to be in their particular role and on the ship.) Other: (Any other information for my Co-GM and I) ----- Rules The basic rules for every Roleplay apply here. So all the basic stuff, you should know what that is. The Soldier is the only character that carries a weapon. Period. No characters have knowledge of what Planet X is, why it is there, or anything related to it other than what is already known and explained above. This is a Science Fiction/Mystery/Adventure-type RP. Action is not listed there. As such, there will not be a whole lot of fighting most likely. This is more story/character driven, so keep that in mind. Every one of the crew members has this suit. This is the assigned suit for everyone I have the final say in everything and every matter. Beowulf is my Co-GM, listen to him (most of the time). We are in space. You can "lone wolf" if you really wanted to, but you only have a ship to do so on. People may have more than one character. Let me know if you want one that is not listed above. Romance is fine. Vividly described sexual encounters are not. PMs if you must do that. Swear like a fucking pirate, if you would like. I think that covers everything. I am here for ANY questions, so is Beowulf. Additional Information The ship we are on is called the NSC (National Space Craft) Exodus. Since I feel that some sort of picture would help describe the ship better, here are some pictures of what the inside would look like. There are more rooms than just the two here, and I'll list them off (some have pictures). The NSC Exodus The Cockpit Hallways Crew Member Quarters The Medical Bay. This room would follow the same color and design scheme as the rest of the ship. Inside of it, there would be three hospital beds, computer screens around them, and all kinds of cabinets filled with medical paraphernalia. The Cafeteria. This room is not that large, in fact, every room is quite small. The cafeteria is the largest since it is large enough the hold the entire crew. Engineering Rooms. There are an assortment of rooms that have access panels for someone to access engines, computer systems, AI systems, and all other technological pieces of the ship. This is generally for repairs. AI Shell Dock. This is more of a set of closets filled with the physical bodies for the AI to use. There are also cameras all over the ship, except for the Crew Member Quarters, so that the AI can keep an eye on things.
