About a week ago “What’s wrong with you?”, Harley asked, her eyes narrowed as Hank drew closer to her. Blood dribbled from his mouth, his eyes were bloodshot and whitened, and he staggered and snarled across the room. Taking in more of his state, Harley’s breathing picked up, “Hey, dude…Stay back. Hank! Stay back!” As she cried out to him, he seemed to snarl louder, and to stagger a bit faster, reaching out toward her. His fingers touched her white shirt, smearing blood across them, and for the first time, it became evident he was really hurt. His reaching caused the wound on his neck to spurt blood all over the sterile floor, and Harley’s shoes. “HANK! Please…just…go back to your room! NO!”, she cried out as more of the blood spurted over her shirt and his mouth drew close to her throat. A gunshot rang out, causing her to scream and cover her ears. Cold liquid splattered her face and neck, and with a loud ‘thud’ Hank fell to the floor, “NO! Hank…no…” Ignoring her sobs, Hayden’s hand wrapped around her bandaged wrist, and dragged her toward him. She fought, grabbing at Hank’s bloody shirt, unable to even form coherent words. “Get off of me! How could you?! N-no…”, she sobbed once more, only to be ripped from the floor and into Hayden’s chest, her nose pressing into his uniform. “We have to go.”, he whispered, running his fingers through her hair, “Harley…we have to get out of here. They’re killing everyone.” “Wh-who is killing them?” “The sick ones. Hank…I watched him get his throat ripped out. He…I can’t explain how he walked away but he was going to kill you. Do you understand that?”, Hayden stuttered. “No. He would never…” “He’s sick! He was…infected with something. It’s like rabies or something.”, Hayden attempted to explain, as he stepped back from her, his hand still wrapped around her waist, and stared out the window of the room. Once a couple of the infected had walked past, Hayden took a deep breath and dragged Harley out the door, her eyes not leaving Hank until she could no longer see his body. ------- Present Day Once again being shaken from her thoughts, Harley shook her head and stared at Hayden’s face. “Sound good?”, he asked, as they approached the main building of the lodge. The lights were off, and the building looked pretty deserted. There were no infected folks to be seen around, which was odd, but they began staring into the windows carefully. “I don’t know if I want to do this. I mean…can’t we just go see if any of the cabins are empty?”, Harley whispered, as Hayden plastered his face against yet another window, staring inside at the emptiness. “No. If the owners are here, they might have food or something. They might let us stay.”, he explained, shaking his head. As they reached the door, Hayden placed his hand on the knob and began to turn it slowly, not exactly sure what to expect on the other side… (I’m leaving this off here for Shelton, when he returns)
