He cries out in agony, though he does not burn. Tormented screams erupt from his mouth as he endures unimaginable pain. Despair fills his empty soul, infecting his very core and driving his broken mind to the brink. “Help me.” He begs, calling out to God. But no help came. After destroying several miles of forest, the man was finally found and subdued with the help of two summoners. When he regained consciousness, he discovered that he had contracted two spirits, and all memory of his past had vanished. No one, including Charon, has ever been able to figure out where he really came from, as the only entity with that knowledge is the spirit, Pharen. The spirit explained that the price of her contract had been Charon’s past, something that he had been more than willing to part with. She offered Charon the chance to begin life again, free from the sins of his past, or rather, almost free. In exchange for his new life, Charon would also suffer the pain of the Demon’s Curse, bestowed by Hexidra, Pharen’s daughter. With nothing left but the scars on his face, and a curse to endure, Charon headed west. Along the way he discovered talents left over from his past, and a capacity for dealing death. Not wanting to waste the second chance he had been given, Charon swore to devote his life to helping others. For the next few years he worked his way slowly west, traveling only by foot, sharpening his skills as both a swordsman and a summoner. In each town that he stopped in, Charon would take up any bounties and do whatever he could for the people, and picking up two more spirits along the way. Despite his good deeds, Charon was never a particularly friendly man, typically beset by sorrow and mournful contemplation. This has led him to a life of solitude, keeping the company of few other than his spirits. Nights that he isn’t working he can often be found drinking alone at whatever bar stays open the latest. Upon arriving in Meduzart, Charon decided to join the Adventurers guild in order to find more challenging jobs. Despite over a decade of membership, he has made very few friends in the guild, and many people don’t even know his name. Usually he only sets foot in the guild hall to pick up a new job before disappearing again. As a result, quite a number of heads turned when he volunteered for the mission into the Varsie Empire. Some of the members who had only been around a few years looked around, asking about the new guy, but those seasoned veterans who knew of The Demon had no question as to his qualifications for the job.[/hider] [hider=Skills and Abilities:] Berserker: Charon specializes in overwhelming his foes with offensive might and high risk/high reward tactics. Acrobat: Trained in acrobatic stunts and parkour.[/hider] [hider=Equipment:] Charon carries a heavy bastard sword, slung over his shoulder, and twin short swords worn at the hip. His armor is made mostly of blackened leather with some light steel plating, allowing for a full range of motion. Age: 200 Abilities: Sage is particularly clever for such a simple spirit, and can take the form of a small monkey to steal keys or coins as well as a variety of other standard monkey shenanigans. Grants Charon a moderate increase in his balance/surefootedness and acrobatic talents. He is also required to enter a contract with Pharen’s daughter, Hexidra. Age: Ancient Abilities: Can bend time. Grants Charon the ability to alter his perception of time, speeding up to pass extended periods quickly, and slowing down to allow him to drastically increase his reaction speed. In exchange, every time he summons the use of her powers, Charon must endure a period of overwhelming agony and despair equal to the duration of his usage. He is also required to enter a contract with Hexidra’s mother, Pharen. Age: 900 Abilities: The power to summon forth green hellfire. Grants Charon the ability to assume the form of a demon, giving him natural armor and the ability to rain hellfire down upon his foes. While in this state Charon has very little control over his actions except that he will not attack those previously identified as allies. Because of the price and possible consequences of using this ability, Charon rarely calls upon this power. Wields two blades and can perform a deadly flurry of wind and steel. Grants Charon the ability to use the power of wind to move swiftly, jump farther and higher than normal, and dash up to 50 ft. through the air. Aspiral has also enchanted Charon’s bastard sword with the essence of wind, allowing him to wield the blade as if it were much lighter, and swing it with greater speed and precision.[/hider]
