The design is showing its age however, suffering from lack of spare parts and unreliable barriers. Each Renault FT Unit that the People's Liberation Army of Ming maintains has developed a life of its own after dozens of jury-rigged repair jobs. Each pilot develops an intuitive bond with her Unit, often to the point of refusing mechanics access, preferring to care for their finicky partners themselves. Weapon 37mm T-14 Gun A fast firing assault weapon, the T-14 was one of Ming's first indigenously designed modern weapons. Able to load a variety of ammunition types such as AP, HE and Cannister, the T-14 is a reliable main armament for a recon unit. Mauser C96 Pistol Imported in bulk from Karlsland, the C96 is the main sidearm across all of Ming's forces. Accurate and relatively powerful, it is let down by overly complex engineering and frequent jamming. Magical Ability Juéxīn (Determination) While Dongmei's magic never manifests itself in flashy ways as with other witches, it nevertheless plays a vital part in the way she fights. Juéxīn activates when Dongmei is under fire, rapidly healing wounds and numbing pain, so that enemy fire does little more than piss her off until she runs out of energy. The more injured she gets the more angry she gets, eventually losing her cool completely. When in this state Dongmei is a great distraction but due to her weak weapons, unlikely to cause significant damage to the enemy. In any other nation's military Dongmei would have been assigned a heavy tank Striker, but the Renault FT is simply the best that Ming has to offer. Animal Familiar Red Panda Personality Losing one's homeland can have a profound effect on a person's psyche and nowhere is this more apparent than with Zhu De Dongmei. Once a bright and cheerful girl, the destruction of her home in eastern Ming and the failure of the Empire to protect its citizens have darkened her countenance significantly. She is a consummate soldier, unflinching in combat and unwavering in her dedication to the People's Republic. In battle she is focused and harsh, sadistic at times; to Dongmei, every Neuroi destroyed brings her one step closer to ultimate revenge. Under the surface however, she is a naive farm girl who wishes that this was all just a bad dream. She secretly craves a sense of warmth and belonging, as well as a return to simpler times. Bio/History Despite being of uncertain parentage and having no permanent home, Zhu De Dongmei enjoyed a happy life in a small peasant village on the southern Ming coast. The other residents pitched in to raise the waif in return for her help on their farms, where her innate magical abilities proved useful for heavy lifting and other manual labour. The threat of Neuroi attack was an ever-present danger to the village, but occasional patrols from the Imperial Army of Ming were enough to calm the people's fears. It wasn't until 1935 that their false sense of security was shattered. A roving force of Neuroi hit the area from the newly formed Hive inland, annihilating entire towns as it swept along the coast. A company of Imperial soldiers was dug in just north of Dongmei's village, shielding the civilians from the alien attack or so they had been told. When the Neuroi hit the village, the people were utterly unprepared. Amid the burning shacks and boiling rice paddies, Dongmei and a few others were able to escape northward, hoping to find protection among the soldiery. They never found them. The military had evacuated the area some time before, having written off the inhabitants of the area. The remaining surviviors found themselves cut off behind enemy lines, abandoned by the government and unable to fight back. After days of wandering westward the group had dwindled to just four, all injured and emaciated; when a Neuroi walker chanced upon them in the dead of night, they all but gave up hope. As the alien was lining up to fire, a shot lanced out from behind. The walker turned to engage, finding itself facing off against a pair of Witches in outdated Strikers; the battle was long and bloody but eventually the Neuroi fell at the cost of one of its assailants. The remaining Witch introduced herself as a soldier of the People's Liberation Army of Ming, a revolutionary movement that fought for the people and not the Empire's corrupt bureaucracy. The encounter was to have a profound effect on Dongmei's life and she enlisted as soon as she was of age. With the destruction of eastern Ming in 1938, the PLA found itself in control of much of the northwestern remnants of the country. The People's Republic of Ming was declared soon after and fought a running civil war with the Empire over the remains of the country while simultaneously holding back the Neuroi advance from the east. In 1944, after five years of service in the PLA, Zhu De Dongmei had the honour of being assigned to the newly formed 1st Joint Witch Force in Vladivostok, the first PLA Witch to serve in one of the prestigious international formations. With her knowledge of Ming's terrain and experience fighting Neuroi, she was to serve in a reconnaissance role, guiding the foreign Witches across her broken homeland. I'll update over time.[/s] China doesn't exist in the canon, so I've called it the Ming Empire (Koumintang/Imperialist remnants) and the People's Republic of Ming (dem commie basterds) for the moment. I'll edit as appropriate.
