I think that despite him being injured from the previous fight with the Fixer, Ixion still has enough go-go juice to try and knock him unconscious. The only thing that I can see is that the assassin just wants the day to be over without any more confrontations, least of all the guards of the city. I do, funnily enough, see some sort of a response that he would take.
