Yeah, basically. Social status is a grey area- Like if one guy's a king in the magic world, I'm  not sure how it would translate in the future world. So you can go wild wth that. And friendships is something that's all up to you. Personally, I like the idea of having the friendships the same (or at least, between the same people) between the worlds, but hey that's just me.
