Generally, the sarcastic and condescending attitude may be a natural turn-off for most people, but unlike most Hyperion wrench-monkeys, Rhys is actually capable of emotions and has a sympathetic side to him, which more or less, causes him to feel sorry for others and end up in situations that may not be ideal for survival. Not surprisingly, he has a very "dog eat dog world" perspective, that causes him to OCD over being the "top dog" or big boss, which more than less, screws him over a majority of the time. Though on the surface a bit rough, Rhys can be extremely childish or even playful in rare cases which conflicts with his business facade.

"Don't ask about the arm, it's a long story (not canonically revealed yet). But I have the ECHO eye implant which allows me to scan objects. I know, it's pretty neat, right? Right, moving on, you remember that base in the sky I mentioned? My friend Yvette gave me a neat -- I mean, a stun baton as my only weapon (heads-up that Rhys can't hit worth crap and is left-handed, canonically confirmed) and apparently a Loader Bot at my control that . . likes me for some weird reason. No wonder those things are so expensive these days. And like any ideal Hyperion employee, I can obviously hack terminals . . well, okay, that last part is a lie, it's only because of the ECHO eye implant and it usually has to be old Atlas crap, but I can still hack, that counts, right?"
