The highway is a term I'm using for "safe" warp lanes that trade ships use. Areas that are patrolled so that traders can travel in relative safety. The nation I made sits at the cross roads of some of the biggest lanes. 

I just can't imagine a intergalactic community this advanced not having civilian trade routes. (except for those north Korea like nations.)
