As liberal as you wish.  While I would lean away from doing changes that would inhibit other player's potential [b]major[/b] characters (like having Captain America being Iron Man - this prevents someone from doing a Steve Rogers Captain America), you can change backstories, etc as much as you want.

Well...in that case, Technically its Steve as Iron Man so it inhibits anyone being Iron Man. Though so many variables with that one that anyone could still technically be Iron Man. But we get what you are saying, Pete. lolz.
