Name: Janos Korwitz Race: Human Augmentics: Janos is famous among the fleets for his cybernetic augmentations, going far beyond what is required of most officers. He has the usual implants for communicating with the ship's semi-sentience, but in the battle against the barbarian-emperor, he barely survived the destruction of his ship- and now, it's said, he lives only because of his augmentations; more man than machine, they say. Liver, heart, intestines, even the brain- all his major organs are now at least partly synthetic. Rank: Vice-admiral Alias: Grohander, the "Metal Butcher" Physical Description: The Count is a terrifying man in appearance. He has had countless augmentations, and it shows: Both legs and an arm are prosthetic, as well as an eye, and a quarter of his face. He has no hair, and what little of his face that isn't synthetic is scarred from burns. He is also gaunt and bony, as all the "additions" to his body have been traumatic to his metabolism. Personality: The Vice-Admiral is a grim man, known to be without humor, kindness, or mercy. His experience with aliens in his youth, defending his dying homeworld against the hordes of aliens that sought to conquer it, have left him deeply xenophobic, and he now obsesses with placing humans above all other species. Indeed, he is not as much loyal to the king as he is loyal to humanity, as he sees the royalty of Valyrius as the only hope against the alien threat. Personal History: Janos Korwitz was born in the year 3454 to the admirals Erra and Hornef Korwitz, the latest of an illustrious line dating back to the Arcturian Empire, on the imperial fortress-world of Plentiful Dawn. It was a planet in ruins, with the remaining defenders constantly struggling to hold off those raiders who sought to finish it off. He was drafted like all other children into the military, though due to his noble upbringing, he set aside to become an officer. At the age of twenty, after serving some time as the second to another captain, his parents both died in the Battle of the Gates, when what remained of the imperial fleets were betrayed by the mercenaries they had hired during a battle against a pirate coalition, putting the remainders in rout. Due to the ship's longstanding tradition, this made him the new captain of the Ragnarok, but he was in no position to take control of it, as the situation grew worse and worse. The raiders set a siege around Plentiful Dawn, which would last for two years. Janos spent those years the same as the rest of his kin, fighting desperately to remain alive. Food, ammunition and above all hope were becoming scarcer by the day. Much of the leadership had died at the Gates, and those who remained had scattered with the rest of the fleet. Finally, after the two, grueling years of the siege, the Valyrian fleet arrived, with the Ragnarok and the remnants of the fleet in tow, and smashed the pirates. Plentiful Dawn was annexed into the kingdom, and Janos drafted into the royal navy as the new captain of the Ragnarok. The next decades he spent in service to the King, serving with distinction, earning him the rank of Commodore. He fought against slavers, xenos, and, eventually, the fanatics of Arius. The last were a brutal enemy, one which threatened the very existence of the Kingdom. Battle after battle was fought, until finally came the decisive clash, in the Battle of Archangel. It was a close fought battle, as the mad emperor Arius outnumbered the royal forces three to one. His were conscript forces, raised from the worlds under his dominion, and so they fought with little vigor, yet the battle could still have turned either way. The emperor himself fought in a behemoth of a vessel, the much-feared Hurrengask, a ship named after his homeworld on which he had poured the resources of his empire into building. It became clear to the admiralty that if they could destroy it, the rest of his forces would rout, and so they focused their fire on it. It's defenses were indomitable, however, and for a time the battle seemed lost. Janos scrambled the Ragnarok's marines and sent them to board the Hurrengask en masse. The result was a massacre; Sixty-two percent of the force died in the first ten minutes of boarding. Nevertheless, enough damage was done to the ship from the inside to weaken its shields, and the combined firepower of the royal navy tore it apart, killing Arius along with the surviving marines in the process. For his actions in the battle, Count Korwitz was promoted to Vice-Admiral. IC Sample: WIP

Ship Name: Ragnarok Ship Type: The Ragnarok is a Demnevanni HSR3, though perhaps in name only, as its extensive modifications over the centuries have put it in a class of its own. Like other Demnevannis, it is both bulky and unwieldy. In addition, its weapons are not made for destroying spacecraft, sacrificing the raw power of other capital ships' batteries for the precision required for a shell to destroy an underground bunker. It has also been outfitted with seven extra fission reactors, which by themselves produce enough energy to power a large city. This adds an enormous strength to the Ragnarok's shields that, when added to the many layers of reinforced hull, make it rather difficult to damage. Finally, the Ragnarok has about a quarter the amount of fighters carried by other Demnevannis, having instead hundreds of Elephants, transport shuttles that are nevertheless armored and armed to the point that they can almost be considered fighters in their own right, and which can lock onto enemy ships and breach their hulls, enabling the marines within to storm them and seize the ships from within. Semi-Sentience Profile: Atlas is what the Leviathan's semi-sentience is called, and it is as old as the ship itself, dating back to the old Empire. Indeed, it still believed itself to be part of the Imperial Fleet, and stubbornly insists on calling the King "Emperor". It places great importance on tradition, and refuses to accept as captain any other than the rightful descendent and heir of its legendary captain of old, Harn Korwitz. It is as conservative in combat as out of it, preferring to take safe options rather than risky ones. Nevertheless, its wisdom is greatly respected by the crewmembers, as it has had over a millenium to gather combat data. Role: Some wars can be won in space, but most are not over until the enemy planets and outposts are captured. Unfortunately, this often entails attacking heavily fortified positions. It is in this that the Ragnarok finds its niche: It specializes in cracking open planetary fortresses. Its 10 000 marines are trained to storm hell itself, and its guns have the precision and punch required to implode bunkers up to a kilometre underground. The Ragnarok also possesses a large stock of unconventional weapons, biological, chemical, and nuclear. In short, it is the King's hammer, that smashes the petty castles of his enemies. Ship History: The Ragnarok's history dates back to the old Arcturian Empire, when it was constructed among the thousands of others of its kind, during the great drive to expand across the entire galaxy. While today the Ragnarok is among the largest vessels seen in space, certainly one of the largest HSR3s, at that epoch it was dwarfed by the behemoths that flew beside it, in the golden age of the Empire. After the battle of Milas, in which the Rival Claimants smashed the last emperor's forces and which lead to the sack of Almata, the Ragnarok was in the same situation as what was left of the Imperial fleets, isolated and without a clear purpose. Her captain elected to retreat to Plentiful Dawn, at the time only a remote colony. There, the Ragnarok found others of the fleets, and joined them in defending the last bastion of Imperial power. For a thousand years, the ship fought, against every kind of enemy imaginable. In this time, tradition came to be that the vessel would pass from father to son in a hereditary fashion. When the Valyrian fleet arrived, scattering the raiders who were threatening the very survival of Plentiful Dawn, the fortress-world was annexed into the growing kingdom, and the Ragnarok, along with its captain, Count Janos, were assimilated into the royal armadda.

The Tartarus Type: Gothren-Class HSR2 Role: Supporting the Ragnarok in bombarding planetary positions Details: The Tartarus is a an old vessel, though not as old as the Ragnarok. Built in the dying days of the Empire, it was wrecked in one of the many battles of the epoch, fighting a rival faction of the Imperial Navy. It was recovered centuries later by the emerging Kingdom of Valyrius, which repaired it as best they could. The ship's AI, Hades, was beyond their understanding, however, and they were unable to fix it completely. Because of this, Hades is now known for its occasional logic errors and miscalculations, though the engineers aboard have installed failsafes so that the ship is still functional. It is currently commanded by Captain Bartrand, a fat lickspittle with little respect among his peers, and less among his crew. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Chlorine Type: Mirage HSR1 Role: Scouting for enemy vessels Details: The Chlorine- the name being an joke among its engineers that was never divulged to the admirality- is a Mirage, a relatively new ship model designed by the Kingdom, as opposed to being scavenged from Arcturian tech. Its offensive capabilities are meager for a capital ship, and its durability leaves much to be desired, but these weaknesses enable its true strength: Its speed. The Chlorine, like other mirages, is, aside from a few exceptions, one of the most maneuverable capital ships available to Royal forces. Its small size makes it easy for it to dodge incoming fire, at least compared to its larger cousins. The main purpose of Mirages, however, is to patrol, to scout, and to raid behind enemy line, destroying unprotected convoys and generally harassing the foe. The ship's AI is also named Chlorine, and it is generally lacking in personality beyond its functions, having been designed with the lesser Valyrian technology. This causes no end of annoyance to Captain Gregory, a man who insists on finding everything in life humorous. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Gdansk Type: Bulow-Nvell HSR1 Role: Destroying small strikecraft, including fighters, bombers, and fighter-bombers. Details: Like the Mirage class, Bulow-Nvells are a recent addition to the fleet, created from scratch by Valyrian scientists. They are heavily armored, and covered in flak turrets that fire in wide blasts, devastating enemy strikecraft at close range. This loadout is heavy, however, and costs in speed what is gained in defensive capabilities. The Gdansk was attached to the Ragnarok after the battle of Archangel, and Count Korwitz's subsequent promotion to Vice-Admiral. It is one of the newest capital ships built yet, under a year old. Due to its young age, it has not currently had an AI installed, and all the functions a semi-sentience serve are currently filled with an overstaffed crew. Its current captain is Urwell Podesi, a man of low birth who ascended to his rank through valiant service and bravery in battle. He is honest and kind, though perhaps too much so, given his superior.
