Arguably USSR doesn't necessarily have to refer to Russia because as far as its meaning goes it makes no mention of Russia. "Soviet" comes into Russian political terminology to often prefer to districts, sort of like state or provinces. It's like referring to the United State of America as the United States, it's actually not at all specific to a nation since it's describing more of a political state than a national identity. These terms only get that way when brought into the context of a world, in particular our own; where they have more meaning. So the only cause of complaint may be the usage of Marxist-Leninist since arguably those are "our world" terms and not fantasy world terminology.

One might also argue on this vein "Spice Islands" is just as realistic as there are regions of our world that are - or were - referred to as the Spice Islands, predominately Indonesia and that archipelago there was known as the Spice Islands for quite some time.
