The mask's wearer becomes more than a mechanical genius.  In addition to understanding technology right down to the molecular level, the wearer is also able to alter its nature at will.  Willful alterations are small, and any large changes to a piece of technology will need to be made physically, but the wearer's will can create otherwise impossible technologies.  Such changes only remain in effect as long as the mask is worn.
