My claims: My WIP (I'll fill this out when I have more time):

The Principality of Jadis
Major cities: Population: Around 1,5 million Government: Jadis is a merchant republic, ruled by an oligarchy of the five great guilds: The Ruby, Gold, Saphire, Emerald, and Amethyst cartels. Officially, the republic is lead by the Prince, though in practice it is a purely ceremonial role, with all the important decisions being taken by the cartels. Still, the house to which belongs the prince is generally seen as the dominant one in the flux of Jadisii politics, and as such upon the death of a prince there is always a great deal of behind-the-scenes bloodshed between the cartels. Exports: The republic was founded in the epicenter of the infertile badlands that cover the northern coast of Threkiton as a mining center to harvest the region's rich mineral reserves, and it has surpassed all expectations tenfold. It would be no exaggeration to say that at least half of the precious gemstones circulating across the world came from one of the great Jadisii mines. Imports: The Principality of Jadis is not self-sufficient. Though some coastal areas are fertile, the vast expanse of its lands are barren, making agriculture impossible. The city of Jadis itself is home to over a quarter a million souls, overwhelming completely what little local production there is. Thus, vast quantities of food must be imported to the city, as well as timber, iron, copper, and most all products derived from animals. Allied kingdoms: None as of yet. Enemy kingdoms: *The Omnid Empire National Color: Bright yellow History: Religion/Customs: Military: Tech: Strengths: Opulence: Jadis is one of the greatest cities of the world, being among the most populated, and certainly the wealthiest. Jadis almost monopolizes the gemstone trade, and its wealth means the principality can buy just about anything that is for sale. Born to Sail: Though the fortunes of Jadis are extracted from the land, its merchant fleet carries the duty of trading its bounty throughout the world. The only thing that the Jadisii cartels hate more than each other are pirates, and so the Principality's fleets are vast and equiped with the finest equipment money can buy. Desert Survival: The lands controlled by the cartels are some of the driest in the world. As such, the people of Jadis have had to learn to survive even in the most barren and desolate of environments. Weaknesses: Make Money, Not War: The primary concern of the Prince, the Cartels, and the people of the Republic is the making of profit, not the waging of war. The distaste for martial pursuits has forced the Principality to rely on foreign mercenaries to guard its borders, sellswords whose loyalty is often only ensured with obscene amounts of gold. We Must Build More Farms: Jadis faces a constant struggle against hunger, its large population making even a short siege unthinkable. Starvation would strike should food shipments be disrupted. Though the Shah is in theory an absolute monarch, in practice the empire is very decentralized, with the outlying provinces being administered by allied tribes, free cities, and quasi-independent kings. Exports: Imports: Allied kingdoms: Enemy kingdoms: The Omnids have in the past centuries developed an intense rivalry with the cartels that rule the neighboring principality of Jadis, mostly over control of the resource-rich badlands between them. National Color: Brown History: Religion/Customs: Military: Tech: Strengths: Oh, Glorious Empire: The Omnid Empire has dominated Threkiton for over four hundred years, since the dying days of the old Empire. Its age and accomplishments have made it very prestigious, with the Shah being recognized as one of the most powerful men in the world. The Omnids are as much part of the land as the mountains or the oceans now. When the ambassadors of the Shah arrive at foreign courts, their words carry the weight of this long and colorful history. We are Legion: Vast in extent and vast in populace is the Empire. When the Shah rides to war, he brings the full might of the Empire behind him, conscripting hundreds of thousands of soldiers to carry his banner. Though his soldiers might not be as well motivated as others, by sheer numbers his hosts keep the Empire safe. Weaknesses: Technologically Stagnant: They say innovation is the domain of young nations, and that old civilizations are doomed to stagnate and decline, stuck to tradition. Whether this is always true is debatable, but it is certainly the case for the Omnid Empire, which has not been adjusting well to the flux of history. As other nations begin to use more advanced and deadly weaponry, the Shahs insist stubbornly that only the true way to conduct war is with chariot and spear. Overextension Hurts: The Empire has by now passed its peak, during the golden age of Shah Agrien II 50 years ago. Its priorities have shifted from conquest to defense, struggling to defend its expansive borders against the ravenous neighbors that smell the scent of decay. The nobility have descended into infighting and petty feuds, and can no longer be relied upon when crisis hits; And the people care little for the Empire, with resentment over taxes and the overbearing laws of the Shah straining their loyalty to the crown.
