I do understand what you're saying. You mean that because your character is from the past he traveled to the current time which is 2015.
But being from the past wouldn't be a good idea because of the fact that travelers can only travel to a time period once, so this would be the only time we'd see your character. Once he goes back our characters won't be able to talk to yours. 
Plus, you can't travel to the future, so I'd say it would be a good idea to make a character around the current time period.
