Abraxas would be in his metamorphosis stage for the entire duration Keepa had been about, waking up during the aftermath. The second the lights went out over Keepa's containment...well, it'd get messy and he wouldn't stick around after words. :T

Hmm...I assume dragons are also kept at the prison? Perhaps he shmoozed his way into temporary residence with one that escaped?
