There could be more waiting outside the back entrance - Kuro even said as much - but the Guild Plaza is likely going to abuzz with Guildmembers this time of the day. Inquisitors clumped up by the Pub entrance would likely draw undue attention.

I suppose he could still try and run out. I had assumed somebody would come to Ryza's aid before he had a chance. It does seem strange that he would be so confident walking in only to then bravely turn around and run in the opposite direction. Something tells me he has something up his sleeve that will allow him to keep fighting.
